The Eternal Covenant - A Gothic Horror Story

"Darkness falls across the land
The midnite hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y'awl's neighborhood..."

The old kingdoms are bringing a new age. The long darkness brought on by the Gulag Plague never ended -- stagnation rules the Galaxy, and corruption, and decay. Will we always be trapped in the same cycle? Was our future interrupted, then cancelled? No longer.

We are the past that was never noticed, buried in the darkness between unexplored stars. The fallen empire of Akeldama, awakened from death by the will of the strong. The pharaoh-ruled theocracy of Ankhypt, reforged in the fires of the Netherworld crisis into a society of the mighty. The scions of the old ways of the Sith, who abandoned their dogma in pursuit of the true nature of the Force. Wild Space has always hidden the strange and mighty, but no longer can it hide.

We are the future that vanity has forgotten. We will scour the depths of the last galactic frontiers, and push technology and the Force to their limits. Artifacts, planets, species -- anything to break the balance, the stasis in which we are trapped. Guided by the Exarchs and the Noble Scions, and protected by the might of the Volikir and the Legion, we do not promise order, but rather a canvas as wide as infinity on which to paint new designs.

We are the answer. The fulfillment. The promise of transcendence in faith and science and exploration, unified under the black banners of blood-soaked nobles and limned with glittering gold, marching forwards past the ideas of 'good' and 'evil'.

Join, and discover the truth.

"And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse's shell..."

Most organizations have either a single presiding organization -- the Jedi or the Sith -- or a very weak governing body. Striking a balance between these is the Volikir, the Covenant's collective body.

Be one Jedi, Sith, Shaper, Witch, a member of a tradition yet more obscure or the follower of a personal path, each being that touches the Force is granted membership in the 'Volikir,' a place where knowledge is shared and nothing is off-limits.

Teaching a dark code of honor, the Volikir are expected to rise above the infighting and dogma of lesser wielders of the power and embrace a new philosophy -- purity and devotion. Only through the absence of doubt, the clarity of pure purpose can true power be received.

Taking various names - Guards, Adepts, Lords, Masters - they are united in purpose and will, and guided by their Exarch.

"The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom..."
----------------------------------------------------------------

Some planets allow the teeming masses to lift a ruler out from themselves. Others trust in the right of kings, while still others are brought to heel by force -- or Force. In common amongst all of these beings is that they are instilled with something, anything, that puts them on a level above the common folk. They have earned the right to be called 'nobles.'

Any player who leads a planet that pledges itself to the Covenant has the right to claim a seat on the Council of Noble Scions. This pseudo-democratic body represents the elite few who are trusted with creating and passing the laws governing the covenant.

A planet must be represented by a single noble, but the noble can bring a delegation of advisers into a meeting to consult with.

The presiding officer is the Chancellor - they decide which motions of the Noble Council will be put to a vote, and are elected periodically from the ranks of the Scions.

..:: The Exarchs ::..
----------------------------------------------------------------

"And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller..."

----------------------------------------------------------------

Although the Noble Scions determine domestic policy of the Covenant, where a vigorous debate is affordable and encouraged, a unified vision is required for facing the outside. This is where one must face the Exarchs -- a smaller council of beings who guide the most powerful branches of the government.

There are always three Exarchs -- the Exarch of War commands the military; the Exarch of Progress regulates economic and scientific development, and the Exarch of Eternity is the leader of the Volikir.

In times of dire need, the Exarchs convene with the Noble Scions to form an 'Elder Council' that acts with total authority. The Exarchs elect replacements from among themselves by majority vote.

..:: Our Purpose ::..
----------------------------------------------------------------

Wild Space is little different than the Galaxy -- except it slows you down. The tangle of unknown planets, the lack of well-mapped hyperspace routes have lent themselves to a much less cosmopolitan space, where the far-reaching presence of the invasive, infectious Galaxy has not reached.

This is not a bad thing. Purity is a result, purity of thought untainted by corrupting missionaries and crusades, civilizations that can feel the ripples of the Force and interpret them in ways not yet known. This is beautiful, and the Covenant must ruin it and plunder it and seize these jewels for ourselves and for the Galaxy itself.

The new, the unknown and powerful, this far horizon - this is what draws us. Soldiers fight for this cause, mystics divine it, politicians convene over it, but this desire suffuses us all.

Life's purpose is to grow beyond life, and our covenant is to stretch the weak into the strong, the finite into the Eternity.
