Seasonal The Feast!

The Feast

Keen eyes tracked Saul's movements as the boy spoke to him, mouthing the words more than speaking them. It was helpful given the muffling effect these strange devices appeared to have. He considered his next words more carefully as he followed Saul back to their seating arrangements. "Thank you. I would like to stay, but... I do not know." He said grimacing at the window and things going on outside.
He turned back as another colourful flash dazed him and with a shake of his head continued to answer their questions, "My species?" He pondered this word for sometime before replying, "I do not know? I am flew from Rishii. That help?"
He raised a wing towards the window before asking, "What is that, your tribe under attack?" He looked around, seeing the figures walking. Not running. Their voices weren't raised either, if anything they were quite and he saw no fear in their faces.

Saul's mind was still catching up to the fact he was talking to a talking bird when it realized it squinting as the fireworks went on outside. Giving them the sign for one minute, he digged into the back pack hanging from his chair and pulled out a pair of sunglasses, gently perching them on the birds beak. "That should help some..." Hopefully the lenses would be dark enough to help his eyes adjust to the bright lights, just enough that the fireworks could actually be enjoyed.

Rishi made sense. If Saul knew his galatic geography right, bird people did live in its Mountains but this was his first time seeing one up close. "Alittle, it makes sense..." As... Viari gestured to the window, Saul couldn't help but chuckle abit before explaining. "No, its entertainment. Have your heard of pyrotechinics before? Humaniod peoples often fire gunpower shells into the sky to create... art I guess is the easiest term for it." Looking at the Birds face, he search for anything that said Viari was notural as he asked. "So, did you come here just for just the festival Viari... or do you got another reason why you are torturing yourself...?"

Viari's reaction was immediate, his eyes widening in excitement as the colours of the world became mute, a sacrifice he was more than willing to make considering the alternative. "Thank you friend Saul!" Viari announced hopping happily, without anything to anchor them the glasses slipped down to his shoulders and hung from his beak. Viari continued to churr happily as he listened to Saul's explanation. Many of the words he didn't understand, pyrotechnics and gunpowder specifically but he understood enough. Entertainment. Art... So this was just part of their culture?
Then, unsurprisingly the questions turned to him. Saul had been kind enough to try and explain what was happening so he felt compelled to reciprocate their gift, "Oh, no. Viari is exploring... hunting." He trilled looking around the room, his pupils dilating as he glanced into the darker corners of the room. A thought then crossed his mind and Viari reached a clawed hand into a messenger bag that was wrapped over one wing. It was sturdy, fashioned from hide and weaved together with what appeared to be animal hair with obvious imperfections in the craft, certainly not machine made and pulled out a rugged Datapad.
With practiced precision the Rishii tapped it, unlocking the device with a audible beep and placing it on the ground he enthusiastically showed Saul. The technology was certainly dated and still carried the insigna of the Rimward Trade League, inside was detailed descriptions of several planets including Dagobah, Denab, Taris, Talay, Sluis, Kirdo, Yumfla, Queyta and a couple that appeared cipher encrypted. In addition, were extensive research notes on Jubba Birds and something called Eostre. The most recent entries included Bastion and Dantooine although the quality of these entries was much more basic. "Friends brought Viari here; I like making friends." He explained before continuing, "I am hunting father. Pyeth. Pyeth left home, so I take him back." He finished sounding much less certain as he went on.

He couldn't help but smile as he watched his new bird friend hop around like he was walking on lava. He didn't know what the bird boy was thinking right now but at least the Android could help.

Raising an eyebrow, he couldn't help but wonder what the Bird was hunting. Saul would soon find out as watching the sentient creature move and act naturally. It was almost like he was experiencing being inside a zoo exhibit... Watching Viari take out the data pad, the insignia of the Old Trade League making him even more curious. How long had Viari been searching for... his father?

Reaching out to touch the Data pad's screen, he scrolled through the entries with some curiosity, guessing these were all the places they had been. "Yeah... Friends..." Given how badly he reacted to the fireworks, his friends had a cruel sense of humor. As the Bird went on to talk about bring his father home, Saul knew the chances that his father was still alive were as positive as Viari's voice trailing off. "I see... What was the last trace of him? I'll try to help with what I can, but I can't promise you anything." The Android doubted he would be able to dig anything up through the Diarchy Intelligent Assets he had access to, but it was worth a shot. And winning over a new friend was in exchange for typing in a textbox was a worthy trade off.

