The First Jedi Arts

Location: Fondor, Aboard the Gypsy Caravan

Vassara had returned to her ship and now felt at ease. As she enterd the hangar bay she stripped off her coat, revealing a dirty white tank top, and tossed it aside.

From her pocket she dug out the Datacron the other Jedi woman had passed onto her. Her first lesson was the Jedi code, and though she was familiar with it, she was not familiar with its intricacies.

Still it was worth a study, especially as she had time to spare.

Sitting cross legged on a cargo crate she closed her eyes, trying to open up her senses. She was calling back the feeling she had so long denied. The hidden part of her soul she did not often uncage.

On Dantooine she had seen the grass, no even felt it.

As she let go centering herself the datacron glowed a warm blue and began to buzz in her hand. Vassara felt the familiar current of the force run through her, revitalizing her tired limbs and raising her awareness.

She could feel the burning of scripture in her minds eye. It floated past her, blazing a faint blue image in her mind.

There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the Force.

Interesting as it was she winced at the words. They were all wrong. For a woman like her, a spacer, emotion was a driving factor. Passion was an enabler, and chaos was her escape route.....

As there were two critical flaws within herself Vassara had immediately noticed she decided to spend her time wokring through them.

The first, emotion. She had lots of baggage. Watching your world burn right before your eyes to the scourge of the Sith was something that bred hatred. A deep seated hatred. As much as the young woman wanted to let it go, she had a difficult time...

As far as Chaos? Chaos followed her everywhere. Throughout her travels it had been one big boiling plot of chaotic duels and brutal killings. she had sent plenty of unlucky souls into the void. No the force, as she now must consider it.

"Ahh who am I kidding."

The trance broke as she spoke and Vassara frowned.

She closed her eyes again, plunging back into the white current... again the datacron buzzed a warm harmonious melody across her mind.

Maybe if she could focus on that feeling, the way the melody put her at ease.

After several moments she let it sink in. Slowly the walls were breaking down inside her. The memory of the Sith seemed less important now, but it was still there...

Let it go.

Flashing flickering fire, the swing of crimson blades. The look on the citizens faces as their world burned, and their lives were snuffed out.

Let it go.....

These washed away suddenly, as she learned her first true lesson in the force. The art of how to let things go....

"Karen. Call for ya darlin'."

"Coming!"

Back on her ship now, Karen dried her hair with a towel and wandered into the conference room. It looks like [member="Vassara Raxis"] had finally decided to call. Fascinating. She stood on the holopad and pushed the button,

"Hello hello. How goes the knowledge hunting? Figured you might get some use out of that old datacron."

She smirked and threw the towel over her shoulder. This should be interesting.

Vassara brought the commlink closer to her face, speaking slowly.

"I have an issue here. My connection to the force is tarnished by emotion and chaos. These are not a part of the code. As you don't know anything much about me you couldn't fully understand. I do know that letting the memory of my world burn under the boots of the Sith is hard to let go of."

Vassara paused now, choosing her next words.

"Can you teach me to meditate more clearly? To expand my connection and and overcome these?"

[member="Vassara Raxis"] went straight to business. No hello, no how are you. It was rather off putting for a phone call but Karen already could feel that Vassara was truly troubled by her meditations. That was a good sign. It meant she was learning.

"I would be happy to assist you Vassara. Though, how well you apply the teachings and how fast you learn is up to you."

She smiled and stood up taller,

"Before we being however. Do you mind if I ask you what you learned about the Jedi Code? ...Do you feel any differently about the Jedi culture since you've begun reading about it?"

Vassara nodded, though Karen couldn't see it.

"The code is in keeping with many of my own values. The only thing I have an issue with is the use of violence. It is permitted when negotiations have failed?"

Being an outlaw and running among the underground network of smugglers, pirates and theives often netted her with conflict. More often than not Vassara struck the first blow before it could escalate. Something she would have to work on with her self.

"Also I don't want to be a pawn to some Jedi order. Do any Jedi fly solo?"

Ah. A woman who seeks only to accept the truths that are convenient to her own lifestyle. Disappointing, but necessary in many lines of work. Karen understand that moral mindset well. She herself had felt that way many times. Perhaps [member="Vassara Raxis"] would overcome that hesitation in time.

"Vassara. The Force is your connection to the universe. The deeper you walk into it's currents, the closer you will begin to feel towards all sentient life. The more, interconnected you will begin to understand we all are. Nit together. Like a big family unit. Now and in eternity."

