The office was without much light, even as the sun reached its zenith on Fondor, the Tetan Senator remained all but asleep at his desk again. His head moved slightly and a pain shot through his body that awoke the man straight up. Hands reached for his head but it only made Damian wince as he attempted to gently massage the injured side. Perhaps it was a bit foolish to leave the hospital as quickly as he did but the young du Couteau heir had far too much work accomplish.
The bacta bandages were quite the annoyance but he dreaded the return visit to see what coverings would be available for him once the bandages were removed. Countless of outfits that needed to match with his new face-dressing, be it a quarter-mask or a stylish large eyepatch, Damian could already foresee the endless Tailor appointments. He groaned to himself but it was better than the alternative fate. Though he wasn't entirely sure a perpetual state of tiredness and endless work outweighed the prospect of an afterlife.
Death provides us with the most comfortable bed and sleep after all. He mused darkly, his weariness getting the better of him once again with a rather uncouth joke. Life was supposed to flash before his eyes right before he met his end, but all he saw was a life he wanted and not the one he had.
“Maybe the afterlife we hope is just a reflection of our regrets during life.” Damian mumbled as he gently placed his fingers over his left eye and over the bandages on his right. A faded memory of his mother protecting his eyes whenever the lights were too bright for his sensitive irises.
The door to his office opened and almost immediately the curtains were raised to allow the sun to chase away the shadows. Damian sighed as he gently removed his hands and gestured towards his Senate Aide to get on with it, he really was running out of patience.
“The tailor wishes to know your opinion on the commission, your next review meetings for station construction in the eastern systems have been arranged for later this evening.” His Aide explained the schedule for the day as he arranged the meeting area in front of Damian’s desk with fresh tea, cups and several biscuits and scones.
“-I believe the Doctor recommended protein and vitamins, not sugars and carbohydrates my dear Aide.” Damian spoke wearily as he stood up and walked towards the tea.
“The Doctor recommended bed rest in your hospital room for another week, sir. . . And the tea being set is for your meeting with Senator Organa. Which is scheduled in a few minutes.” He corrected the Senator without a whiff of sarcasm.
Damian’s lone crimson eye widened with realization as he searched for the time on his data-slate and nearly mumbled a curse beneath his breath. He quickly patted down his clothes, the creases and wrinkles mostly evening out as he cleared his throat and gathered himself. He moved towards the entrance of his office, walking past several mannequins with half-finished tailor projects while others with complete outfits remained in cases.
The Fondor office finally appeared mostly similar to his father’s design back on Coruscant. While it was impossible to replace several ruined outfits and capes that were lost during the Senate building collapse, though the one stolen could be remedied in the future; Damian stood proud of the effort placed in the reconstruction. It was the least he could do to help smooth his sister's worries, she blamed herself for being insufficient in protecting their father's items. Damian hoped that Fondor wasn't the target of hidden starship construction beneath the surface, he wasn't sure if he could handle another office renovation.
Ready for official meetings at least.
