SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Unlike conventional datapads that make use of a glass, liquid crystal, or plastic screen, the Taliesin Datapad makes use of solid-state, or hardlight, hologram technology to project an interactable screen and touch interface for users. This allows the device to be stored much easier compared to bulkier standard devices as only a small alusteel casing containing the projector and other components such as the power cell, memory storage, and Holonet receiver is needed.
STRENGTHS
  • The Taliesin Datapad makes use of solid-state holograms, or hardlight, to generate the screen and touch interface for the user. With its power provided by a Sianteria power cell, charging the device is also never truly needed.
  • Extremely lightweight, almost weightless, and incredibly small for ease of storage compared to most any other model on the market. As the marketing states for the Taliesin, it is truly pocket-size.
  • The Taliesin is extremely customizable depending on user preference and organizational needs, with multiple accessibility options available for different species and other needs.
WEAKNESSES
  • Designed as a civilian device mainly, the Taliesin is not hardened against things like ion weaponry or an EMP. As a standard device, it's going to get knocked out of commissioned and need replaced.
  • While the casing is made from alusteel, the Taliesin isn't exactly designed for rough handling given the delicate nature of its systems. Aurora Industries recommends taking care of the device and not throwing it around to prevent any internal damages or misalignments from occurring.
DESCRIPTION

While Aurora Industries was not regarded as a producer of consumer electronics, as part of an initiative established by COO Merryn Sellek, the company began exploring the development of a new datapad for the mass consumer market as a means of branching into other industries besides its core military-industrial operations. The datapad that would become the Taliesin had begun development internally at Aurora initially as a cost-saving mechanism by replacing outsourced datapads from legacy companies like MicroData Technologies with their own device, but with the new initiative, the device was greenlit for market development.

The Taliesin, unlike most any other datapad on the market besides the Hermes Holopad developed by Andromeda Electronics, did not utilize a traditional screen medium such as glass, plastic, or liquid displays. Like the Hermes, it utilized holographic technology to create the screen and interface, although unlike its competitor, it utilized solid-state holograms or hardlight to do so. The interface was fully customizable to the user's preference, in terms of color, size, and so on as the company believed catering to as many configurations and accessibility options was a must within the market. A premium was also placed on size scaling for the device's projector and other needed components such as the power cell and memory, with the eventual casing being able to fit comfortably within a pocket.
