OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To detail a location of paramount importance for the custom world of Confracta while simultaneously providing an economic center for The Second Triumvirate.

SETTING INFORMATION
  • Shipyards Name: The Banded Forge
  • Classification: Planetary Shipyards
  • Location: Confracta
  • Affiliation: The Second Triumvirate
  • Population: Heavily Staffed
  • Accessibility: The Banded Forge stretches from the north pole to just below the equator, home to dozens of companies and no less than four governmental bodies - making it an impossibility to conceal. The forge is easily detected and seen from Confracta, which in itself is a world located within the Golden Veil, which itself is found deep in the Unknown Regions. The nature of being a single massive centralized industrial site is that by nature it is completely open to the public - and the four governments accompanied by dozens upon dozens of companies operating within them.
  • Description: The Banded Forge appears at first glance to be a massive canyon running from the North Pole of Confracta to just below the equator, in some places reaching a deep as the core. It glows bright orange and proud of the fires of near-constant industry and obvious volcanic inclination of the planet's deepest reaches. Serving as the world's single most defining trait.
OPERATIONS INFORMATION
  • Production: The Banded Forge is theoretically capable of producing anything that can fit within it, encompassing the entire industrial capability of a star-faring civilization. In terms of dedicated ship-building facilities, the Forge has produced everything from Starfighters to Cruisers. Through considerable effort, some larger vessels encompassing more massive space-frames have been produced but are significantly expensive undertakings, and thus remarkably rare planet-side.
  • Specialty: The Banded Forge suffers the burden of an extremely wide range of productions, a fact of reality which leads new productions to be established slowly, however once in place highly efficient. The struggle of this is that new operations take excruciatingly long times to grow, even to simply find the room to do so. Thus specializing in any one production would be dangerous, and financially unacceptable. Make no mistake, this is a weakness resulting in vessels taking far longer to design accompanied by a lack of experience within drydock crews.
  • Output: One may be lead to believe that due to the nature of the Forge as a truly, awe-inspiringly massive undertaking that it would be capable of outputting vast amounts of goods, this is however met with a sharp drawback. The vast majority of the Forge's skilled Workforce are Cerevessians, a species who are by nature very slow, very particular workers. Every product is treated as an individual piece of art, and thus no two are alike. This is another weakness, preventing the establishment of any one streamlined production.
  • Market: The Banded Forge is not owned by any one group or corporation, those that do are almost all entirely driven by the prospect of profit. Even vessels produced by Government shipyards within the Forge are often offered as an export to the galaxy at large, or select customers.
SECURITY
Medium | The Forge itself is too massive to be defended on anything from other than a planetary scale. Certain key facilities, however, do support their own defensive networks of at the most a dozen Turbolaser Towers.

POINTS OF INTEREST

The Skyspire: Reaching deep into the core of the world, the Forge has rendered itself blanketed in toxicity only added unto due to rampant pollution. Clean air must be acquired and provided to workers, it is done here. The massive tower (which is in truth a series of facilities blanketed around a tower) reaches dozens of kilometers into the sky, capped with vents and combs. Here it sucks in clean air from above, scrubs it and pumps it to the depths below - pressurized into tanks.

The Far-Depths: The chasm which contains the Banded Forge was originally dug deep into itself for the prospect of easily attainable mineral wealth. This remains today with the vast majority of it still dominated by volcanic activity and magma brought up forth from the deep reaches below. Comprised of vast nets of geothermal energy plants built into the cavern walls or distended haphazardly over pools of magma and refineries trawling the stuff for anything of remote mineral wealth, some built on great dams using tractor beams and shields, others on massive tracks with metal combs lowered below like the fangs of prowling beasts.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Confracta has a natural inclination towards ancient things made modern, supported through eons by fiercely traditionalist denizens. The Great Banded Forge is no different such a thing, built upon the site of an ancient cataclysm - taking place in the now consumed Banded Desert, from where the forge takes its name. An ancient Force Cult attempted a ritual of terrifying power two thousand years before the Battle of Yavin. The secrets and details of the ritual itself were lost to history, but in the time it brought about a near apocalypse. When the dust finally settled a massive fissure had been ripped into the crust of the world, spewing forth the very blood of the planet, molten minerals made flowing wealth. The natives were quick to exploit this newfound resource. Picks, drills, all manner and sort of digging thing was unleashed upon it. Digging ever deeper, ever greedily. Where once were mined soon sprung factories, plants to harness geothermal energy. Most scars fade, this one grew endlessly as it continues to today, still spewing forth the Magma that made it such a prime target originally.

The Forge has since her genesis into existence been considered a part of the Commonwealth of the children of Confracta, a protected resource open to all of the world, perpetually and with no question. This has spared its destruction in the fires of war or from becoming dominated by any one individual organization. Just as the Gulag Plague and following darkness gripped the peoples of Confracta, so too did it the Forge, which fell deep into a resting slumber it has only recently begun to be awoken from. Today the Forge is still in the process of being fully reactivated, with thousands and upon thousands of facilities offline, though this leaves ample room for growth should the venture prove profitable enough to justify an investment. A shadow of itself, it still stands a titan of sheer industrial power, perhaps one of the mightiest of the Unknown Regions - if even still a drop in the ocean compared to facilities of the greater galaxy at large.

So a few things that need addressed or clarified:

  • Dainivhir Valeport said:
runs down the length of the world of Confracta
this would suggest it goes from pole to pole, but you mention it goes only to the equator later on. Fix this contradiction.
  • If they can make civilian size ships on the scale of a Star Destroyer, even if expensive, how can they not develop a military version?

Sure, there are thousands of turbolaser turrets spread across it, but none concentrated enough to ward off anything larger than a frigate.
Thousands of turbolasers is immediately going to earn at least a high-security rating, bordering on maximum, even if they are scattered across the length of this canyon.
  • Finally, more of a thing I want you to be aware of. If the canyon goes all the way down to the core of the planet, and is deep enough into the mantle, most of it is going to be magma unless the makeup of the planet is different so keep that in consideration.

  • Contradiction eliminated, you didn't even spare the poor thing a headsman.
  • Removed specificity of larger military productions, changing the production of large vessels in general to be a very difficult operation.
  • Reduced number of Turbolasers to cover a few key facilities, as due to the relatively peaceful history of the planet it didn't make much sense, to begin with. Thanks for catching that!
  • Made it clearer that I am aware of the volcanic nature of such a landmark, and updated the wording accordingly to prevent such confusion in the future. I also split the Sky-spire in two and used the new location to further serve this goal, there was no intention to leave the implication that this is anything other than a swarm of factories built over a near-endless pool of lava, as the provided images also suggest. Thank you!
