OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Intent: A highly advanced holoprojector for HoloNet communications.
Canon Link: N/A
Restricted Missions: N/A
Primary Source: Based on canon and Chaos-built hard-light holograms. (Many examples available.)
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Manufacturer: Silk Holdings - http://starwarsrp.net/topic/7735-silk-holdings/
Model: Gossamer Holoterminal
Affiliation: Closed market (ask first)
Modularity: Can be modified for greater detail, variable hard-light texture, etc. Compatible with mechno-chairs, training rooms, and other holographic technology.
Production: Limited
Material: Electronics
SPECIAL FEATURES
True-color hard-light hologram projector
Zero-lag holocomm connection
Strengths:
Allows you, as a remote holographic projection, to physically interact with others or the environment. Your image looks slightly off, but otherwise it's as if you're in the room so far as others are concerned.
Weaknesses:
Conveys only limited sensory data to the user (generally auditory and, based on extrapolation programming, tactile). Not a VR experience.
Relies on a clear HoloNet communication link. For example, it won't work in Wild Space or the Unknown Regions unless you've got an excellent relay, just like any other holocomm transmission.
DESCRIPTION
You step into your communications room and kneel to the image of your Master, who's ten thousand parsecs away. You've installed a Gossamer; he hasn't. He slaps you for your failure.
You make a holocall to your parents, who've just installed a Gossamer. You reach out to give them a hug, and they can feel it.
You and your favorite sparring partner both bought Gossamers. You’re in the Outer Rim and he's in the Core. You have a nice fight.
You’ve sent your husband somewhere safe while you charge off to fight the Empire. You both have Gossamer holoprojectors. You kiss him goodbye from half a galaxy away.
