Character Talyr Ivaakren

Talyr Ivaakren

Selonian Outcast and Eccentric Thief
(I can't find much in the way of consistent, reliable sources for what I have in mind for this girl, but here's a few images anyway. I'll try to give you guys the best descriptions I can manage so you all have plenty to work with. Thus far, the last picture is one of the better ones you can reference, as well as her avatar. For now, she's still a work in progress.)

NOTE: I know Selonians are technically based on otters, but some of the art always reminded me of weasels or ferrets, so I hope you all don't mind my going with that interpretation... After all, I've seen Shistavanens rendered in the form of anthro wolves with more humanoid-looking legs before and it can be made to work without modifying the base species too much... Why not take the liberty with some of the less commonly used species and do some tweaking, so long as the base lore is respected? Even then, "ferret" doesn't deviate too much from some of the official artwork.

NOTE: I know its the epitome of stubbornness, but I refuse to RP in anything related to the Mouse's episodes VII-IX, due to the fact that there's no proper worldbuilding or even basic in-universe history in any way, shape or form (as of 2018). EU and the occasional fanon only for me.

Name: Talyr Ivaakren

Faction: Somewhat independent, though she has been known to work for both sides as clandestinely as she can manage to during any particular conflict she might take an interest in. She currently hopes to prove her worth to the Corellian Confederation for a stable home.

Rank: Formerly a Second Stripe Reconnaissance Scout of the Van'Laaftr Tribe of Selonia (second from the bottom) - no longer applicable.

Species: Selonian

Age: 20

Sex: Female

Height: 5'7

Weight: 97 lbs.

Build: Petite, athletic and slender

Eyes: Heterochromatic - right silver, left emerald green.

Hair: Red

Fur color: Blue-gray - think along the shade of a Russian Blue.

Force Sensitivity: No

Occupation: Disgraced former Second Stripe Van'Laaftr Tribe scout and sniper, currently an occasional cartographer-for-hire and a "moral" thief who targets corrupt individuals.

Strengths:

Strategist: Having passed the initial training necessary for the Van'Laaftr Tribe Army, this occasionally clumsy and somewhat lazy woman has always been more of a thinker then a doer. Due to a natural scholarly inclination, coupled with occasional fits of paranoia, this Selonian's brain is constantly analyzing her surroundings for threats and can easily map any environment she might be in for anything that might serve to give her an advantage, especially when leaving becomes necessary.

Accomplished Sniper: Despite not being good at much of anything, as well as her being a cutpurse who prefers not to fight, Talyr can prove to be consistently calm, methodical and accurate with a sniper rifle, when absolutely necessary.

Agile: While occasionally prone to falling on her scrawny butt, Talyr is nonetheless one flexible Selonian, when one factors in the combination of her noodle-like body, youthful vigor, lanky limbs and military training.

Cybernetic Left Hand: A few years ago, during a practical joke in which her sadistic sept-sisters tied her up and left one hand forced into the repulsor of a military grade swoop bike before igniting the engine, Talyr lost one hand due to irreparable tissue damage, necessitating the amputation of the ruined stub and the issuing of a cybernetic replacement, which has since then been outfitted with a scramble key (electronic lockbreaker) and a curved, short, retractable vibrodagger perfect for adding potentially lethal damage to a well-aimed punch.

Stealthy: Being somewhat shorter then most other Selonians, as well as due to her lanky form and thin limbs, this agile woman can easily slip into places where she's not supposed to be to take stock of anything that might potentially be valuable...

Practiced Thief: From shimmying her noodle-like form down a chimney to sucker punching a youngling molester to loot his unconscious body, Talyr has proven to be a very cunning, strategic cutpurse and an accomplished burglar. While running with an upright Mon Calamari's associates upon hearing of their plans to target a known Gamorrean rapist, she even once managed to chew through the ankle tendon on that very Gamorrean while her temporary companions lit him on fire; leaving her to escape with his datapad and seventeen thousand credits. Unfortunately, the information she had been given for that target was false, and she unknowingly aided in the attack and looting of an innocent on that day...

Scout and Survivalist: A few years of field work as an Reconnaissance Scout , even as an all-around social failure, taught Talyr enough basics to be able to survive in harsh environments, be they urban, wilderness, or anything in between.

Weaknesses:

Lisp: Talyr hisses her "S's" unintentionally; this fact, coupled with the occasional spray of saliva, tends to annoy other sentients and can lead to her being used for accordion practice by larger and more powerful aliens.

Cowardly, Opportunistic Fighter: While not outright useless in a fight, her being a lazy introvert of nearly pure thought rather then action means that Talyr prefers a successful, clandestine heist over a firefight. When faced with fights where she has been unable to plan out a method for a battle, the Selonian prefers to run when at all possible or strike from cover if it can be found and when running isn't an option, making her a less-then-reliable ally during unplanned encounters.

Clumsy: Some people are just prone to falling on their own butts more often then others - a universally applicable trait - regardless of their species of origin. See Talyr's character icon for an approximate example.

Social Ineptitude: Those who think for too long without interaction during the earliest stages of development, as well as those who fail to integrate socially, inevitably suffer for it later on in their lives, and Talyr is a prime example of what neglect and lack of integration can do to one.