She held up a hand a waved the comment away. Now was not the time for such,

"But for right now. Please understand that violence, death, and even being a humble servant? Are all part of nature. They all have their harmonies. There is a place and a time for violence. Just as there is a place and a time for death. And yes... There is even a time and a place to be a servant. Just like you will learn to obey the will of the Force."

Karen smiled. Vassara already knew many of these times and places.

"Violence comes when all other options have been exhausted. Much like a language, we Jedi speak it well. It is natural that all Jedi be masters of violence. However, we are masters so that we might show charity, patience, and kindness; even during times of terrible conflict. We are the lords of war. ...Not that we might kill? But that we might overcome it."

She shrugged. That was a warrior's lesson. It took many years and many deaths to understand.

"To be in harmony with violence is to never use it without also showing compassion towards your opponent. To never kill when it is not necessary and to never maim when a gentle current will suffice. ...You are a lord of war now [member="Vassara Raxis"]. I pray that you will be wise with your powerful talents. And I hope that you will never kill without first seeking out every other option. Remember. The Jedi do not govern war that we might destroy. No. We preside that we might teach and preserve instead."

Karen paused. That was enough about combat for today. She could move on.

"We will touch upon how be a humble servant later. For now? Let me return to your early question. Meditation."

She touched a finger to lips and continued,

"The Force exists without our influence Vassara. It is always strong. ...We however. Are weak. If we are to touch the Force and feel it strongly? We must first find the harmony within ourselves. We must be at peace."

"I cannot teach you to overcome your emotions or your hatreds. This, you must seek out for yourself. But perhaps I can help you see a new perspective about your demons. Perhaps I can help you overcome the fear that you keep only for yourself."

Karen shrugged. This was a natural part of living. Learning to deal with life and what happens next.

"You need not hate the Sith, Vassara. Pity them. They are the lost sheep of our powerful family. They are those who were given a powerful gift and chose to betray it. The Sith seek to be free of their morality by destorying others and causing chaos. ...But that will always fail. Because it is not through the Darkside that they are made free. It is through the Darkside that they become slaves to their passions and tormented by their sins."

"Any man killed by the Sith is received into the Force. Loved by it. Comforted by it. Preserved for a greater time and a greater life, by it. Though whole worlds burn? The Force is not troubled. Nature is not swayed. And your loved ones are healed in the afterlife. ...The only person a Sith can truly harm, is themselves. And their damnation is for an eternity."

"So Vassara. The next time you meditate within the Force. Listen to it's comforting voice of healing. Let these truths heal your soul. Everyone you love is in the heavens now. Peaceful, happy, and very much taking pity upon the poor lost souls that ended their lives so shortly. Your family has an eternal bond within the Force. The Sith are the ones who will truly suffer. In this life and the next. ...The Force is not troubled. The Force remains holy, no matter what."

She nodded her head and concluded.

"The next time you pray Vassara. Know that all your loved ones are safe. And they wish you all the peace in the world."

[member="Karen Roberts"]

Karens rhetoric was maddening to the young woman. She wanted to hunt, to kill the Sith for their crimes. But the more she considered it perhaps they were the slaves and the Jedi were free? After all she had heard the darkside corrupted their bodies over time, doing terrible damage to them.

This time she centred her self on the crate, cross legged and closed her eyes. The Datacron buzzed again as she relaxed, letting it connect easily with her. The force flowed quicker this time, more than a trickle, but less than a river.

She could feel strength in her limbs, but not of vengeance. The steadfast power of the light incepted itself into her very soul, proliferating through her.

Vassara recalled the memories of Alderaan, and Karens advice. As they came crashing back she centered herself in the storm, remaining impartial as best she could.

"There is chaos, only Harmony." She breathed.

The pain finally ebbed. Slowly it faded bit by bit. She replayed the scene there for several hours. Each passing minute the force flowed through her she felt the pain less and less. She felt the transfomations of the fallen as they were added to the force, absorbed by the energies of the divine current.

She grew tired now though and opened her eyes, breaking the connection.

"I'm hungry as hell." She said to herself, getting up and stretching.

A couple minutes later she found herself in the galley, scaring down some random meat jerky. Her face wrinkled in disgust at the taste.

"What the osik is this?"

She chewed it down, washing its rancid taste away with a shot of whiskey. She was too tired to reach her bed, so instead she climbed up on the counter, sprawling out and drifting into a deep sleep....

Oh. Vassara hung up without so much as a reply. Strange. Must be a bad connection. Karen shrugged and threw her towel onto the back rest of one of her chairs.

"Well. Maybe she'll call again? Who knows."

