Hyperdrive Class: 1.8
Strengths:
- Enhanced speed / agility
- Centuries of modifications by dozens of crews have pushed this vessel well past what she was originally capable of.
- The Dark Dove's jamming equipment enables her to confuse enemy targeting equipment and navicomputers, simultaneously preventing larger foes from locking onto her and preventing smaller prey from being able to calculate a jump to lightspeed.
- By all accounts, the CR90 should have fallen apart and sold for scrap decades ago. But despite it all, the vessel continues to fly as well as she ever has, surviving in scenarios that would have reduced faster, more powerful, more armored ships to dust.
Weaknesses:
- Temperamental reactor
- While responsible for her increased speed, agility, and power, the Dark Dove's reactor is highly unstable due to centuries of tinkering and experimentation; it is far more vulnerable to over-stressing and meltdown if not constantly monitored.
- While her enhanced sensors wreak havoc with enemy systems, that same jammer array also negatively affects the Dark Dove herself, preventing her from using her missiles or jumping to lightspeed.
- It's rumored that it's more than love, grit, and Corellian durasteel holding the Dark Dove together. Over the years, it's been speculated that some unknown, unseen force resides in the ship, and it isn't allowing the Dove - or those that served aboard her - to pass on. Just spacer superstition, of course...
- While still capable of its usual abilities, the 4x-Phantom jammer installed on the Dark Dove has to cover a much larger vessel. As such, its range is greatly reduced in comparison to standard usage for the device.
Description:
First built in the years prior to the historic Battle of Yavin, the ship that would become the Dark Dove has proven to be a testament to both Corellian engineering and personal innovation, lasting eight and a half centuries and becoming far more than her stock form had ever been capable of. The first major incident in her history came with the Battle of Endor, where the corvette - flying as part of the Rebel fleet - was damaged to the point of near-destruction, barely able to make the jump to hyperspace and losing most of her crew to radiation poisoning in the resulting jump, causing the Rebel Alliance to leave her for scrappers on some backwater world.
Almost two decades later, a smuggler with more money than sense purchased the rusting hulk and restored her to order, and from there the ship served in various capacities. A privateer vessel one year. A raider ship the next. A personal transport bought for a pittance one decade, and sold even cheaper as the wealthy individual lost the ability to sleep while on board. And with each owner, something was added to the ship - a replaced capacitor here, a mounted missile launcher there - until she finally became truly distinguished from the rest of the ships in her class. At this unknown, unsung point in time, the Dark Dove was truly christened.
Eventually, the ship - to those few that knew of her, at any rate - became something of a white elephant, with owners becoming familiar with her history and trading her off as soon as they could. It continued this way until a Talusian by the name of Bulthos Dorrir purchased the vessel in defiance of the stories, dismissing the notions as folklore.
