Code:
Government: System of nation-states established across the planet. After the nuclear exchange, most of the major
governments ended up shattering into a patchwork of semi-permanent and transient nations. Largest transnational
organization is referred to as the, “League of Allied Nations,” a patchwork of democratic, republican, and capitalist states
that reformed thirty years after the nuclear war. The League has reestablished a collective defense pact and is in the process
of trying to rebuild a new international order.

Code:
Other competing transnational group is called the, “Brotherhood of Communalist Nations,” a close analogue of the Warsaw
Pact with a collective defense pact among Communalist and modified Communalist surviving states. Both the League and
Brotherhood existed before the global nuclear exchange. However, both sides have signed a treaty of recognition and respect
for each other and the odds of another conflict are extremely low if not nonexistent. After the experience of a global nuclear
war, neither side wants to risk another war that could destroy what little they have left.
Code:
 An international oversight and diplomatic forum, called the “Union of Sovereign Terranian States” is to meet for the first
time this year in city of Genvi on the Southern Continent. It is hoped that in the future, this organization will be able to avert
crises and create a forum for the governments of Terrana to meet and discuss their plans for reconstruction.
Code:
Population: ~1.3 Billion Estimated 40 years post-Nuclear Exchange, 5 Billion pre-Nuclear Exchange
Code:
Demonym: Terranian
Major Imports: None, no ties to the Galactic Market

Major Exports: No preexisting exports to speak of. Large deposits of gold, silver, diamonds, and other valuables to speak of. Large deposits of hydrocarbons, iron ore, and other useful materials as well. Some post-exchange manufacturing of electronics such as radios and hand held wired and unwired communications equipment. Some continuing manufacturing of primitive computers by galactic standards in the established extant nation-states. Very limited manufacturing of titanium, transparisteel, and some extremely limited manufacturing of durasteel in a lab setting in the major nation-states.

Affiliation: No pre-existing faction affiliations, uncontacted by the Galaxy at large.

[SIZE=12pt]Major Locations:[/SIZE]
[SIZE=12pt]-Brotherhood of Collectivist Nations Headquarters, Mushvak, Ranian Collectivist Union:[/SIZE][SIZE=12pt] It is where Rania, the reforming nation of Zhong, and the remaining nations of the Brotherhood meet on a biyearly basis to discuss matters pertaining to reconstruction and redevelopment, international trade, and any defense issues that might emerge during the year. The head of the Brotherhood operates on a rotating basis with a new representative from one of the five remaining original Brotherhood nations being selected every year. In the last three years, several newly formed states have applied for membership to the Brotherhood based on their adoption of Collectivist political ideologies. However, given continuing negotiations with the League over final borders in the Eastern and Western Continents, it is doubtful that their applications will be heard until formal diplomatic negotiations are concluded in Genvi on the Southern Continent with the representatives from the League.

