Strengths:
  • Massive: The Foundry is one of the largest shipyards in the galaxy. It was built over the course of several years to match the size of other commercial Driveyards in the galaxy, such as KDY, CEC, and Fondor Shipyards. The massive sprawling stretch of metal that is The Foundry holds enough room for several hundred thousand workers and their families, a commercial sector, residential, and of course several dozen sectors dedicated purely to the production of starships and other manufacturing projects. Quite simply put, the Foundry is a hugely expansive space station designed to do one thing and one thing alone, replace the old guards of production.
  • Self-Sustaining: Due it's location, it was decided early on that The Foundry needed to be in a way, self-sustaining. Though a huge amount of commercial and luxury goods flow into The Foundry, the station is in fact capable of sustaining itself. In order to accomplish this a a large section of the station is dedicated to the creation of agricultural projects. Large swaths of the station are in fact a series of massive greenhouses. These greenhouses produce unspeakable tons of food through advanced hydroponic methods governed by the Agricultural Csar(an Ithorian named Billy, he's a good guy). This allows the station to sustain itself if necessary, though of course the gardens are supplemented by the aforementioned Luxury and Commercial goods.
  • Armored: Though The Foundry has no native self defense emplacements such as Turbo-laser Turrets or even point defense emplacements, the driveyards are in fact heavily armored. Though this was mostly a precautionary method against heavy deep space radiation rather then attack by foreign powers, the Armor that lines the walls of The Foundry could very well sustain severe pummeling before being destroyed, though of course it would not survive long if singled out.
Weaknesses:
  • No Self-Defense: As mentioned above, The Foundry has no method of Native Self-Defense. Though the discussion was originally had, it was ultimately decided by Nel and Vanir Technologies that the placement of such weapons would provide a huge cost increase as well as a safety issue. In order to create such weapon emplacements, or even add shields to the station a massive cost and power increase would have been necessary. These two factors ultimately lead to The Foundry being placed into it's current state. It should be noted however that the entirety of Vanir Technologies, as well as Saeva's Corporate Fleets maintain the Defense of The Foundry.
  • Isolated: Though this could also be argued as a plus, The Foundries isolation is largely a problem. Though the Station is self-sustaining and in it of itself a large city, the fact is that it still has a huge draw on raw goods. These raw goods range from Commercial to Residential. Delivering and supplying the station with these goods is a massive cost increase, only supplement by Vanir Technologies Seedships. Th
  • Weak Points: The Foundry is in essence, a giant Space Station. Like all stations it has certain weak points. These weakpoints are mostly thermal exhaust ports located throughout the driveyard. These vents allow the Foundries numerous reactors to cool and remain stable throughout their constant use and power draw. There are Sixteen of these vents throughout the station, and if any one of them were to be compromised with say...a coincidentally accurate proton torpedo, it would lead to a catastrophic explosion destroying a large section of the station.
Description:
The Galaxy has many shipyards. Kuat Drive Yards, Corellian Engineering Corporation, The massive docks at Fondor, and even the spacious sations at Bilbringi. There are many hundreds of shipyards throughout the galaxy. Most of them are famed, most of them have brought massive fortunes to those who own then, and nearly all of them are tied to a single planet, government, or people. These ties mean they can only serve certain organizations, people, or places. They are limited in whom they can do business with depending on their location or current controlling government.

This is the single largest, and greatest threat to independent Corporate production. Businesses such as KDY suffer under the yolk of controlling Governments such as the One Sith, other companies feel the stinging bite of conflicts that are not their own, such as the sprawling Verpine Mechanics on Roche who were caught between the evil Grand Republic and the Terrorizing Mandalorians.

Year after year, decade after decade, it is not the governments that suffer, but the Corporations that hold them up. Wars, damage to infrastructure, and the suppression of new ideas run rampant throughout the Galaxy, with governments attempting to control and hold back anyone and anything as long it suits them.

The Foundry was designed to fight this.

