SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Combined the traits of a physical shield with an energy shield. The energy field enabled the user to deflect blasters, projectiles and shrapnel, but with little ability to deflect where said reflections go.
STRENGTHS
  • The wielder can use the shield as a weapon to bash an enemy or to shove them over so they can be finished off.
  • It is a large, sturdy shield that can be held in one hand, provides very good defence and thorough coverage. The power field enhances protection against blasters, projectiles and shrapnel.
WEAKNESSES
  • Heavy and bulky for a shield. This is its greatest weakness. Although it is difficult to penetrate with standard infantry weapons, any opponent who can get to the side or behind the wielder can strike before the shield-bearer can recover.
  • Heavy weapons can still crack or damage the shield. And while an attack might not damage the shield, kinetic impact can tear it from the wielder's hand or even cause it slam into her.
DESCRIPTION

The Taegis has been the Eldorai battle shield for centuries, only slightly improved on since the Kar'zun wars brought it to prominence. Today the shield is used primarily by the Angelii and elite infantry units. The shield itself is very heavy, especially for Eldorai, and is thus only entrusted to the best warriors. The Taegis Mk2 represents a modernisation of the old, venerable battle shield that has served the Eldorai so faithfully in many conflicts. Whereas the old Taegis was shaped like a kite shield, its newer incarnation is large rectangle curved shield. The face and rim is protected by a power field generated by protectors inside the shield. This energy field enabled the user to deflect blasters, projectiles and shrapnel, but with little ability to deflect where said reflections go.

The activation of the power field is controlled by a button near the wearer's hand grip. Replacing the power cells cannot be done in the field as it requires disassembly. In a long struggle this can leave the wielder in a situation where they run out of power. The shield's power can also be overloaded by too much firepower. The bottom of the shield can be rested on the ground or shield can be slung over the back of the wielder for carrying.

The shield is too heavy to be thrown around through sheer muscle. Thus imitating Captain Corellia is not possible. Its bulkiness and weight is its greatest weakness. Its ability to resist lightsabres is minor. With the power field on, it can withstand glancing blows and may be able to deflect one head on blow. But constant contact will short the shield out. The shield rim is particularly vulnerable, and on the whole the weapon is very bulky to defend against lightsabres with.
