Sarn gave a sharp nod, his eye stalks dipping with approval as his twin mouths gave a deep hum.

Verity may have given her audible approval first but the Senator of Enarc joined after.

“Here here indeed!” His translator rumbled, the long slender fingers tenting as his broad head swiveled in agreement with the High Chancellor.

It was the the path of justice but also a sensible one. The assist of Republic forces as well as the process to not stand in the face of chaotic elements taking over worlds was the proper move.

Timing was everything of course, but one had to take action!

Duncan listened to the Chancellor's final words with steady attention, measuring not only their strength but their restraint. She had given assurance without surrendering process.

When she finished, and that quiet settled over them once more, Duncan gave a single, deliberate nod.

His expression softened into a small, approving smile as he glanced across the assembled senators, meeting a few familiar eyes along the way. There was agreement there, and resolve. This was not reckless escalation. It was preparedness.

"Aye," he said simply, his voice carrying just enough to be heard without cutting through the room.

She looked at him and was about to speak as Dominique gave a speech and her hands came up. "Here here." A small look though and she offered a bow of her head. "We'll just say it is something of an honor debt. For misdeeds done long ago." She said it and it was more personal then some might know. She looked between the two Alderaanians with a small smile though before she was joining the rest of the senators and chancellor who had plenty to plan logistically. They would send one of the keth cruisers there. It would be able to do a lot to help them from the shadows as it was an was its own solidly designed. "I will see if we can get whateverr else is being sent loaded on it."

Liana's eyes darted between Gram and Dominique. She wasn't sure how to explain it herself, nor did she feel entirely comfortable with doing so. For all she knew they'd just think she was crazy, "Just call it a hunch."

Regardless of Liana's suspiciously confident omens, the Chancellor was willing to extend aid to Alderaan in the form of military stationing. A senatorial deliberation over the topic of extending their borders to Alderaan was not a guarantee of safety, but it was a step in the right direction. And if those present at this petition were at all an accurate sample of the senate at large, their odds looked good. One by one they gave their approval of the Chancellor's statement, and Liana found herself swelling with hope.

"Thank you all. I look forward to continuing our work together— with any hope under more secure circumstances." She offered each of those present a grateful nod, lingering on the Chancellor for a few moments. Turns out a corpo like Vexx could use her power for good after all. Maybe she wasn't so bad.

Liana then looked to Gram, letting him get in the final word of the session and finalize the details between Alderaan and the High Republic.

Chancellor Vexx suggested stationing Republic military forces in the Alderaan system. Gram was quick to encourage the idea. "Thank you," he said, nodding to her and the Senator of Denon. "We will welcome your forces with open arms, gratitude in our hearts."

"We'll just say it is something of an honor debt. For misdeeds done long ago."

Gram studied Ayumi, his face impassive. Indeed.

He surveyed the rest of the room, mentally cataloguing everything they had said so far. This was a step in the right direction, to be sure. Even the possibility of Alderaan becoming a member world was still on the table. The meeting had actually gone better than he expected, which was a very good sign.

There was still the matter of Princess Liana's odd... prediction about the Black Sun. But he could ask her about that later. He addressed the Republicans: "Thank you all once again for giving us your time and attention. Junior Ambassador Organa and I will be in attendance when your Senate deliberates on the matter of our membership. Until then, farewell."

Chief of Staff for Senator Ayumi Pallopides

Melanie considered her boss’ concerns carefully.
“Based on my research, the cities of Kalder and Sanctuary on Alderaan both have extensive port facilities and are highly industrialized.” murmured Melanie, just loud enough for Ayumi to hear. "The existing infrastructure is already in place, so it would be fairly inexpensive to convert parts of the ports in either city into shipyards or add them as extensions. I can send the data over to the Alderranian delegates as a polite suggestion."

Keeping one ear open for Ayumi’s response, she returned her focus towards the broader hearing. Chancellor Vexx herself took the floor, bringing up the issue of the Black Sun compounding Alderaan’s security dilemma. It was a useful reminder that while the Sith were certainly the most existential threat to Alderaan’s hard-fought freedom, they were far from the only faction vying to exploit its wealth for their own gain.

One by one, the Senators in attendance and even the Chancellor rose up in solidarity with Alderaan, firmly pledging a military detachment to aid the planet’s people in their time of need. Melanie found herself proud to be among their presence, glad that even with their great importance and political standing they did not neglect worlds whose protection would not immediately benefit their careers.

Shortly after the impromptu vote, the Alderaanian delegates made their closing remarks, the usual platitudes thanking the Senate for their support. Unlike the chambers of commerce on Denon however, the results of today’s meeting felt not only significant but galactically significant. The Republic was taking a progressive step forwards in pledging to defend a world that shared its democratic ideals, establishing a precedent for further galactic solidarity with the downtrodden, oppressed, and impoverished.

As the meeting drew to a close, Melanie only had one more task to do.

As promised, she opened up her work holopad, revealing a file showing the publicly available schematics of the Alderranian cities of Kalder and Sanctuary. Added to the schematics were 3D models of docks that could be converted or expanded into shipyards at modest expense to the Alderranian government, the relevant locations highlighted in a yellow hue to distinguish them from existing facilities.

Behind both Melanie and Ayumi, Republic Senate staffers and interns rushed to and fro to make deliveries. She turned and approached one, a young Human woman in a crisp Republic uniform.

“Could you please hand this to the delegates from Alderaan?” asked Melanie, offering up her holopad. “Tell them it is on behalf of Senator Pallopides."

The woman nodded, taking the holopad out of her hands before dashing off into the hallway and behind a door. Satisfied that the message would be delivered and her holopad returned to her once the data was copied over onto another device, Melanie turned back towards her boss. She resumed her position by Ayumi’s side, once more assuming the image of the austere middle(wo)man for Denon’s distinguished Senator.

Inside though, Melanie was full of excitement. Today, she had made her first real contribution to galactic politics.