Envisioned as not only a shipyard, but an independent Production center capable of matching such great Factories as Kuat Drive Yards and Fondor. Created within the deep mists of the Outer Rim below the x axis of the galaxy itself The Foundry is placed in an isolated position precisely out of the way of any Government, Coalition, Organization or even political party. It is for all intense and purposes, the galaxies most independent Shipyard, with the only entity holding sway over it being the Sovereign Corporation Vanir Technologies.

How is this different then say, KDY? Simple.

Vanir Technologies only driving goal is profit.

They have no other agenda save for the garnering of moral and legally acquired profit, as such, those Corporations that choose to take up residency upon The Foundry will find no overarching laws, no unfairness, and they will most certainly not find interference from what Vanir deems is best. The Foundry was created as a way for Companies to produce what they wanted, how they wanted, and sell it to whomever they please. The only restrictions are of course, basic organic rights and basic acts of fair-play between corporate entities(If you're caught doing corporate Espionage, you're out).

The Foundry is capable of providing a massive amount of space two dozens of different corporations doing a dozen different things. There is space enough for several capital ship manufacturers, half a dozen pharmaceutical companies, and pretty much any other kind of business that one could imagine. At it's very core The Foundry is not in fact a fully fleshed out space station with already functioning factories inside, instead it is a mass of open and adjustable space that Companies can tailor to their own needs. The size of the Foundry, allows it to rent out much of its space to pretty much any sort of entity. Even it's shipyards could in theory be converted to massive open ended factories producing cakes, if one had enough money of course.

This open ended manufacturing space is really the core of The Foundry, though is not the whole of it.

In a matter of fact of it's existence The Foundry is also a massively sprawling civilian space station. There are Commercial sections, residential sections, and even entertainment sections. This is what allows the Foundry to function so well, and what allows it to be independent. It is in a way a wholly organized and completely put together City functioning on it's own. These different sectors allow hundreds of thousands of workers to stay and occupy The Foundry, actually allowing the station to work.

Since The Foundry is perhaps one of the largest construction projects ever undertaken many considerations were made throughout it's production. These considerations were mostly about cutting costs, ensuring safety, maintaining viability, and creating an environment that companies would actually want to take a part in.

Part of these considerations were the lack of defenses placed upon The Foundry. Though this is actually a quite common thing with large space stations such as Kuat Drive Yards or Bilbringi, it is notable on The Foundry because of its position in isolation. Kuat Drive Yards for instance does not need armaments due to it's sizeable Planetary Defense Stations. The Foundry however is located in Isolation, meaning there are no defense stations. To counteract this however the station is indeed thickly armored giving it some sustainability if it were to ever come under assault. Aside from this however the station is protected by Vanir Technologies, and Saeva Incorporated's sizable Corporate Fleets. As well as whatever other defenses other Corporations wish to supply to their own assets located on board The Foundry.

Eventually most of The Foundry was created in such a way to be appealing to several corporate Entities, and indeed many companies have already signed up for use of the space including Aurora Industries, Hedgemonic Automaton, GEAR, and several other corporations. Such entities found the prospect of The Foundry enticing, and thus signed up under early trade deals to reserve space when The Foundry was finally completed.

Now that the Station has finally been completed, those Corporations who took on early investments are allowed to fully extend their arms through the space they leased.

Though it is unique in it's location and composition, it should be noted that The Foundry is not entirely outstanding when it comes to Shipyards. Though the station is quite large, it is not the biggest nor is it the most efficient Driveyard in the galaxy. Though perhaps in the future it can meet both of these standards, for now The Foundry is still a new entity, and at it's initial opening it is at best an equal to Kuat Drive Yards and other similarly sized Shipyards.

Intent: To sub the Galaxies largest independent Shipyards.

Alric Kuhn To answer your question, I'd honestly put in the same amount of work for a Flagship. So roughly 300-400 posts. Since you're trying to rival and have something "bigger" than what's offered to you through canon. Its a really good question I thank you for bringing it up. Question 1: Yes Question 2: Series of threads adding up to 300-400 posts; or you can do a single thread with 300-400 posts.

*From what I am able to gather this is just about the size of KDY