[SIZE=12pt]-League of Allied Nations Headquarters, Siod, Southern Terranian Union: As Siod was mercifully spared a hit from a nuclear weapon, its Old Legislative Building survived the exchange and was turned into a refugee center for a year before the Southern Terranian Union (STU) took it over and returned it to its original purpose of a legislative building. In 817ABY when the League was reformed, the STU volunteered to give the Old Legislative Building to the League for its diplomatic, military, reconstruction, and economic endeavors. The head of the League operates on a two-year basis where a new Chairman of the League is elected from the representatives of the eight League members. Twelve additional survivor states and a number of states that have formed out of states destroyed during the war have applied for membership. Like those states that applied for membership with the Brotherhood, their status is to be decided at the end of formal diplomatic negotiations in Genvi in the neighboring Genvian Federation. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]-Union of Sovereign Terranian States Headquarters, Genvi, Genvian Federation: One of the only states to receive less than five nuclear weapons hits during the war, the Genvian Federation survived the exchange relatively intact. This is largely the result of its policy of noninterventionism and neutrality. It has maintained this policy even though it shares a border with the Southern Terranian Union which is an active member of the League of Allied Nations and was damaged during the nuclear exchange. Because of this history both the League and the Brotherhood agreed that the new Union of Sovereign Terranian States’ headquarters should be located in the capital of the Genvian Federation to ensure neutrality in any future conflicts. The Genvian government has selected its old Congress of Nobles building located in central Genvi to serve as the headquarters of the Union. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Culture: Terranian culture is currently in the process of reforming after the nuclear exchange that nearly wiped out its population and destroyed most of the major population centers. As such, small towns and villages are the center of society and culture or Terrana even as larger cities are rebuilt and people slowly return from the countryside. For many Terranians, farming and the day-to-day struggle to stay alive takes priority over the pursuit of other things such as intellectual achievement. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Education[/SIZE][SIZE=12pt]: Terranian education is still suffering forty years after the nuclear exchange. Most families will send their children to school until they are at least fourteen years old and then have them return home to work on the family farm. There are high schools and a university system that survived the nuclear war, but they are small and limited in number. Most Terranians have a basic grasp of literacy and mathematics, but for the moment the limited national governments are still trying to ensure that their population can continue to grow and rebuild. Education is, nevertheless, considered important and those with a high aptitude for science and math are shuttled into medical and engineering courses as soon as possible in the larger cities. The demand for doctors and engineers means that the humanities have taken a large hit while medicine and engineering are emphasized. Some plans by the national governments to open up funding for humanities and social sciences, but it is not known when that will happen. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Daily Life[/SIZE][SIZE=12pt]: Most Terranians who survived the nuclear exchange have spent the last forty years trying to rebuild some semblance of normalcy after the destruction of most of their major cities. Many homes before the war were built with fallout shelters which increased the percentage of survivors outside of the epicenter of the blasts. This practice has continued as most new Terranian homes come with a fallout shelter and an area for a family to shelter for at least five to six weeks. Because of the war most Terranians are hoarders, or what they would call “Stockpilers”, by nature. No Terranian home would be complete without at least three months’ edible food, potable water, and medical supplies to keep a large family going in the event of the unknown. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]In addition, most Terranians have some firearms (Slugthrowers) that they keep around for personal and home defense. In the wake of the nuclear exchange, society collapsed in on itself and violence was prevalent everywhere. Firearms are considered a necessary evil and most Terranians own at least one. Crime in falling from its previous high in the years after the war, but it is still far above that of prewar Terrana. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Force Users[/SIZE][SIZE=12pt]: Although Terrana had no contact with the Republic or the Sith, there were still force users, or at least Force Sensitives, on the planet. While most of them had no form of training at all, there were and continue to be several religious sects that worship those with force sensitivities. In the old days before the war and before even modern Terranian society was built, force sensitives were known as “Witches” or “Seers” because of their ability to perceive the future or at least be sensitive to future events. Some of the best pilots in the League and Brotherhood air forces before and during the war were force sensitives. But, none of them ever entered formal training for their force powers and no formal academies or academic courses for the study of the force were ever established. