Heavy version of the Tearstunner crowd control bomb

Image Source: Wikipedia Mk 84 bomb picture
Intent: To provide a bomb capable of large-scale crowd control
Development Thread: If necessary
Manufacturer: Ringovinda Systems
Model: Mk 1-3 Tearstunner crowd control bomb
Affiliation: Open market
Modularity: Yes, can modify the payload to suit the needs of chemical or biological warfare if necessary
Production: Mass-Produced.
Material: Tritonal, plastoids, tear gas, Bothan stun spores
Classification: Crowd control bomb
Size: Starfighter-mounted
Length: 1m (light version) - 2.60m (medium version) - 3.80 m (heavy version)
Diameter: 155 mm (light version) - 310 mm (medium version) - 533 mm (heavy version)
Weight: 30kg (light version) - 300 kg (medium version) - 1,000 kg (heavy version)
Ammunition Type: Gas canister
Ammunition Capacity: 1
Effective Range: Starfighter-mounted proton bomb standard
Rate of Fire: Single action
Special Features:
- Can stun everyone in its blast radius
Strengths:

- Able to stun large groups of people at once

Weaknesses:

- Fast cook-off time due to the plastoid shells (i.e. must be stored away from flames and heat)
- Very little potential for material damage except close to the detonation point
- Medium and heavy versions must be externally mounted if used on most starfighters and are thus exposed

Description: This weapon was designed with crowd control in mind. Because gunpowder is a low explosive and is useless in creating big blast radiuses past a certain point, this unit is equipped with tritonal as its dispersal charge. Unlike most starfighter-mounted ordnance, the crowd control bomb has a plastoid casing to reduce shrapnel damage upon detonation. Once it detonates, it releases two gases at once into the air: the Bothan stun spores would knock out (but, combined with the explosive charge, can prove to be deadly in confined spaces) organics without a rebreather system. The second of these is the tear gas, which is an irritant for organics with unprotected eyes and skin.

Of course, blast radius depends on the version in use: the light version has a blast radius of 40 meters, the medium version has a blast radius of about 100 meters and the heavy version has a blast radius of 250 meters. If someone survives close to the detonation point, a person can be incapacitated for six hours, but at the edge of the blast radius, the person will be out of commission for about 10-20 minutes.

Stun bombs are one thing. There's all kinds of knockout ordnance in canon, at scales comparable to this or even larger. That's fine. But on concept, we've got a bit of work to do.

  • What exactly is tritonal? I'm not seeing it on Wook or IRL. From context, I assume it's some kind of explosive. Do you expect it to do anything special?
  • Ixetal cilona is a drug. Weaponized ixetal cilona is especially potent, ergo especially expensive. I know of one time it was mass-produced, and that was for a small handheld munition with a 26-post dev thread. I'm also seeing an ixetal cilona bomb that was made at minor production with 40 posts of dev. Its effects are also much less profound than yours; it has more reasonable and canon-consistent limitations.
So here's what needs to happen:

WITH DEV:

  • Clarify the limitations of ixetal cilona to a satisfactory degree. (No, one exposure won't make everyone a drug addict; no, simply being in the blast radius won't instantly and totally remove Force abilities. More detail is required, including things like breathing and duration of effect.)
  • Do 15 posts of dev for semi-unique production, 25 posts of dev for limited production, or 40 posts of dev for minor production. Sorry to be a hardass, but I'm not going to stamp this at mass production. Ixetal cilona is just too expensive a working material (and too easily misunderstood and abused), especially for a tier 2 corporation without major faction backing specific to the project.

WITHOUT DEV:
  • Remove the ixetal cilona entirely.

There, no ixetal cilona anymore; just regular stunning tear gases and Bothan spores. More detail about how long the stunning takes effect has been provided.

There is only a small amount of tritonal in the dispersal charge: more tritonal and it would be used more like a proton bomb would be.

Tritonal is used in real-world air-dropped bombs like the MK80 series (the Mk84, which is the closest thing to the heavy casing showcased here, has 429 kg of tritonal out of a total ~930 kg mass; with that amount of tritonal it can cause lethal fragmentation in a 350-meter radius)
