The crux of the plan

Arthos Vynea

Character
Character
The Iridonian orbited the planet of Myrkr the YJX-1200 heavy freighter was a lonely ship in a very big sky. Its presence was not without purpose however, a most cunning purpose. Arthos had achieved his master's plan of gaining the senate seat for Iridonia. A mixture of money, charisma, and brute force had brought his key opponents to simply take their name off the ballot. This lead to a new necessity though, he would need a way to mask himself from the Jedi.

So did he find himself here above Myrkr, on his knees before his master. His voice a bare whisper as it echoed throughout the cockpit.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

His whispering voice just repeated the code until even the whisper became hoarse but still one word followed the next. He had passion, and through it and his master's teachings he would have strength. In the end he would be free of all things. He had no desire to rule, but to be free at all times to do what he wished. For his people to be free at all times to do as they wish. Such had his master promised, and for that he would obey.

The Umbaran stood over the Iridonian who was knelt before her, one hand, her left, clutched at the curved hilt of her lightsaber, sickly orange beam permeating the darkness which was otherwise seeping in around them. Through this the flash of their eyes, their bright iris', were illuminated tenfold, yet the shadows still clung all over the interior of the ship, save for a measly encompassing of space around them. All the while the near-human murmured words which had been engrained in her mind from the moment she stepped upon Korriban all those years ago, wide-eyed with wonder and the prospect of her future, not least in the presence of a fellow Umbaran who would later become Emperor and her Master. While reflecting upon this her gaze remained fixated upon the man; he had done as she bid, which proved to her his worth if only minutely. Enough to warrant her attention... For now. What the future held between them she could not say. One false move and she would end him, either in the final or infinite sense - weakness was not something she allowed, in any sense of the word. But he would learn that soon enough, they always did.

Now she had a voice, and more so than that ears, within the heart of the Republic, within the body that kept it moving. Oh how things were falling into place... But things had to be sorted first - after all, the Jedi would sniff out such a darksided Force Sensitive in no time. No, plans would come into fruition soon enough, but further progress had to be made first. Her eyes pierced into his when he finished reciting the code, and a whispered voice left her, barely reaching his hearing and yet being understood by him all the same. "It is one thing to know of the code, and another to know what it means." Stepping into a circular pace around his body, in a predatory style, the young Umbaran surveyed him from each and every angle, the movements causing new and fascinating shadows to jolt in the light of her saber, before she once again remained immobile and stationary. Her eyes were imploring of him while she awaited a response; every bit of her mannerisms warned him to remain exactly where he was, she was not finished with him yet, and rising before he was bade to do so would not end well for him.

Without raising his head or moving Arthos gave his understand of the Sith code to the woman he called Master. His voice was no longer a whisper but there was still some hoarseness from his repeated whispering of the code. "Peace is a lie, there is only passion. The act of holding your anger in, pacifying yourself for the betterment of others is a false one. Only in passion are free to truly take the force, and thus; Through passion, I gain strength. Strength when utilized gains you power. Many confuse the two and think they are one. I have power as a senator, but it was gained by your strength, my Master. So in truth it is your power you wield through me a tool. Through this power you will gain victory over your enemies, and over all that would contain or limit you. Your chains shall be broken and one day my chains will. As apprentice and master none will hold us to their will and bidding. We will be free through the force, our passion creating strength in the force. That strength giving us power, and victory. All is through our power over the dark side of the force, my Master."

He was silent then as he waited for her judgement of his understanding of the Sith code. They were no simple words and he felt the truth of them in his bones. He would be Sith, and his beliefs meant he already was.

For a very long time she said nothing, but the fact that she did not strike him down proved one thing - that he hadn't messed it up too badly. Infact she ignored his response all together, giving no feedback on it she instead made a subtle gesture for him to rise and turned on her heels, disigniting the sickly orange blade in order to reflect upon the stars she could see through the transparisteel window. Waiting for him to join her at her side, she merely said; "You have work to do before you're strong enough to carry this out." By this she meant that he was no senator yet, not in her eyes - not until those on Coruscant were unable to pinpoint him as a Force Sensitive, let alone a Sith. "Only then will your place at my side become solidified."

