ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:
  • Defensive: The station is built around keeping its inhabitants safe and happy. It takes a lot to bring it down.
  • Self-Sufficient: The hydroponics operations, along with water retention and cleaning facilities, makes the station relatively capable of handling itself without outside needs. Add in the Isotope-5 reactor and it can keep itself going longer than anyone can project.
Weaknesses:
  • Weaponless: It's a civilian station, but even civilian stations can be targeted. Despite itself staunch defense, it possesses no capability to fight back if targeted by hostiles.
  • Slow and Steady: While it can make a hyperspace jump if really necessary, it'll take it much longer than most any other ship to get anywhere. And when it gets there it isn't moving anywhere else. The stations possesses no sublight engines to move around.
Description:

The Galaxy Tree was created to be the pinnacle of the Republic's new outreach program. A large space station that is settled in deep space and is completely self-reliant, the station serves both as a diplomatic resource and a humanitarian one. While the member worlds of the Republic are fully capable of taking in refugees from across the galaxy, there are many who do not want to be placed in the position of being on a world that could be readily attacked because its galactic position is well known. Additionally, there are others who just feel that being thrust into worlds society will cause them a great amount of stress. Life on a civilian space station alleviates a lot of that as the society is one of neutrality and openness.

The station itself is run as a part of the Republic's outreach network. Individuals granted the right to live on the station are usually refugees or a part of the diplomatic arm of the Republic government. A wide array of societies are represented on the station and its administration works constantly to keep social issues to a minimum by providing everyone with what they need and encouraging open discourse rather than hostile debate. To boost morale, numerous opportunity for entertainment are offered, and there's even a living park within.

Even though the station is heavily protected by its shield system, it operates with some of the more powerful sensors and communications systems in case it does come under attack from outside sources. It is fully capable of calling for help and withstanding a bombardment from most forces until that help arrives. The ultimate goal of the station is to keep its inhabitants alive while providing a venue for diplomatic and other outreach by the Republic. It operates within deep space inside of the Republic sector and was originally constructed in orbit around the planet Nadiem before being ushered off to its new location, where it will remain unless forced to move as a last resort.
