The Beast Below

Silence ruled the turbolift as it descended deeper into the crust of Ambria. Darth Animus stood at the head of the small procession, made up largely of combat droids and a few other Sith from within the Order. No one spoke as the lift plunged ever deeper into the darkness, and even the droids could sense the unease that dominated their masters. Finally, the turbolift came to a halt and slid open, the droids rushing out at once and raising their blasters, training them on the only door at the end of the long, narrow hallway.

Signalling for the others to follow, Animus began to walk towards the door, the droids taking up positions in front of the Sith and covering their approach. The further down the hallway they progressed, the more signs of what the Vault held within became evident. Claw marks lined the wall, barely leaving a single solid segment intact. Lights flickered from where they had been destroyed and never replaced, and Animus had to step over the discarded husk of a combat droid from a long ago mission to this place.

Animus shook his head as he continued on, resisting the urge to draw the saber at his hip. He would not show any sign of unease to the creature within. He would be the one in charge, no matter what happened.

Finally the group came to the door, and Animus turned to the other Sith that had come with him. "Are you sure about this?"

Sickly greenish-yellow eyes turned to peer at the Sith Lord. Shorter than he, she found it necessary to arch her neck, scanning the powerfully-built Warlord. When she spoke, it was with two voices; her own, and something deeper & darker beneath the surface...

"The beast will not harm us, Animus... but we must be cautious. We cannot be sure of its' power. It is, for the moment, contained... but it's best we do not linger longer than necessary."

The Nightsister muttered an incantation, drawing her power around herself and her companion like a dark cloak, closing their minds from alien influence. She made a gesture, using both her hands to form a pyramid of interlocked fingers, then drew a seal in the air between them. For a moment, all sound seemed to fade... before the lift hit bottom, and the doors swung open. The Nightsister stepped out of the Turbolift first, calm as death. All sound had returned to normal, but something was different. She was completely in-control.

She turned slightly, eyeing the powerful Sith Warrior.

"I suspect his power grows, the closer you approach."

And that was all she said.

Darth Animus grimaced beneath his mask before reaching out and thumbing the command key on the side of the door. He proceeded to enter a series of codes into the console there, taking several seconds to do before a click resonated through the silent hallway. Slowly the door to The Vault swung open, revealing pitch black room within. If not for his helmets filters, Animus is sure he would have been nearly doubled over from the smell that assaulted his nose. He waited for [member="Telsiis Kovvess"] to enter the Vault first, before following after her and falling into step beside her.

He despised coming down to the Vault, but it was often quite necessary. The Order of Shadows needed the beast that they held captive within it, yet it was a risky bargain. Should it ever escape, the possibility existed that it could destroy the entirety of the Order within the Temple, and spread its darkness across the galaxy. Some within the Order argued for the beasts death, Animus himself among them, but the overwhelming majority overruled them, stating it served more uses alive than dead. Animus accepted their view, for now.

Coming to a halt once again, Animus waved his hand through the air, igniting braziers dotted along the length of the room with purple Sith fire. Finally, the flames lit the whole room, revealing the horror that was within.

Standing before the great vault door as it swung open, the Nightsister's expression did not waver. The foul odor assaulted her own nostrils, stinging, burning, noxious & destructive... but her Magicks kept the Witch from recoiling in horror. She was no stranger to such putrid corruption & evil. The black room beyond beckoned to her and she entered, swallowed by shadow.. consumed by it. She moved in silence.

Before Animus began lighting the torches within the Vault, the witch muttered a spell beneath her breath, blinking her eyes three times in rapid succession - suddenly, her vision drastically changed, and the room was no longer dark. In fact, she could see... Everything...

The very ebb & flow of the Dark Side was visible to her, as it curled & danced in the ether; a dark song, caressing all things, everywhere. Purple fire began to illuminate the room, but it would be for [member="Darth Animus"]' comfort. Not her own.

Ahead, deeper within the vault, the subject of their visit had already noticed them. Waves of dark power rolled from the beast, spreading outward like a stone thrown into a deep pond - she'd never seen such powerful Darkside Vibrations.

The Beast roared with laughter. The sound was terrible... reminiscent of a thousand crying children screaming in unison, or how one might imagine a dying star might sound moments before it winked out of existence. The very air vibrated with immense power.
The Consumer gripped a shriveled carcass by it's leg, bashing the body twice against the solid bars which confined him. After the second impact, the body disintegrated, but spread no blood as it came apart. One bloated hand, and a powerful metallic claw which seemed to absorb any light which touched it, gripped the bars like a prisoner pleading for release.
The beast's teeth were permanently bared; the flesh of its' lips long since rotted or torn away. When it spoke, it was through those clenched, stained, bleeding teeth:
"Locked in the dark, without a meal. Is that any way to treat a prisoner? Deliver to me a drink... or I shall drink one of you."
Even at the distance between them, [member="Darth Animus"] & [member="Telsiis Kovvess"] would feel an overwhelming urge to do exactly that... to approach.
The creature occupied a great & powerful cage which rose from floor to ceiling. Each bar was nearly the thickness of a man and set close together; even a small child would have had difficulty passing through them. A long, solid chain linked the corpulent hairless creature to the wall, restricting its motion and controlling its' speed. The chain had been forged and enhanced with the power of the Dark Side, making each link all but unbreakable. Were it used to restrict a normal human being (or even a fellow Sith), movement in any direction at all would be nearly impossible; as it was, regarding the creature it presently arrested, the tall, obese, bald-headed creature was able to move nearly unrestricted.

Sickly yellow eyes burned with unfathomable hatred & desire, and saliva dripped from its' teeth, coating them in a disgusting sheen.

"Come. Closer... Let me see who comes. Step into the light..."