Viari made no effort to stop Saul, letting him scan through the contents while Viari hooted excitedly to himself. He was the the first one today to make such an offer and he would welcome any insight from someone much more knowledgeable about the Galaxy than him.

The data pad was a mixture of Celestial, annotated Geographical maps, pictures and personalised notes. Elements of the data was either corrupted or encrypted, represented as a string of characters, numbers and symbols in a dozen - maybe more - languages.

Some creatures seemed of particular interest to the author, the aforementioned Jubba Bird in particular. The nature of this research appeared to an attempt to learn and mimic their calls to induce a state of euthymia.

The planet Rishi seemed of particular interest to the author too, but much of the information here was heavily corrupted. The most recent additions, being Dantooine and Bastion. While it was similarly detailed the language was much weaker, not for a lack of understanding but a limited vocabulary, making it clear Viari had probably attempted to continue this work.

Finally, there were messages. The most recent was a note addressed to Viari from his father; a letter apologising for the loss of his mother. "Letter." Viari answered, beginning to fidget with his wings.

Saul took the offer to look at Viari's maps with a curious eye, smiling softly as he glanced at what he was passionate in. "So do you want a researcher too? Was your Dad just studying just birds or was he a generalist?" It was the only small talk he was give to pass the time. He knew engines, animals... they were largely beyond him. Thought he gave a slight frown at the loss of his mother, he quickly tried not to go into the bird's privacy too much, he centered on the last message, trying to see where it was transmitted from. It was there he could pick up the faint trail of stardust his father left behind.

Viari went silent, the shades beginning to slide down the smooth keratin of his beak. Was his father a researcher? Pyeth, his father's, time in the tribe was spent helping flock in whichever way he could but first and foremost he dedicated himself to his family - until he didn't. When he left on a hunt never to return.

Adjusting the shades by flicking his head he responded with a hopeful hoot, "No. I hunt-father bring him back! I then be Sunspeaker."

While some of the contents were either corrupted or encrypted, the message represented a lucky break or a lapse in judgement. The metadata remained intact, indicating it had been sent from the Oricon System several months ago.

"What Friend-Saul want to be?" He asked, curious to know what Saul's own goals were. Until he was overcome with a spark of inspiration he chirped in a low whisper, almost like sharing a secret, "Friend-Saul want be hero?"

Saul didn't know what the devil the chick was talking about but if Viari needed help, he had no reason not to give it. It would be worth it to give another young man his father back. Looking at the information, Saul creased his eyebrow at the Oricon System. "Well, you have a starting place atleast... And the Oricon System isn't that far off... galaxy speaking. I could try to unscrambling the corrupted contents, see what I can save..." It would be a miracle if he could save anything on this dataslate but he could give Viari the best chance possible. Sometimes miracles did happen amongst the stars.

The Android couldn't help but give a small chuckle as he shook his head at Viari's whispered question. "I just want to have a good life." Giving a pause, he let out a sigh. "You know I can't promise anything but I can get you a ship, help you try to find him. But I can't promise you anything other than a shoulder to lean on... or cry on..." Looking back up, Saul gave the young bird a half smiles as he offered his hand out. "Deal?"

Oricon. A system. Yes, he could work with that if nothing else. How Saul teased this information from the Dataslate was unknown to him, he knew neither the questions to ask or the means to confirm it but he trusted the boy. Well, he trusted anyone who didn't point a blaster or blade at him and so far very few had. Except those 'droids' at Dantooine. "Oricon..." He repeated to himself, his feathers fluffing up as excitement grew.
"Yes! Thank hero-Saul, deal!" He agreed, repeating deal back to him his own voice. "Hero-Saul want trinkets?" He asked, reaching a hand into his feathers to produce a handful of credits. It wasn't much, but they had no worth to him and for one reason or another he had seen them make people happy. Frankly, he'd given a few dozen away on his adventure already. Meanwhile, his thoughts turned to Saul's apparent objective, to lead a good life. What was a good life and more importantly what could he do to help Saul achieve that goal?
With a hand offered, Viari streched his neck and stared down at the open palm. It was a solid three seconds before he looked up again and gently touched it, offering the credits, with his clawed hand. "This?" He asked, clearly uncertain on what was expected of him.

Well, it seemed he got the birds attention, if nothing else. He only hoped he wouldn't be leading Viari to disappointment. Looking down at the credits, he reached in and curled Viari's... claw back around the credits. "You should keep those. Trade them for food and supplies." Plus, the Android would feel bad if he took advantage of this situation. He only had one question left. "When did you want to head out?"
