Taking Away The Pain (Healing Workshop)

Location: Outside the Ossus Jedi Temple

This had to be one of the craziest things I've ever had to do for the Council, Teynara thought, mobilising her hoverchair to supervise the setup of one of the bright pavilion tent that the workshops were due to be hosted in. Hers was an odd green colour, trimmed with small white stripes, and frankly looked absurd. The Council's never made a habit of engaging in odd forms of showmanship before, so this was an interesting choice, the blonde woman reflected. That part she could get behind, but as for the rest of it...well, it would have been easier working back at the Temple on Voss.

For one thing, she'd had to have a good deal of basic medical equipment shipped out from inside the Ossus Temple grounds in order to be able to use it during the exercises she had in mind. She'd settled for several portable therapy beds over the usual fixed medical beds that were used in the Medibay both here and on Ossus, but some of the equipment simply wasn't so easily substituted: the Doppraymagno Scanner had needed to be shipped out, along with a sizeable number of portable medikits that could be issued to the students in attendance. Not to mention that there was absolutely no way we'd be able to sterilise this place without some serious hardware.

So, she'd had to settle for less, and hoped to find a way around it.

Since they had a full day of exercises planned, the young woman had a lot of different ideas in mind: though she'd initially just intended to pass on her understanding of the Voss Healing Rituals, her class planning had...well, okay, she'd had a little too much Stimcaf and ended up coming up with enough bits and pieces to start off a trainee Healer with enough material to last them a few months. Condense that down into a day, and they might walk away with a headache, Teynara thought wryly.

As it was, the blonde had a feeling that she'd just have to give basic instructions and then offer one-to-one or group training back on Voss to follow up, to allow for the students in attendance to progress further in the Healing Arts if they wished. Yet they all come in wanting to be able to heal serious combat injuries in the space of a few minutes, she reflected, rolling her eyes. There were even Masters who thought that was how it worked. They had no idea...

The Pavilion was up, and now the equipment was all being moved inside, as per her instructions earlier. It annoyed her that she couldn't help with such preparations, and instead had needed to request the assistance of a few students to move and set things up - she'd be able to move a medipac or two, but that was about the extent of it, and with her hoverchair, she was more likely to be a hindrance, so the best that the young woman could do was tell the others how to proceed and then stay out of the way. At least until the teaching starts, she mused with a smile. They might want my help for that part.

Efficient as they were, the setup was done within the space of an hour, and it was not yet time for things to get started. Good, she thought, taking a sip from the small flask of Stimcaf she had with her. Means we don't need to get started right away. She wasn't in any rush: observing some of the chaos around her at this odd 'Jedi Fair' was proving to be rather entertaining thus far. Hopefully she would get chance to see some of what was going on herself, once the classes took a break.

The Nautolan teen had come in with an H-Wing ambulance.

To be totally honest, he wasn't all that interested in the workshop. Unless it was something to do with lightsabers. If [member="Thurion Heavenshield"] or [member="Connor Harrison"] wanted to give some classes about how to throw down, the teen would have been first in line. But, until that happened, he was content to be part of the security and safety monitors that were going around. Just in case someone got carried away or hurt themselves.

He was clad in his usual jet robes, with an emergency medical technician's medpac over one shoulder. Riptide, the curved Makashi style lightsaber hilt, hung off his belt at his left hip, and a brightly colored wristlink was keyed to the comm channels used by the temple guards.

As he made his way through the Jedi fair, it was the green that caught his attention.

For starters, it was his favorite color.

Second of all, was that a hoverchair?

His interest piqued, the young paramedic made his way through the crowd of Jedi to enter inside of the green-and-white tent. And, indeed, there was a blonde woman in a hoverchair. "Sup," the teen supplied in greeting, a casual wave accompanying his usual salutation.

As the Nautolan's black eyes looked around the tent, he found he recognized the equipment present. Medkits. Scanners. Therapy beds...

"Astral," the teen chirped brightly, his head-tails perking up at the realization that this was some sort of MedCenter fair. "You need any help setting up?" the boy inquired, turning his attention back to the woman in the chair.

For once, Aria's spirits were high and her smile infectiously bright. She was genuinely excited at the prospect at a full day of learning, and in particular the skill that she was keen for the opportunity to learn was healing. Despite how irrefutably useful the power was, Aria had never properly honed the skill because of how far it was from her preferred area - combat, stealth and infiltration - but given there was a designated lesson that morning, Aria felt she could no longer procrastinate.

Thus, she was at the Temple bright and early, finding the correct room just as a blonde Knight set up the lesson with the help of an unfamiliar Nautolan. She took a second to be impressed at how well the apparent instructor had set up the room before fixing her smile back on and turning to said Knight.

"Hey," she said, cautious but still cheerful, "Uh..I'm here for the lesson. Nice to meet you."

It was a rare opportunity for the Shi'ido to be given the chance at learning. The past few years had seen the Jedi Master involve her self in many lessons and practical work however she had always been leading these events or filling the role of instructor. It felt slightly nostalgic knowing that she was the student this time around. Entering the newly erected pavilion, Rasu took a moment to identify the group she was after, heading their way after spotting several familiar faces.

The art of healing had always escaped the aging Shi'ido, however she could not deny that it would become one of her most essential skills. In her mind it would be paramount for all Jedi, in fact all beings, to be raised with some knowledge of the art before progressing, however this was not how life worked. She had grappled with lessons earlier in her career, yet now was the time she chose to fully immerse herself in study.

Offering a welcoming smile, Rasu joined the group, led by the woman seated in a hover chair.

"I hope you don't mind if I join as well?" she asked. She couldn't help but admit, she was rather looking forward to this experience.

This certainly was a change from sterile hospital walls.