She shrugged and went back to the gym room. What a strange conversation.

[member="Karen Roberts"]

It was late the next morning when Vassara awoke in the galley. The booze had gotten to her and her head was pounding hard. As she awoke Silas was standing over her laughing.

"Stim caf?"

Vassara snatched the cup from his hands like a rabid dog seeking meat. She slurped it down, ignoring the pain of the red hot liquid. Silas raised an eyebrow.

"All's good then?"

Vassara nodded, lost for word. Last night she had connected more fully to the force than ever before, and now she intended to capitalize ont that connection. When Silas left she returned to the hangar. But this time not for meditation. The Commlink of Karens rang again as Vassara fired up her old speeder...

Karen was in the garage when Grant threw her the phone. He winked and mentioned Vassara's number. Oh? Guess she was alive after all.

"Hello hello. Good of you to call back. What's up?"

Roberts pressed the phone against her shoulder and kept tinkering on the workbench.

[member="Karen Roberts"]

"I did a little more meditating using what you told me and some research of my own. Can you teach me some practical applications of the force? Or how to handle a lightsaber?"

Vassara being a total novice had no idea how these iconic sabers and powers worked. But she knew she wanted them, and not for ill intentions. Despite her ongoing battle to let go of the Sith insult to her world, she was eager to immerse herself in the Jedi world.

While she awaited her answer she swung one leg over her speeder, mounting it.

Karen tinkered away,

"Sure. Got time for lunch somewhere this week? I'll drop by and update your Datacron with new lessons. That way you can practice by yourself while I'm away and call me when you need help. How does that sound?"

She smiled and had to admit. Roberts didn't think [member="Vassara Raxis"] was really going to go-in for the whole Jedi thing. It was great to see her really taking this opportunity seriously. Maybe it was time to make a full-time student after all.

[member="Karen Roberts"]

Vassara nodded again.

"Yeah I have time. I was hoping to come by now. But you seem to be busy, so I'll leave it to you."

She waited for her reply, meanwhile the speeder was running full power now and Vassara was itching to go out for a ride. Whether she visited Karen or simply rode the streets it didn't matter. Any speeder ride could have a profound effect of clearing ones mind.

~Still Surfin
That was do-able,

"Great. Meet me at Mak's Pub down on the 75th street. I'll be there in an hour or so. Then we can talk business. Hehe. See you soon."

Karen put down the phone and finished her tinkering. She need a quick shower and to warm up the car. Duty calls.

[member="Karen Roberts"]

Vassara shut down the commlink and smiled. It was time to train and her thirst for knowledge was growing. She gunned the speeder right out of the hangar, pushing full blast down the street. As the populace milled about she dodged and swerved, moving this way and that.

It was not long before her mind began to empty, the tasks of the day melting away into nothing. She kept up her pace, moving swerving and dodging. Finally she arrived at the Pub.

Screeching engines woud down into faint purrs as she kicked the speeder off, parking it.

When she entered the pub she took a corner seat and leaned back, waiting for Karen...

Karen pulled up on her jetbike and tucked her helm under her arm. This spot would do nicely. She walked into the Pub and found [member="Vassara Raxis"] nearer the corner.

"Hello hello. Thanks for meeting me. Have you ordered yet?"

She sat down and grabbed a menu.

[member="Karen Roberts"]

Vassara smiled, kicking out a seat for Karen with her foot.

"Nope I was waiting for you, don't want to be rude now!"

She had a lot of questions and many things she wanted to learn. She almost felt as if the knowledge quest of hers would make her brain burst at the seams. Still she resisted her impulse, letting Karen get situated.

Jsc

~Still Surfin
Karen smirked.

"Oh! Sorry about that. Friday nights are busy for me. Such as it is. I'll take a might to look over the menu. Why don't you tell me about what you wanted to learn? I'm happy to listen."

She began browsing. Roberts was informal like that.

[member="Vassara Raxis"]

[member="Karen Roberts"]

Vassara hadn't had a blade in a while, nor did she use the force as she was very new to the world of the Jedi. She cast a glance at the menu and shut it. She already knew what she wanted.

"Stim caf please."

She turned back to Karen.

"Well what do you know that would be usefull to me? I'm interested in practical implementations of the force. Things that could help me in my travels. Specifically how to wield a lightsaber. There's another power too that I'd like to know about. Battle meditation."

She paused as the waiter brought her the stimcaf and she took a sip before continuing.

"I read about it in the datacron. The most recent mass application was by one Spencer Jacobs during the time of the Dark Harvest. How does it work? Can I achieve it?"