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Military[/SIZE][SIZE=12pt]: The militaries of the League and the Brotherhood are still very small after decades of peacekeeping and reconstruction work. Most of the duties of the various militaries include enforcing the peace in former refugee camps, many of which have become like small cities (OOC: Analogous to the status of refugee camps in Lebanon during and after the Lebanese Civil War), distributing food and medicine aid to more distant communities, and aiding in reconstruction efforts. The various Corps of Engineers within the League and the Brotherhood have become the equivalent of formal government offices. The small surviving national navies and air forces have been retrofitted to transport government officials, doctors, teachers, and relief and reconstruction materials. Very few combat aircraft survived the war or the postwar years. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]In areas where civil control collapsed after the exchange, such as in the central and eastern portions of the Eastern Continent, military organizations and paramilitary organizations have built their own independent fiefdoms and micro-nations of their own. In one of the central nations in the western portion of the Eastern Continent, government control entirely collapsed and these fiefdoms and micro-nations became the only powers in the region. In the immediate postwar years in many parts of Terrana, these micro-states were the only shelter from the storm of lawlessness they could find. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Transportation[/SIZE][SIZE=12pt]: With the collapse of society most people reverted to walking for transportation, or modified personal four-wheeled transports that ran on refined hydrocarbons. Once the little amount of refined hydrocarbons ran out after a few years, most people ended up either walking or using a local variant of horses and ponies. Larger draft animals such as common Banthas were also used as their ancestors had used them for beasts of burden and helping with farm harvests. In the past twenty years some of the surviving national governments have begun to rebuild mass transit that has lain dormant or unused. One of the earliest transportation forms reactivated was intercity trains which had before the war been powered by electric lines. Now, they reverted back to using coal and gaseous hydrocarbons in order to power them. In the last ten years some limited forms of personal transportation have reemerged, such as small runs of four-wheeled personal transports but those are still very few in number.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Air flight, once a common form of transportation before the war, has not yet emerged out of the post-atomic chaos. The national governments still run a few aircraft for important work and the military maintains a stock of usable aircraft to fly officials and relief and aid workers back and forth to important locations, but for the most part air travel is largely unheard of since the conflict. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Technology: [/SIZE][SIZE=12pt]Prior to the nuclear war, the people of Terrana were on the verge of interstellar flight and research was being done on Hyperspace drives. Technology was at a late Atomic, early Information stage and advancing rapidly. These advances include a planet-wide information, entertainment, and[/SIZE][SIZE=12pt] communications network referred to as the “Terranian Net” based around personal and public computer terminal use. With the collapse of society after the Second Great Terranian War, the people of Terrana reverted back to a pre-industrial, feudal standard in many places with a few nation-states maintaining some level of advanced technology. Forty years on, the people of Terrana are beginning to re-establish law and order and with it comes the reintroduction of more modern forms of technology. [/SIZE]

Spaceflight technology has been almost entirely abandoned although the League of Allied Nations and the Brotherhood of
Communalist Nations have launched several weather and survey satellites aboard primitive long range ballistic missiles to
begin to re-establish an orbital network. Before the war, Terranian nations were engaged in some limited forms of
interplanetary space flight. The most advanced Terranian interplanetary vessel was the LAN Triumphant, a vessel that
traveled between Terrana and the largest gas giant planet in its system, named “Da Xing,” meaning “Large Star”
in the Zhong-dianhuo language. The Triumphant was abandoned after its first voyage back to Terrana from Da Xing when
the war broke out between the League and the Brotherhood and is currently in high orbit of Terrana. A competing vessel
from the Brotherhood, the BSS Puteshestvennik [traveler] was in the final stages of completion in high
Terranian orbit when the war broke out as well. Both vessels are in stable high orbit of Terrana, although after forty years if
the vessels are to be reactivated they will be in desperate need of an overhaul. Both the Brotherhood and the League want to
return to their respective ships in the next few years and reactivate them to aid in the reconstruction of their home world.