After spending years in medical school, countless nights pouring over wordy texts and following around attending physicians like a puppy, Lukas Krieger finally earned the title Dr. Krieger. His ascendency to a real life medical professional was marked by the discovery of his Force sensitivity, which was good news. There were stories of famous healers able to work miracles with the Force that even the most experienced surgeon could not perform, and Lukas was eager to harness his newfound ability. This whole Jedi thing? Just a formality.

Still, he couldn’t help but feel like a first year resident—or even an intern—in his Padawan robes. They were brand new, stiff and spoke of his inexperience. Lukas felt far more comfortable in a white labcoat.

Pulling back the tent flap, his eyes lit up upon seeing the array of equipment laid out—scanners and medkits—he could almost faint! Feeling a sudden surge of confidence that he was more in his element, the young man stepped forward to the hoverchair bound blonde in charge. “Advanced Rescue Artesia Medkits. Good choice.” No words of greeting, no offering of his name. Lukas was not knowns for his flowery disposition or pleasant features. He’d made children cry on more than one occasion.

With a grunt of approval, Lukas stepped back and finally took the time to silently observe the others that had gathered—a Nautolan teenager, a young human woman, and what looked to be a Mirialan woman.

Teynara blinked, momentary confused by the young Nautolan that had accosted her ahead of the others. Sup? Is he asking me to dinner? She'd never found herself addressed in that way before, and she honestly didn't know what to say to that. Besides, it's far too early in the morning for anything other than Stimcaf. The young woman pushed the thought to the back of her mind, simply offering her own greeting with a perfunctory bow of the head, as close as she could come to the fuller gesture that was traditional between the Jedi.

"I think we're just about set up here, thank you," she responded with a smile of gratitude for the question that had followed that odd greeting. The Padawans that had accompanied her in order to assist with preparations had been exceedingly thorough: not surprising, since most of them were on duty rotation with the Healers of the Ossus Temple. They knew their business. "Are you here to join in the lesson, or just be helpful?", the blonde inquired, wondering at the Nautolan's purpose.

Others arrived in rapid succession: a Human girl younger than Teynara, her hair considerably darker and probably a little easier to manage (which was an odd thought for a first impression, but Tey was long used to the amusing eccentricity of the way her own mind work); following her was a green-skinned Mirialan, Jedi Master Rasu Gan, someone Teynara knew of mostly by reputation, but could easily identify on sight: she was fairly difficult to miss! Finally, a new face, a male far taller than any of the others in the room, probably Human, though it was difficult to be certain - plenty of near-Humans looked so very much like the more common species by outward appearance.

His entrance was a little more muted than that of the others, who had offered polite greetings and clearly expressed some enthusiasm. This one, though...he had simply wandered in and presented an appraising look throughout the pavilion, narrowed brown eyes taking in the equipment and failing entirely to note the people within, as though they were of less interest to him than the array of things that had been carefully placed within the tent. Teynara couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at that - very curious behaviour, and something she'd delve into later.

"Welcome, all of you," she said, turning her attention the present moment. "I hope you'll excuse the mess: I don't normally teach outdoors," the blonde woman added with an amused smile. "But it's not a bad place to work on some basic field medicine, since you're not exactly going to be working with sterile conditions in a lab full of equipment when you're out in the field," the Healer continued. "Before we begin, I should mention: my name's Teynara, but I'm fine with Tey. Anybody going rank first is going be glared at," she observed calmly, her smile widening for a moment.

Her hoverchair moved further inside, where a small series of cushioned seats had been placed in a semi-circular formation, slightly removed from the equipment, giving them a place they could talk and discuss and have somewhere to sit while practising. A casual hand gesture indicated that each of those present should occupy one - one of the benefits of Teynara's disability was that she was always sat down, so she didn't need to worry about finding an empty seat for herself.

"I have no idea where you're all at with respects to your training," Teynara observed as the others took a seat. "The plan is to go through a few techniques that you may or may not know, and hopefully together refine our understanding of some of the Healing arts," she continued, glancing at each of them in turn. "Do any of you have any former training from a Jedi Healer?"

"Are you here to join in the lesson, or just be helpful?"

The Nautolan brought a hand up to his chin as he mulled that question over. Both presented good options. For one thing, he liked healing. For another, he liked helping doctors. So it seemed like there were no bad choices either way he could go with it. Which, by this point, he was probably putting entirely too much thought into the question. But Zak wasn't the best at thinking to begin with, so anything requiring thought was going to take him a minute.

"Both?" the teen answered finally, looking back at the woman with his abyssal black eyes. He learned better when he was hands on, as opposed to just watching someone doing something. So he was likely to learn more if he was participating in a tactile manner.

At the question about prior training, the teen -- perhaps surprisingly -- raised his hand. "I studied under [member="Ilias Nytrau"] and [member="Maya Carrick"], and I've worked with Doctor [member="Cathbodua"]," the teen recalled aloud.

This was why the Force gave them two hands. One to smash Sith in the face with. Another to heal others with.

Which was why he was always interested in pursuing knowledge of how to refine his skill in Force Healing. Particularly in the field, because that's usually where Zak was called upon the most.

As the teacher and her group of students assembled, Aria listened to Teynara's introduction, glancing around as she took in the somewhat messy environment. Mess didn't really bother Aria until you couldn't find stuff, so the array of things surrounding her had failed to stand out.

Sitting down on a cushion at the Healer's indication, Aria racked her brains to try and think of a time when she'd used Healing at all. On occasion she used the Force to numb pain so she could continue fighting, but that was something else - she was fairly certain the name for it was Crucitorn. Not quite the same thing.

"I've not done any training in healing," she admitted after a moment, feeling slightly self-conscious. "But I've always meant to learn..."
