GENERAL INFORMATION
Religion Name: The Drowned PathReligion Type: Force-Based / Dark Side Occultism / Esoteric Mystery Religion
Influence: Minor
Influence Area: The Drowned Path has no established homeworld. Its practitioners are scattered across the galaxy, usually congregating around forgotten temples, ancient ruins, hidden sanctums, archaeological sites, and locations believed to possess unusual disturbances within the Force.
Symbol: A stylized tentacled creature enclosed within a circular occult sigil. The creature represents the unknowable entities said to exist within the depths beyond conventional perception, while the circle represents the boundary between mortal reality and what followers call the Deep.
Variations of the symbol frequently incorporate violet, black, silver, and dark gray.
DESCRIPTION
The Drowned Path is an obscure Dark Side religion built around the belief that the Jedi and Sith have both fundamentally misunderstood the true nature of existence."The Force is only the surface."
— Darth Vhalor
Its followers do not reject the Force.
They believe the Force is incomplete.
According to the teachings of the Drowned Path, what sentient beings perceive as the Force is merely the uppermost layer of something infinitely deeper. Followers frequently compare existence to an endless black ocean: the known Force represents its surface, while beneath it lie depths that have never been properly understood.
Those depths are collectively called the Deep.
Vhalor teaches that ancient intelligences exist within or beyond the Deep. These entities are collectively referred to as the Old Ones.
Whether the Old Ones are actual beings, forgotten Force entities, manifestations created through Dark Side visions, creatures from unexplored regions of space, or merely the product of religious interpretation is deliberately uncertain.
The Drowned Path does not possess proof of their existence.
It possesses belief.
And its followers intend to find that proof.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
Founder
Darth Vhalor — The Deep-SeerWhile fragments of the philosophy may originate from older texts and forgotten traditions, the modern Drowned Path was organized by Darth Vhalor.
Vhalor was already an obsessive student of Sith sorcery, ancient religions, lost civilizations, and unconventional Force traditions when his research led him to writings describing something existing beyond conventional perceptions of the Force.
His discovery of the Tome of the Drowned Star transformed that curiosity into religious conviction.
Vhalor eventually gathered his discoveries into a unified philosophy.
Thus the Drowned Path was born.
Vhalor does not consider himself a god.
He considers himself a seer—the first person willing to stare beneath the surface long enough to understand that something might be staring back.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership within the Drowned Path is neither hereditary nor restricted by species. Most followers are recruited individually.
Artifact hunters, archaeologists, Dark Side practitioners, scholars, disillusioned Sith, explorers, mystics, and those who have experienced unexplained Force phenomena are particularly attractive candidates.
Potential initiates undergo a ritual known as The First Drowning.
The initiate is isolated from outside stimulation and placed into prolonged meditation while exposed to carefully controlled applications of Dark Side energy, ritual chanting, sensory deprivation, and symbolic imagery associated with the Deep.
The purpose is not necessarily to produce a supernatural experience.
It is to make the initiate confront the limitations of their own perception.
Those who emerge believing that they have glimpsed something beyond themselves may continue along the Path.
Those who reject what they experienced are allowed to leave—although particularly secretive sects may be considerably less charitable.
SACRED
The Deep
The Deep is the most important concept within the religion. It represents everything beyond mortal understanding: unexplored dimensions of the Force, forgotten history, hidden knowledge, death, dreams, and the unknown itself.
Knowledge
Knowledge is considered sacred regardless of whether it is considered dangerous.Destroying ancient knowledge is among the closest things the Drowned Path possesses to an unforgivable sin.
A dangerous truth is still considered preferable to a comforting lie.
The Tome of the Drowned Star
Darth Vhalor's mysterious tome occupies a particularly sacred position within the religion.Followers consider it one of the earliest known gateways into understanding the Deep.
Original passages attributed to the Tome are carefully preserved and copied by Vhalor's disciples.
The Old Ones
The Old Ones are treated with reverence, but not necessarily worshipped as conventional gods.Followers disagree about their nature.
Some consider them gods.
Others believe they are primordial Force entities.
Some consider them beings from somewhere beyond known space.
Vhalor discourages certainty.
To define something completely, he argues, is to pretend that you fully understand it.
DOGMA
The Drowned Path possesses no enormous collection of commandments. Instead, its teachings revolve around several fundamental principles. The Force Is Only the Surface
The Jedi and Sith understand only those aspects of the Force they have learned to perceive.Followers must never assume that established teachings represent the limits of reality.
Seek What Others Bury
Forbidden knowledge exists for a reason. That reason should be discovered rather than blindly obeyed.
Ancient tombs, lost civilizations, forbidden holocrons, forgotten religions, and abandoned temples are therefore considered worthy of study.