[SIZE=12pt]History: [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Early History: [/SIZE][SIZE=12pt]The planet Terrana’s history is relatively well known to its inhabitants but totally unknown to the rest of the galaxy. It was settled around 30,000 years ago by colonists from the planet Notron, now known as Coruscant, aboard a large sleeper vessel that kept some 10,000 colonists in suspended animation for centuries until the ship arrived in orbit of Terrana, many lightyears off course. Unfortunately, a computer error ended with the ship crash landing on the Eastern Continent of Terrana. The suspended animation control systems managed to survive the crash along with the hull of the ship, but its navigational and communications equipment were lost. When the colonists awoke, they found that their ship had taken them well away from their intended target in what we know today as Wild Space, and brought them to this planet instead. They originally named it New Notron due to its temperate environment. A dispute among the ranking members of the colonists’ designated high council ended with most of the ten thousand splintering off into groups identifying with the various leaders. In Terranian mythology, this is known as the “Exodus and Great Schism.” These events have been lost to history for the Terranian people and are now only myths. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Image of The Arrival: http://smpritchard.deviantart.com/art/Ad-Astra-Incrementis-252079988[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]The groups ended up migrating all around the Eastern Continent. Within a few hundred years, they had lost or abandoned their advanced technology and returned to a simpler hunter-gatherer lifestyle. By around 3000BBY, some of the hunter-gatherer groups had begun to coalesce into primitive city-states based around agriculture. Along with that, several of the groups had adopted or created new languages out of what was once known as Coruscanti Basic, now Galactic Basic, while several others maintained it as their primary language. After three thousand years, around 0BBY they had solidified into several large competing nation-states and had advanced to roughly Dark Ages technology. During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems maintained a small listening post and base on one of the moons of Da Xing. The listening post and base were abandoned in 20BBY due to its distance from the frontlines and lack of Republic presence in the area, and also because of the extremely primitive status of the planet of Terrana. Some Confederate generals advocated using the Terranian people as slave labor, but decided against it because of the distance to the nearest CIS outposts and factories. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Colonization of the Western and Southern Continent, Rise of Representative Government, Industrialization[/SIZE][SIZE=12pt]: Around 300ABY, the various nation-states of the Eastern Continent had begun sailing vessels on increasingly longer voyages. Eventually, the Western and Southern continents were discovered and settled. By around 500ABY a political enlightenment emerged where new ideas about representative government swept through Terranian society. The Western and Southern Continents underwent political revolution and established themselves as independent nation-states. Several of the southern, Latinus language speaking nations also experienced revolutions as well and established representative, republican governments. By 600ABY, Terranian society had begun to engage in primitive industrialization in all of the major nation-states. Within a hundred years, Terranian society and government had been totally changed by these experiences and by 700ABY the major nation-states had begun fighting amongst each other in small conflicts. In 710ABY, a political revolution sweeps through several of the larger nation-states on the Eastern Continent. Calling itself “Communalism,” it advocates communal ownership of factories and land, the destruction of all forms of titled nobility that existed on Terrana, and the dissolution of all national borders and boundaries. The nations of Zhong and Rania felt the effects strongest when their national governments, nominally imperial governments with a ruling monarch and nobility but with representative parliaments of varying power, fell to supporters of the Communalist model. Several smaller nations in the region experienced Communalist revolutions as well and saw their governments replaced with Communalist forms. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Romanticized image from the Communalist Revolution: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_Leading_the_People#mediaviewer/File:Eug%C3%A8ne_Delacroix_-_La_libert%C3%A9_guidant_le_peuple.jpg[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]In 715ABY, the Communalists formed an international league, the Brotherhood of Communalist Nations, to support one another in their struggle to build a Communalist society. In 720ABY, the First Great Terranian War broke out between the Brotherhood and the recently founded League of Allied Nations, a loose alliance of representative and imperial governments tied together through common markets and a dislike of the Communalist government model. The war lasted for nine years and came to a close in 729ABY with a stalemate. Over the next sixty-five years, the two sides poured money and resources into technological development. Terrania was transformed into a series of megalopolises and huge cities, along with a massive, sprawling industrial base to match. By 780ABY, the two sides had begun to explore their solar system, building two large interplanetary vessels to travel to their neighboring worlds. In 790ABY, both Brotherhood and League scientists began researching early Hyperdrive technology and were hopeful that within two decades it would produce a working Hyperdrive reactor and engine. However, it was not to be. