SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • "BRRRRRRT!" – This gun is designed to vomit a lot of damage over a long distance very quickly. Under most conditions, it is projected to be able to perform pain-inflicting feats such as: rapidly stripping the shields off a cruiser; efficiently grinding a deep underground bunker to rubble; or swiftly sawing the bridge off a proper star destroyer.
  • Cuts Deep – the Poly-tibannalene rounds are highly capable of armour penetration and explosive detonation.
  • ION Mode Toggle – the energy detonation of the poly-tibannalene projectiles can be easily repolarized for ION detonation after impact.
WEAKNESSES
  • Devours Real Estate – being a large, complex laser canon, it can be fairly difficult to fit into a common starfighter design. Fitting multiples of these canons would be pretty near impossible.
  • Recoil – the poly-tibannalene bolts are very heavy and large. That, combined with the very high rate of fire makes these guns extremely difficult to control when firing.
  • Over-penetration – Against lightly armored or unarmored targets, the poly-tibannalene projectiles may sometimes pass cleanly through without detonating, causing minimal damage beyond narrow kinetic punctures.
DESCRIPTION
Poly-tibannalene was never a delicate solution. It was built to punch through armor, detonate on the inside, and punish anything that mistook thickness for safety. Once the Dorneans proved it could be fired reliably, the next question became very difficult to resist: how can we make it even scarier?

The answer became the Dornean Rotary Laser—quickly and affectionately nicknamed the Can-Opener. It exists for one reason: to disgorge poly-tibannalene bolts at a rate that makes durability a losing strategy for the enemy. Dornean Inconel containment and gravity-refraction assemblies allow the munition to form, fire, and reform continuously while the barrels orbit around the axis. The result is not a conventional energy weapon so much as a sustained demolition instrument that loves armor.

The Can-Opener does not require a decisive moment. It creates inevitability through persistence. Shields are often worn down through brutal repetition rather than scientific finesse. Armor is often cut open one impact at a time. Each bolt tends to penetrate before detonating, allowing damage to stack internally instead of dispersing outward. Against capital hulls, heavy fighters, hardened bunkers, or reinforced superstructures, resistance typically becomes a liability. The tougher the meat is to chew, the sharper its teeth can get.

As with most poly-tibannalene systems, an ion-mode toggle is integrated into the platform. While initial impact remains kinetic, the post-penetration yield can be repolarized into ion discharge. Once shielding has been degraded, sustained fire can transition from structural damage to systematic internal failure without changing firing rate.

The drawbacks are not subtle, however. The weapon is large, heavy, and hostile to most mounting set-ups. Recoil is severe as sustained fire stresses its host, and integration into standard starfighter frames is functionally difficult. Over-penetration remains a known limitation; against lightly armored targets, some rounds may exit the target before full detonation. This is considered an acceptable nuisance.

The Can-Opener is not meant to be elegant. It is an engineering Dornean answer to a nagging question: how can we vomit as many poly-tibannalene bolts as possible in a short period of time?
