The Guards of a Few

The Senate Building
Office of Prime Minister Lasedri

After having delved deep into the files of the old Captain of the Guards, there was one more important thing Dagos, as the new Senate Guard, had to do. As the whole unit was responsible of the safety of the Senate, he just had to have a meeting with the one in top of the political branch of the Galactic Republic -- the Prime Minister herself.

He'd been waiting for this meeting for a while now. And even though he was a little bit scared of how the meeting would go, he was feeling optimistic. He'd seen the woman in work and there was no way she could be that frightening. He had to be confident and trustworthy, then their cooperation would most likely work out well.

The man took a seat in a room before the actual office of the Prime Minister. A secretary told him to wait a little and so he did. During that free time, he was able to take one more glance at the documents and plans he'd made about the future of the Senate Guard. Whether he would present them to Lasedri today or not didn't quite matter. He had to be ready for everything.

He remembered the anxiety he'd had when he'd been invited to a meeting with the previous Captain of the Guard years ago. He'd basically just joined the Senate Guard and everything was so new to him. Meeting an important person of the Military so soon was a troubling fact for him and he just couldn't keep himself contained.

At that moment, he felt pretty much the same way, even though now he had a lot more experience and knowledge of things. At least he would be useful this time.

"Just a little bit more and then the Prime Minister will be able to meet you," the secretary said. She didn't even look at the man as he said that -- she seemed to be having a rough day.

Considering the recent militant affair in the halls of the Senate itself, it only made sense to buff the ranks of the Senate Guard a little more with more numerous and savvier types. That was not to say that those who had been loyally serving the Ministers and Senators all this time were not loyal and competent at their jobs. It simply was a response to the violent action that had given the Republic a heart attack on its interior. It was no time to play things safe. The game had almost cost the Republic dearly. The effect on morale was significantly felt by many across the stars, and once again the Galactic Republic felt even less stable. But those who could claim greatness were the ones who soldiered on through trials and despair.

Thankfully the Prime Minister would not be without some healthy reassurance, though. The new Captain [member="Dagos Nasscar"] had been initiated to replace the incapacitated previous leader of the esteemed bodyguards. As trivial as it may seem, it paid to get acquainted with the one who was in charge of keeping you alive in dangerous situations. It only seemed the smart--and polite--course of action to have a meeting with the new Captain.

By the time Captain Nasscar's appointed time came about, however, a full workday had already transpired, and all sorts of business involving the recovery of stability and pride had worn out the Minister and--more obviously--her secretary. So the irritable tone in the woman's voice was not surprising when she alerted Lasedri of her visitor. At least it was the last call for the day. Reluctantly, Geneviève set down her glass of red wine and strode from behind her desk and to the door of her office. "Comrade," she greeted, motioning for the guard to be invited in. "It's unusual to see one of you without the intimidating garbs."

"Prime Minister Lasedri..." Dagos said as the woman came out of her office. For a moment, he stood where he was, on alert, but soon after that, he entered the room. It was both an amazing and a terrifying thing to be in such an important person's office. He'd always wondered what it looked like -- now he was able to see it himself.

"I suppose there was no real reason to wear the blue uniform for a meeting like that. But if it makes you feel more secure if I did that, I understand," he answered the woman's comment about how he was not in the outfit he'd been wearing every day before being appointed to the position of a Captain. It felt amazing to wear something completely different for once, especially since most people in the Senate didn't even know what he looked like beneath all the layers of blue.

The man lacked the military manners which were typically associated with those in high positions -- one could tell it by the way the man talked. His speech was free, he didn't choose his words as carefully as he should have. He did, however, know that the Prime Minister was connected to the army somehow, but he had no idea how. She wasn't the Supreme Commander, that was for sure.

"I can tell it has been an exhausting day for both you and your whole office, so I guess I ain't going to present you the estimated budgets and complex documents?"

Her office was not as lavish as it had been on Anaxes or Onderon. The second transport of the capitol to Chazwa within her political career had been justified for its strategic position--but more so for its financial frugality with regards to what concerned the senators directly. The converted warehouses hardly were recognizable in comparison to the former industrial state, but, even still, there was a definite feeling as if some normal expenses had been spared in decoration. The Prime Minister's office was not shabby, but neither was it much beyond practical.

"Oh, no," Lasedri insisted as she retreated to her seat behind her desk, gesturing towards the guest chair opposite her side for the captain to take. "Contrarily. I like knowing exactly who is protecting me."

Before tenting her hands with symbol of patience, Geneviève offered the Captain of the Guard an empty glass and a half-full bottle of wine. It was her liquid of choice, much to Minister Organa's dismay. "Chandrilan red. Help yourself if you will." Lasedri was not exactly known for being a hostess, but she afforded respect to most callers who had any business being in the capitol at all, moreover her very office of command. "Feel free to list whatever details you can with confirmation. A little wine does some good." She cast a brief glance at her own glass and smirked.
