The Brightest Star

Today was a good day, compared to the many others over the past two months. The usually troubled seer was feeling perhaps a smidge jubilant, and with good reason: word had reached him that only days after [member="Kian Karr"] had been congratulating him on his ascension had the Kel Dor been accorded further rank, as well.

Just a few days before, his friend had made him very carefully aware of the existence of the Shadows and his efforts to build them up again, and Jan had just as carefully made his offer to help in any way he could. Some of his skills could be quite useful to a Shadow and/or a Sentinel in particular, and that is why he was here today, the only extra item he had on hand was the pair of protective lenses perched atop his head.

It wouldn't do to temporarily blind himself in teaching, as he had managed to do in learning the skills of Force-flash and Force Light, the former of which he was here now to impart to a friend. While waiting, he slipped the protective lenses over his eyes and gave the skill a try-out, having not used it recently. After a moment or two a flash some degrees brighter than that first attempt on Ruusan resulted, some solemness creeping into his expression after the sudden brightness winked out; his hand dropped to his side, as he remembered [member="Kira Liadain"]'s cheerful face from that day, a constant of of his early days with the Jedi.

All he knew was that she was alive - something he had learned was called a 'master-student bond' would have let him know if she was gone. It was some small comfort.

Kian Karr's mind was a whirl of thoughts as he made his way toward the training grounds where [member="Jannik Morlandt"] awaited him. Kian had just been granted the title of master and in all honesty it took him a bit by surprise. Kian found it difficult to picture himself as a master. But he had sworn to himself that he would not allow the title to go to his head nor would he let down the Jedi and the Republic.

With that in mind, Kian had redoubled his efforts to track down Darth Sevena, the Sith Lord who was the latest target of the Jedi Shadow's pursuit. There was so much work still to do to bring the Shadows back to what they deserved to be, and in order to help in this endeavor Jannik had agreed to give Kian some further training. Kian may have been a master now, but that did not mean his days of being a student were over.

As Kian approached, he saw a flash of light in the distance and made his way towards it. Coming across the source of the light, Kian was surprised to see it had been Jannik himself.

"Greetings!" Kian shouted as he approached, raising a hand and bowing his head.

The sight of [member="Kian Karr"] coming along put a decent yet not-terribly-brilliant grin on his face, and he waved, then gave a tip of his head as well. It wasn't exactly easy to see when a Kel Dor was happy when you weren't well-versed in their facial expressions, but tone of voice and whatnot made up for that, mostly.

"H'lo thar, Master Karr," he greeted, with clear emphasis, "ah must congratulate ye. Ah understand this comes well deserved."

He slipped the once-freed hand back into a pocket, like its mate.

"Though, ah'll understand if ye feel as confounded as ah felt wi' mine. As ah've come tae know, most'f us dun feel as if we deserve it."

Kian nodded along to [member="Jannik Morlandt"] as he spoke. Kian wasn't sure how he felt about his promotion. He was honored that the masters of the Order felt he was ready for the responsibility and yet he felt as if he was a pretender sometimes. He hadn't done as much as some had throughout their Knight years and Kian just hoped he had the experience and know-how to do some good. Regardless of this, Kian was determined to do justice to the Jedi Order and serve the Republic with honor.

"It is a bit surreal." Kian said. "I keep expecting someone to tell me this is all just a joke."

"So, perhaps we'll just have to act like we deserve it and no one will know the difference." Kian said jokingly, steeping his force aura in good humor.

He nodded. That was the way, at first.

"Ah s'pose 'tis a hallmark of a Jedi on th'right path. Humility, aye, Master Karr? Feeling as if we rightly deserve it speaks tae entitlement, an' leads tae th'feeling that', p'haps, we are better than others."

He'd had a lot of time to think on such things during his 'time away'. So many little things that he had done to cling to the Light in a place so full of the Dark. He'd never thought that philosophical musings on the matter of the Code would have helped, but here he was. Moving on...

"As ye well know, ah'm glad tae help in whate'er capacity ah ken, with your..." he gestured, a small sweep of a hand at [member="Kian Karr"], "...project. Th'utmost secrecy must be maintained, aye?"

He gave a small, flat smile, and a little nod.

"Right, then. What d'ye know about this 'Force-flash', if anything?"

Kian smiled, and even let out a laugh [member="Jannik Morlandt"]'s words. Kian nodded his head along and would have winked at the man if his goggles would have allowed it. Kian's time with the Shadow was making him a far more secretive man then he had been when he first came to the Jedi.....but to his great surprise he found he had a knack for it.

"I know that it can disrupt camera feeds and temporarily blind an opponent.....but I'm afraid nothing more then that. Nor how to utilize it." Kian said, searching his memory.

"I believe it works along the lines of the force techniques used to disable droids, but alas that is also not a skill I have taken any time to learn." Kian said, running his hand over his anti-ox mask. He hadn't focused much on specialized skills when he was rising through the Jedi ranks, focusing most of his attention on the skills he needed to survive on the battlefield. Now though, with his more secretive work, he needed these skills more then ever.

He nodded, finding [member="Kian Karr"]'s brief explanation acceptable. They were both somewhat secretive, for different reasons. That said, they were both aware of the secrets the other held, even if some details were withheld.

"Well, iffin y'are interested, ah ken help ye with tha', too. Today or another time."

One corner of his mouth quirked upward.

"Ah learned both on th'same day, meself. Master Liadain 'ad taken me all th'way tae Ruusan tae do so. Well, let's get on with it, then. What sort o'foundation d'ye have with respect tae th'Alter set of abilities?"

"I have an academic understanding of many of the abilities, though I typically don't use them." Kian said considering his training with the Jedi. Kian's force training early on had focused on abilities that tied into his telepathic and telekinetic skills. Then he had begun to focus on stealth and investigative work and his force training had continued, but at a less accelerated rate.

"I'm most skilled in stealth, telekinetics, telepathy, and have a decent understanding and use of force barrier and deflection." Kian said clasping his hands behind his back.

"I'd greatly appreciate the help learning them. They would be, very helpful!" Kian said chuckling to himself. There had been a number of times in his life when force flash would have come in very, very handy.

[member="Jannik Morlandt"]

He nodded.

"Good enough, Master Karr, good enough. That'll do nicely."

One end of his mouth quirked upwards, as he let sparks dance across his fingers, casting a faint glow on the skin at his fingertips. Aquamarine, a fair difference from the typical yellow or green that came with Electric Judgement.

"Alright, time forra demonstration. Shield y'eyes, or don't. Ah didn't, th'first two times..."

The particles then sped up, making the glow greater and brighter until the activity could no longer be sustained and it all blew out in an incredibly bright flash of light, considerably brighter than when he had made his first attempt at it, years prior.
