The real real Nines.
BOROSK, HIGH ORBIT
ICNV BELLEROPHON
For the sixth time in the past thirty years, Borosk had a new master.
After decades of prosperity and exponential population growth under the New Imperial Order and its much smaller successor, the Imperial Military Protectorate, Borosk had been conquered in quick succession by the Dark Empire, the Empire of the Lost, and the Diarchy. Now it was the Mandalorian Empire that filled the vacuum left by the Diarchy’s collapse, seizing Borosk without a single life lost.ICNV BELLEROPHON
For the sixth time in the past thirty years, Borosk had a new master.
In orbit of Borosk was Orbital Primary, the largest shipyard under the ownership of the shipbuilding corporation Alge Imperial Shipyards Incorporated. Producing dozens of cruisers and Star Destroyers every year, Orbital Primary was the centerpiece of Alge Imperial’s capital ship production. Yet with the arrival of the Mandalorians, the future of the orbital shipyard was uncertain.
For the past three years, Alge Imperial had taken extensive military contracts from the Diarchy and Imperial Confederation, providing warships, weapons, and metal alloys to the two Imperial powers, primary sourced from Orbital Primary or surface facilities in the city of Alge. The Mandalorian Empire’s hostility towards both states was well-known, and AISI’s status as a supplier for the two empires planted a target on its back.
The worst-case scenario feared by the Board of Directors was that the Mandalorians would seize the shipyard outright, setting the corporation back decades overnight.
So the Board had sent their largest shareholder out into Mandalorian space in hopes of reaching an agreement.
Personally, FN-999 had little issue with the Mandalorians as long as they did not intervene in Imperial affairs.
The Diarchy had felt the brunt of Mandalorian aggression in recent months, playing a major role in its ultimate demise. If his negotiating partner was particularly fanatical in his devotion to Kad Ha'rangir, there was a chance FN-999 might not even leave the system alive.
It was no surprise then that the general had a failsafe in place.
A sizable fleet of warships centered around the Cato-class fleet carrier Pompey idled in the nearby Aris system, only a short jump away from Borosk. If negotiations fell through, the fleet would jump to Borosk, disperse any Mandalorian vessels defending the planet, attach cables to Orbital Primary, and then jump into hyperspace with the station in tow.
Hopefully, FN-999 would not need to take such drastic action. Just as there were bloodthirsty zealots among the Mandalorian ranks, so too were there diplomats and peacekeepers of the New Mandalorian movement. By appealing to their desire for progress and stability within the Mandalorian Empire, the old Imperial could hopefully sway the Mandalorians to allow Orbital Primary to remain in place where it was best suited to receive material from the supply lines of the Tingel Arm and the Alge Metropolis below.
So he kept his outlook cautiously optimistic as he descended into the Bellerophon’s portside hangar, flanked by four squads of Imperial stormtroopers. FN-999 halted about halfway down the hangar, his escort stopping behind him. He kept his gaze fixed directly ahead at the hangar gates as they lurched open, giving the Mandalorians access to his frigate.