It would be a long, hard road he would be walking, one with many possible perils, but one day he would be grateful for it... If she ever let him increase in power enough to obtain a further rank. After all it was not wise for a Sith to teach their Apprentice everything they needed, least of all since it increased the chances of them killing and exceeding you. Turning to face him she regarded him in silence, before flicking her wrist out to the side in an oddly gracious manner. "Meditate on your passions. We begin right away."

Arthos followed in silence as her eyes searched out amongst the stars. He stayed silent as he spoke knowing speaking out of place would displease his master, and he had much greater need of her then she of him. She could find another senator to bring to the dark side or open seat, but he couldn't find a master to teach him so easily. "Meditate on your passions. We begin right away," and with a gesture directed to her side.

Sitting with his legs crossed Arthos closed his eyes and attempted to harness his passions and feel the force through it. His first thought was his focus, his home of Iridonia. He had years of emotions wrapped into his people and their world. The cowards who had kept them contained until the Republic had swallowed them in its weakness. He could taste his anger like a storm, pure and undiluted he indulged in it. He was right and he knew it, his people had a destiny, and it would be achieved. With his a near snarl he allowed himself to seep into it, to feel his passion spread throughout his mind like the howling wind. Nothing would stand before his people's destiny, and he would lead them to it despite any who who lacked the conviction.

While he meditated she waited, pacing calmly around him, almost intimidating in her movements, each step with feline precision like a predator. He had to learn to mask himself, to keep them from knowing the truth, and his mind too had to be fortified. Yes, Kara had a lot of work to do with him before his first session in the Senate, but it would be well worth it. To have eyes and ears in the heart of the Republic? That was priceless, and one could not fix a time stamp upon it. No, patience was crucial, she had waited before now, and she could do so again.

Finally, she decided he was ready to begin. "Focus in on yourself in conjunction with the Force. No, don't open your eyes, keep them closed, retain your passions, and focus. Find your presence, the darkness which enshrouds you, your signature in the Force..." It was often difficult for someone to grasp the initial concept required to hide ones presence, and it began with understanding - with realising that it even existed, with finding it and becoming aware, and it was this that they would be focusing on first. Small steps which would shake the Galaxy in time.

His passion was like fire in his blood as he felt the force around him clearly, and yet a storm of chaos. He reached out with his anger pulling to force to him. Like the center of the burning sun he slowly pulled the force to him and used it to feel about him. At first he got nothing, like a newborn child seeing for the first time attempting to reach out with eyes that could only see the dimmest of shadows. He would need more control, and more strength in the dark side.

With a slow breathe he pulled on his emotions to get deeper into the dark side. He saw his sick and dying mother before his eyes. Abandoned by his father, and elder brother he was left alone to watch the slow death of their mother. He had found his hate. With the hate he took the force in hand like no lovers embrace, but as a servant that would obey his will. Pushing his senses out he slowly felt about him, and for the first time he felt the force around him. He could sense the world around him, and perhaps he could even touch the world with the force with enough effort. That wasn't his lesson though, his mission was to find his own force signature. He needed to find his own darkness.

He felt the area around him feeling the difference of 'flavors' in the aura around his presence. The darkness around his presence was amplified by his hate, and the rage that consumed him. The definition around the aura that came off him melded into the air about him and as he sensed outwards he touched upon his master's presence. Her power radiated out and left his own as a pitiful mockery. The difference put it into perspective, and as he pulled his senses back he felt his own presence. Slowly he defined his presence within the force and found his signature.

Watching him she felt his progress through the Force; how to begin with he had to fight to find it at all, which was in truth enough to bring a frown to her lips, but when he managed that the rest was easy sailing it seemed. Good, it would make things easier for them. He reached out to the generic presences of non-living things within the room, then to her own - the latter seeming to put into perspective what he was searching for. And sure enough he found it, she could sense his understanding.

