Description: While the Telum-class was a success in the early days of the Protectorate, when resources were thin and the new galactic power could ill-afford to field more massive ships, as time progressed and new designs were pushed into service, the Telum-class could not keep up. Rather than draw up plans for a new ship from scratch, the Telum was taken back to the drawing board. Looking to the fleet support role, the Protectorate had the very massive Belsar-class Command Carrier to field wings of fighter craft at a time and the mid-weight Incus-class provided for fighters to be transported, there was no option for light fleet support. Thus, the Mark II was born.
Rather than gut the ship to add hanger space, the ingenious solution was thought of to add to the superstructure. Borrowing heavily from the general shape of the old Nebulon B, the Mark II achieved its new status as a pocket carrier from the additions to its forward and aft sections. The additions came at the cost of the ship's previous capital ship firepower. However, the increased power reserves were shunted to the engines and to the anti-starfighter weaponry. With an emphasis on staying out of a fight, the Telum Mk II has two long-range ion cannons to allow it to support fleet operations and disable would-be aggressors while a mix of quad laser and flak cannons give the ship considerable anti-starfighter capabilities.