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Second Great Terranian War and the End of The World (As They Knew It)[/SIZE][SIZE=12pt]:[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]In 792ABY, a diplomatic spat between the Brotherhood and League governments erupted into a general war once again. Huge battles were fought between the two sides that again found themselves in a stalemate. Nuclear technology had been developed in 750ABY by both sides and was quickly turned into weapons of war. Massive nuclear arsenals were constructed and tens of thousands of nuclear and thermonuclear weapons were constructed and stockpiled to ensure that neither side would use them in any conflict. By 795ABY, both sides had begun to exhaust their manpower pools and were experiencing societal fatigue at the ever-increasing amounts of bloodshed. Between 795 and 796ABY, both the Brotherhood and the League experienced massive societal unrest, including anti-war protests in major cities, refusals to join the military by large portions of the population (both sides at this point had begun drafting large segments of the population, male and female, into their militaries), and economic disruptions. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Image from the first use of nuclear weapons: http://tankhawk500.deviantart.com/art/Frontlines-Third-World-War-129486392[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]In 796ABY, a Brotherhood commander fighting in the Central-Southeastern section of the Eastern Continent decided to use a single nuclear warhead to break up a League armored advance. The League responded in kind. Within days, the League launched a massive attack against the Brotherhood’s front lines on several fronts. This strained the Brotherhood’s supplies and armies to their limits. The Brotherhood resorted to using nuclear weapons to try and stem the League’s advance. When the League responded with more weapons, a Brotherhood radar station picked up a stray ancient CIS probe droid entering the atmosphere (left over from the Clone Wars), they mistook it to be an intercontinental ballistic missile launched by the League to strike the Brotherhood. A full retaliatory nuclear strike was launched. The League picked up this launch and responded. Over five thousand megatons were launched by both the Brotherhood and the League against each other. [SIZE=12pt]In the space of two hours, the League and the Brotherhood killed nearly a billion people on Terrana and leveled most of the major cities. A few larger cities survived on the Southern Continent as well as the Eastern and Western Continents, but Terranian society was devastated. An additional two billion people died in the following five years from disease, famine, radiation sickness, and a host of other reasons directly and indirectly related to the nuclear exchange. A nuclear winter settled in across the planet that lasted years and killed millions more from famine and disease. Most of the major governments dissolved when their leadership was killed during the attacks. The few surviving national governments spent the next three decades trying to put the pieces back together of their shattered world. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]A View From Hell: http://emilisb.deviantart.com/art/Nuclear-Winter-325723998[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]By 817ABY, some of the surviving League governments came together and reformed the League of Allied Powers after two decades of reconstruction and relief work. The Brotherhood of Communalist Nations was reformed in 819ABY after radio communications were re-established across some areas of Terrana. By 830ABY, both the Brotherhood and League had met on the Southern Continent in order to negotiate a formal end to any lingering hostilities. All of the leaders present agreed that neither side would ever again engage in war against the other and agreed to a formal treaty of recognition and respect for one another. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]In a last, and the greatest of their diplomatic agreements at the meeting in 830ABY was a decision to create a formal diplomatic organization for the governments of Terrana to meet and hold annual dialogues in hopes of lessening international tensions that might emerge at some future date and create a forum for hearing new ideas about international development. The organization is to meet for the first time this year and is to be called the “Union of Sovereign Terranian States.” [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]As of 837ABY, the peoples of Terrana are struggling to regain what they have lost. Reconstruction efforts are ongoing across most of Terrana. The atmosphere has mostly been cleansed of the radioactive fallout and the particulate matter from the nuclear exchange. However, the planet’s ozone layer is still largely depleted from the war and as a result many different kinds of cancer are quite common. Most of the large cities destroyed during the war have yet to be rebuilt and several are still too irradiated to even be inhabited for many more years. The Terranians are in need of outside help if they are to rebuild their society any time soon. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Intent:[/SIZE][SIZE=12pt] The creation of a new planet for Wan Min Brightsky to explore and to create a new interstellar company/humanitarian relief organization around the effort to rebuild Terrana after its catastrophic global thermonuclear war. Also to create a new planet where PCs can explore and help rebuild. [/SIZE]

Okay, for some god forsaken reason it is screwing up the formatting. If a mod could check that out and tell me why in the transfer from MS Word to the forum it decided to not format correctly and change from Times New Roman to New Courier in the font!? I would fiddle with it, but it's almost 12:30AM here and I'm on the verge of falling asleep...