"Now, I want you to focus in on it specifically; forget everything else, just focus on your passions, the Force and your presence; you will need all three in conjunction with one another. Fuel your affinity to the Force and focus on shrinking your Force presence, make it smaller, and even then smaller still, until it is a speck... Until it is even less than that, and not even you yourself can find it. Completely suppress it, but do not snuff it completely - removing your connection is painful, and it would render you useless."

While she waited the young Sith paced around his body, each step silently cushioned so as to make no noise at all. "You will learn how to hold this without exerting any power through the Force, without making it obvious. You will learn to do it without thinking, to make it a natural process. Only then will you be ready - but there is more to go from here, before you will be permitted to Coruscant." She still had to increase the defences on his mind, and on top of such build up an entirely separate section through which it would seem as though his mind were open - after all, his race did not naturally have barriers, and to suddenly have them would make them aware of his Force sensitivity and his falsehood. No he had to learn to split his mind; to hide that which he did not want them to know, and to show them what he wanted them to see.

Without opening his eyes Arthos nodded silently in obedience. He could feel his own presence in the dark side, but to shrink it down was another matter. At first he attempted to push it inwards but it fought against him. Focusing on his hate he drew it in like a great breath of air. Slowly he pulled it into himself, and was lost to the struggle as minutes passed. As the darkness that was him grew stronger he found he still had to fight to maintain the shrunken aura. There was no doubt that once he had learned this completely it would require practice to perfect it.

Realizing he'd literally forgotten to breath physically as he struggled he felt his lungs struggle to take an explosive breath. He refused his lungs though, how could he be master of anything if he couldn't be master of himself. With effort he allowed his lungs to slowly take a normal breathe as he returned his focus inwards. He pull his signature in the same way he breathed now. Not explosive, or violently, instead he slowly brought it in like a muscle. He could feel the force around him as his passions were present in him but hidden deep within an ever shrinking bubble that was his signature. It was there it had simply become so unnoticable it was difficult to feel for him. The control was the problem though, it required quite a bit of his focus to keep his force signature hidden. In time though he would become master of himself.

And there it was, understanding. She could feel it flex and mould within him until he grasped it with both hands and began to use it. Oh, how long this would take him to perfect. Kara would not let him out of her sight until he did so, whether that took days, weeks or even months - perhaps even longer - he had to have this and several others aspects under his complete control. Or else this would crumble down before him. "Again" she said immediately, as she resumed her pacing, her gaze never once leaving him. "Push on through the strain, you will not be weak; force yourself to be stronger. Remember that the Force can be broken to your will, bend it and subjugate it, make it yours to do with as you please, and nothing will be impossible to you. Be Victorious - break your chains and the Force shall set you free!"

When she recited part of the code she halted behind him and glared down at the back of her head, her own passions becoming heated and enflamed as she stood there waiting. It would be a long and intense evening in space for the Iridonian, as Kara had no wish to treat him any easier than she would treat herself in a similar situation. "I can still feel you through the Force - and so will the Jedi. Work harder Arthos, or you will be of no use to me." All of this and similar she said to him, trying to push him if only so that he would snap and truly release his passions through his emotions. He had to learn to let them go, but not in the way that the Jedi did, no, instead he had to expel them in a creative and calculating manner - to use them to bend the will of the Force to his own hand.

Arthos snarled at her words, not at her, but rather at himself for the truth of her words. Reaching out this time there was no pulling, or pushing. Not even a slow motion, but instead he pulled his passions together and felt the dark side entwine him in it's dark arms. Pulling at it he forced his will upon it and took hold of it in his mind. Not a thing to be reasoned with, but a tool to be used as he wished. Reaching his awareness out he felt his signature and focused his will upon it.

In silent meditation he seethed with rage, and hate allowing the power of the dark side of the force to pool inside of him. Focusing it he pulled his signature into him. He didn't pull with a yanking force, not sure if he made it so small it would never return. Instead he moved it one stage at a time, and each him he let his awareness fall back away from himself to see if he could still sense it. After several attempts he finally had it confined to a tiny ball as he felt it, inside of him. Even searching he found it difficult, but the question was would his master.

