That Ain't Happening

Sol really did not like working as a bodyguard. Some mercenaries loved it since it was usually an easy pay cheque. You just hung around a rich bastard and made sure that he didn't get shot, most of the time you didn't have to do anything your presence was preventative. However, with Sol's luck most of the time when he guarded someone, something happened. Part of it was that big shots only hired on mercenary guards when they thought there was a threat to their lives, the other part was he mostly only took jobs when The Force told him to.

Luckily this was one job The Force hadn't told him to take. The man he was guarding was criminal scum but the good kind of scum, at least to most peoples minds. A politician. In his opinion, most people in such roles were just criminals with good P.R. but hey at least this guy wasn't trafficking in anything too illegal, that Sol knew of.

Anyway, his biggest issue with this job right now was the boredom. Unlike most mercenaries, he actually liked to do stuff. A lot of mercs he knew wanted an easy payday so they could whore, drink, smoke, or inject themselves into an early grave. He did it because it was better than sitting around in a shake in the woods working on his grumpy old man routine, he didn't need any more work on that after all he had it down pat.

He had pulled night duty which meant he was standing in a dark hallway in front of the door to a lavish bedroom, just waiting for something to happen. Like with most of his clients he pointed out that they'd be safer if he was inside. But the delegate, like most of his clients, declined to have the help in his rooms. It really didn't make a huge difference to Sol but still annoying.

Emile could've targeted any person for his meals. He could've picked some random nobody off the streets, could've fed in abundance off those who few would even notice, let alone care, should they disappear. He could've sauntered up to the nearest bar, spun webs of sweet nothings and quarter truths and snagged all the lowlifes his palate could possibly stand. But where would the fun be in that? He took a certain joy out of tricking pull souls into wasting their lives on a chance they never had in the first place, sure, but even that grew dull after so long.

So, he looked toward targets that'd produce more of a challenge, those whose name would be known by more than a handful of people. Why, he wasn't opposed to dealing with some security, too, and get two or three bodies for the work of one. It was an exercise he'd thoroughly enjoy, a chance to stretch his legs in such a manner befitting him. That being said, he normally avoided politicians. Too many eyes on them, regardless of how much they of all people deserved what was coming to them.

This was different, however. He was bored enough, confident in his skills enough that he set his sights on this politician. And things were going swimmingly. This politician had a guard, of course, but he was also one of the many who preferred to sleep with the guard outside the door. A dumb idea if ever there was one, one Emile could work with.

There were multiple routes he could go with. He could try and go through a window, take care of the guard, any other number of things. Granted, the first option would require bypassing any alarms attached to the window. The second was assuming he could deal with the guard, not something he was worried about but still, it could be problematic. No, instead he set his sights on the alarm systems. Better to make all inhabitants of the building evacuate to a more public area, somewhere where he could snatch the politician right under the guard's nose and the confusion would cover his tracks.

The alarm starts blaring and Sol looks up curiously. That was certainly odd, he hadn't sensed an attack, a systems malfunction? It didn't really matter either way it was standard operating procedure time. Since he had night duty he moves into the bedroom where the politician is struggling with grogginess and confusion. Grabbing the man by the arm he hauls him to his feet and gets them moving towards the safe room. It was a fireproof blast-proof bunker, the kind of room all politicians had in their personal abodes for when stuff like this happened.

Of course, the politician was complaining. He wanted to stay in bed since he was certain it was just a malfunction in the system. However, under contract Sol, that the man had made Sol sign, Sol was obligated to follow standard procedure despite his sleepy complaints. He tried not to show too much malicious glee in following his orders. He liked making the man suffer so what?

While he was doing this the rest of the guards start roaming the house. They'd start with the location that Emile tampered with the alarm system since that could be narrowed down from the security centre. From there they'd head out in a spiral pattern looking for any sign of who had done the deed. Commlink check-ins happen every five minutes. The guards at the control center would also be watching the cameras more closely no longer half asleep.