Fear Is a Door
Fear should neither be suppressed as the Jedi teach nor simply weaponized as many Sith do.Fear reveals boundaries within the mind.
Followers are taught to approach those boundaries deliberately.
Knowledge Before Power
Power without understanding is temporary.Knowledge can survive civilizations.
Followers are encouraged to seek understanding before attempting domination.
Never Destroy What You Do Not Understand
Ancient artifacts and writings should be preserved whenever possible.Something apparently dangerous may contain knowledge that cannot be recovered once destroyed.
Question Certainty
The Drowned Path teaches that absolute certainty creates intellectual blindness.Even Vhalor's teachings may be questioned.
The search for truth is more important than obedience to doctrine.
There is, however, an irony within this teaching: questioning whether the Deep exists is acceptable.
Attempting to prevent others from seeking it is not.
Look Into the Deep
Every follower is expected eventually to confront something they cannot explain.A vision.
An artifact.
A forgotten ruin.
A disturbance in the Force.
A nightmare.
The follower must resist the instinct to immediately dismiss or rationalize the experience.
Sometimes madness is madness.
Sometimes a nightmare is merely a nightmare.
But sometimes—
something answered.
REPUTATION
The Drowned Path remains relatively unknown throughout the wider galaxy. Most Jedi scholars who encounter references to it would likely classify the movement as an obscure Dark Side cult influenced by Sith occultism.
Traditional Sith may have an even harsher opinion.
Vhalor's suggestion that Sith understanding of the Dark Side is incomplete can easily be interpreted as heresy, while his willingness to place knowledge above personal domination conflicts with many conventional Sith philosophies.
Archaeologists and artifact hunters occasionally encounter the Drowned Path's symbol carved into ruins or placed beside archaeological sites.
Among spacers, rumors are considerably less academic.
Stories speak of masked figures entering abandoned temples.
Ships disappearing while investigating strange signals.
Explorers waking from nightmares speaking languages they never learned.
And a pale warlock carrying a black tome who appears wherever something ancient has been uncovered.
Most dismiss these stories.
The Drowned Path prefers it that way.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Drowned Path did not begin with a revelation. It began with a question.
During his studies of ancient Force traditions, Darth Vhalor repeatedly discovered references to phenomena that neither Jedi nor Sith teachings adequately explained.
Different civilizations separated by thousands of years and enormous distances occasionally described remarkably similar experiences.
Black oceans beneath unfamiliar stars.
Whispers heard during meditation.
Enormous shadows witnessed during Force visions.
Symbols representing tentacled or many-limbed entities.
References to something described simply as the Deep.
Most scholars dismissed these similarities as coincidence.
Vhalor did not.
He began searching abandoned temples, forgotten archives, archaeological sites, Sith tombs, and worlds whose civilizations had disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
Eventually, Vhalor discovered what became his greatest treasure:
The Tome of the Drowned Star.
The writings contained within appeared to support his growing suspicion that civilizations predating many known galactic traditions had encountered something they could neither understand nor control.
Vhalor became convinced that the Force known to Jedi and Sith represented only a fraction of a much greater reality.
His studies became an obsession.
His obsession became philosophy.
And philosophy eventually became faith.
Vhalor gathered fragments from dozens of traditions and reorganized them around a central idea:
The Force is only the surface.
He called his philosophy The Drowned Path.
Its earliest followers were not armies or priests. They were scholars, explorers, mystics, outcasts, and seekers of forbidden knowledge.
They traveled quietly.
They collected what others destroyed.
They entered ruins others feared.
They listened where others heard only silence.
Over time, stories began following them.
Stories of nightmares shared by people separated by entire star systems.
Stories of impossible whispers recorded aboard otherwise empty vessels.
Stories of ancient ruins whose walls contained symbols identical to those found on worlds that had never contacted one another.
Vhalor considers these discoveries evidence.
His followers consider them revelation.
Neither has conclusively proven what waits within the Deep.
Perhaps nothing does.
Perhaps the Old Ones are merely interpretations of Dark Side visions produced by minds pushed too far into forbidden regions of the Force.
Perhaps civilizations throughout history simply gave similar faces to the same primordial fears.
Or perhaps Vhalor is right.
Perhaps something ancient has been sleeping beneath the surface for longer than anyone remembers.
The Drowned Path does not promise its followers salvation.
It does not promise immortality.
It does not even promise that understanding the Deep will benefit them.
It promises only the opportunity to discover the truth.
And for Darth Vhalor, that is enough.
"Do not pray that the Deep is empty.
Pray that whatever sleeps within it
has forgotten how to wake."
Pray that whatever sleeps within it
has forgotten how to wake."
