Description:
Maybe it was due to the events he'd participated in since joining the Silver Jedi, but Audren decided that he needed something more in terms of clothing. Normal Jedi robes simply didn't provide enough protection, and full-on armor wasn't good form for many of the traditional Jedi roles. In essence, the Padawan needed something that acted like armor but looked like normal robes.

The basic underlayer for most armors was some kind of armorweave. It was capable of dissipating blaster bolts and had a limited resistance to lightsabers. And if it was formed right, it could look like a normal cloth. As important as the cloth was however, the metal was the real key. Cortosis, phrik, or impervium were his first choices: they were well-known for their lightsaber resistance. However, they were also very difficult to come by. He had to settle for more common materials. Duraplast was regularly used in armor and duranium was a very hard and light metal. Both had known resistance to lightsabers. Minor, but it was present.

Audren was able to use some of the talent found on Voss. A skilled smith made a fine mesh of linked duraplast and duranium rings, and he collaborated with a tailor accustomed to creating Jedi robes. The duraplast was heavier than the duranium, but provided a higher level of protection. Offsetting the mail links allowed the fine armor to be light with some decent protection. By sandwiching the mail between two layers of armorweave - the smith had called the result a jazerant - he had a fairly well-concealed armor. Unless someone used a metal detector, of course.

The concealability came with a tradeoff: protection. The smith warned Audren that the armored robes would really only be good against glancing lightsaber strikes and blaster bolts. A direct hit could still do considerable damage both to the wearer and the armor itself, but having the armor might make survival more likely. Of course, the mail would turn a non-energy blade much more effectively. Additionally, to reduce overall weight, only the torso and pants contained the mail. Shaped plates of duraplast made spaulders (shoulder) as well as elbow and knee plates to protect more essential joints, while gauntlets used both mail and shaped plates to provide defense and wrist articulation. All metal was tinted to match or complement the fabric color. Just because he could, Audren had the smith add hardpoints add hardpoints to attach items such as arm-based computer to either gauntlet.