Appearance: A short, slim, flat-chested and athletic young woman covered in exotic, beautiful blue-gray hair, this red-eyed Selonian wears her brown headfur either short or tied back in a ponytail for convenience. Form-fitting pants of various makes and origins have shielded her scrawny backside from many and varied falls all throughout her life, in addition to attracting males of various species when it was necessary to accentuate her features and due her having a flat, boyish chest - those same men were easier to steal from when caught in the throes of their own lust over her... Assets. Seasonal basic clothing, usually a size or two too large or small may cover her at any point in her travels and serve as a temporary disguise or as a convenience against any encumbering weather, to be discarded at a later date, as it was easiest to travel light and replace clothes as soon as they wore down. The only consistent article the Selonian has kept has been a Bantha-Leather jacket affiliated with a Bespin-based gang of Gran and Quarren who have proven themselves to be a reliable source of "honorable thief"-oriented work and information, a pair of worn gray boots gifted to her by a Gand Findsman, made from the skin of a particularly vile Hutt, and a fiery orange crystal hanging from a thong around her neck. Her tail constantly twitches to and fro, as though agitated, and a rounded pair of reading glasses hang over her thin, weasel-like snout.

Biography: Across the galaxy and transcending the barriers of every species, it would seem that some people are lazy or incompetent, and despite whatever intelligence they might have, other elements factor in to enable that these sorts remain unknown and unaccomplished in any way. Despite her being more intelligent then most realize, a lack of social skills, combined with the aforementioned laziness and occasional incompetence, can be found in spades in the short and uneventful lifespan (thus far) of the Selonian failure named Talyr Ivaakren, who has been cast out of her den for roughly three years now...

Born a little over twenty years ago to a rather prosperous Den Mother of the Van'Laaftr Tribe, the Selonian known as Talyr was the second weakest of her entire sept (a group of infertile females sharing the same Den Mother and Father, with other septs being composed of half-sisters via a different male) and, despite some weaknesses in her eyes, was able to grow healthily alongside her sept-sisters. Talyr soon developed an insatiable appetite for knowledge merely for its own sake, learning Basic easily as a second language before her sixth year from her Sire, one W'Veltho Ivaakren, a second-class citizen involved in a passionate romance with an exiled Chiss female. These sessions with her Sire were looked upon fondly as she aged, and her dedication to her mind was fostered all the more even as she trained to become a warrior alongside her sept-sisters over the years.

Despite her aforementioned eager mind, that very fact, combined with Talyr's shy personality and lack of interest in the social culture of the warrior females ensured that she would be a constant victim of bullying over the years, one incident nearly a year before she began her final phase of elite training to become a Reconnaissance Scout even resulted in the loss of her left hand when it was burned away in the repulsor of a military-grade swoop bike, after which she got her cybernetic replacement. Her Father, his Chiss lover and an occasionally-visiting Gand Findsman continued to counsel the now-teenaged, slightly paranoid and deeply lonely Selonian girl, even as her training continued, revealing her to be only a mildly-competent soldier, barely passing her every mark as it was given to her, though the Selonian showed slight potential as a strategist and was gifted with an unnatural calm and precision that lent itself to the use of a sniper rifle. However, despite a gifted brain and knowledge of tactics, a lack of charisma, occasionally falling asleep on sentry duty and being verbally abrasive towards her sept-sisters when they interrupted her personal reading time did little to help her fit in socially.

Unfortunately, it was several years into this period of her life when Talyr's clumsiness combined with stage fright led to a tragedy which resulted in a sentence of public mockery followed by exile, with the entire tribe of Van'Laaftr witnessing the event. With the entirety of her sept lined up with her and with the Den Mother standing on the steps above, her fellow scouts and she were engaged in a complex series of twirls, pivots and flourishes with their ceremonial glaives. Nervous and with her heart pounding, a harsh order from her Unit Commander startled her mid-flourish, and the blade of her glaive easily severed her Commander's foot at the ankle; fumbling through the remainder of the flourish, Talyr lost her grip and the glaive flew upwards and diagonally, seemingly of it's own will, the hook tearing open the Den Mother on the steps above, disemboweling her with ease, to the horror of the assembled Van'Laaftr Tribe...

Talyr never saw her Father again, and didn't see W'Veltho pressing his face into his palms, weeping in despair over the daughter he had grown close to, in spite of their species' customs, become a disgraceful failure over the matter of a few seconds, his visage lost in the crowd of startled, weeping and vengeful Selonians calling for punishment, even after they learned within the hour that their Den Mother would survive... After years of consistent minimal effort, clumsiness and failing to socially integrate, the Van'Laaftr Tribe had at last had enough.

What followed was hasty and, in the eyes of most of the Tribe, eventually laughable, but a mere three days later, at the tender age of seventeen, that Talyr Ivaakren "for the good of all of the Van'Laaftr Tribe" was sentenced to exile from her home along the Western Shores of Ga'L'Ho-wan Island. Bartering passage from Selonia with the Gand Findsman she had befriended four years earlier and with little desire of ever returning, even despite the pain of missing her Sire, led Talyr to Bespin's Cloud City, and a fateful meeting with an "honorable" Gran thief whom she saved from a sadistic Bespin Guard Commander, soon set a new course for her life...