The next stage was to maintain that ball without having to focus himself completely on the effort. Like all muscles it took time to train them to do as you needed them to, and perhaps even harder was the muscles you were flexing for the very first time. Like all muscles though, it could be controlled with training. The size he found took less of his awareness if he didn't attempt to reach his senses outwards with the force. He would have to live like he couldn't touch the force in order to keep his secret from the Jedi. Opening his eyes he stood his awareness of the force greatly diminished, but the effort of keeping it there reduced to that of the flexing of a muscle. "I obey, my Master."

"Stop worrying!" she declared, tone slightly raised as she became enflamed in the passions she could feel radiating from him. It was suffocatingly delicious to witness this, his slow understanding and acknowledgement in the Force, the way he was fighting to bring it into his will... "It is yours you will not lose it!" This time she halted in her pacing and glared at the back of his head. "Your emotions are too open! They will be spotted if you require them so intensely embedded in your mind for this to work, even if your Force Presence is not. Harness them do not let them rule you but instead, like the Force itself, rule them! Learn to be subtle and the Galaxy will tumble into your hands before anyone can realise." And again her pacing resumed.

Raising a hand she brought it down against the back of his head to try and knock him off focus, hoping to make him drop the Force usage he was undergoing. "You need to make your focus subconscious, learn to have it ever present rather than forced, to hide the emotions while drawing upon and harnessing them. Subtlety, Artos. Subtlety. How do you expect to get anywhere in this Galaxy if your enemy can sense your emotions flare every time you seek to attack them?" With an aggravated growl she added, "Work harder." Before turning to stride to his front. There she stood, arms crossed, lording over him as he resumed the exercise. Failure and weakness was not an option, not when there was so much at stake - he would be one of her greatest weapons, he had to understanding that being meagre would not do. He had to go above and beyond.

Arthos felt the ire of his words, and in truth they cut him like a knife. He would not lose this opportunity, not now, not ever. His whirlwind of emotions were the issue now for while his force presence was reduced to near invisibility, his emotions were anything but. Breathing out he tried to calm himself, but the calm wasn't the answer he sought. His passion was the key to using the Force, without it he would lose that power. So he had to simply learn to harness, and control his passions so they couldn't be felt like a whirlwind.

He'd found his hate, he'd found his rage, he'd even found his goal, but not he needed to find his control. He needed a focus to channel his passions, and control them. Slowly he calmed the storm within him, not ridding himself of passion, but letting the storm simply turn into a drizzle. Even as he did start to control it he lost it as she struck him, and in truth the rage in him wanted to lash at her. He wanted to bath her in his spiritual fury, but not to harm his Master. No he needed her approval so he could accept his own abilities. Using that as a focus he allowed the torrent of rage to turn to quiet. Yes, he could be the eye of the storm. He saw that now with such clarity it nearly shocked him. He didn't have to send the storm away, but control it from the eye.

He was its master, and it would obey him. And she was his, and he had obeyed her. "Yes, my Master."

She watched as his face contorted in rage, she could still sense his emotions and it spiked her own - yet the difference was it didn't show with her, she kept it hidden inside like a wellspring from which to draw upon when she required to. His anger fluctuated, as did the rest of his emotions, and then he did something foolish. He tried to calm them all away, as though meditating in the style of the Jedi. She could have beat him black, blue and bloody for that had something remarkable not happened moments later... It seemed as though he finally understood. To have emotions did not mean to let them rule you, but instead to control them. Not in the way a Jedi did, one did not suppress them, merely harnessed them, bind them to your will.

"Good..." she finally said, giving him some minuscule amount of praise despite how hard his efforts had been throughout the session. It was her place to push and scold more so than to praise; it would harden him, and that in turn would be reward in its own for the Iridonian. "And now you see." Pacing around him she could find no trace of emotion nor presence in the Force. Now he had to learn to keep it up, while doing other things. How to make it so that even the most extreme of emotional situations he would be able to remain disguised. How to uphold this and an array of mental barriers and a secondary consciousness within his mind. Oh, how these sessions would be tough for him. "Again" she simply stated, eyes narrowed in annoyance. "Faster this time, it cannot take so long." And so it was that she worked him for hours on end, to fine tune and perfect this art as it stood... But there would be so much more in his future to learn.
