ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:

 • Hangar-Optimized Design: The Syren-class Corvette is optimized to fit as many starfighters as physically possible into a corvette-sized ship, carrying not only a massive hangar, but dorsal and ventral ‘pockets’ with lifts to hold one squadron each of starfighters, using lifts and retracting doorways to move fighters to and from the main hangar for deployment. Each bay is fully accessible to crew allowing for maintenance and repairs even while they are stored away.

 • Redundant Communications: Communications security is absolutely crucial for a carrier to maintain, both with its fighter complement and other ships in its fleet. The Syren-class is equipped with multiple systems to ensure safe and encrypted communications, including the Freyja and Hydra Mesh Networking systems.

 • Defenses: While it lacks in armor, molecular shielding offers each ship significant protection from energy weapons, while a missile deactivation transmitter works to keep it safe from incoming missiles.
Weaknesses:

 • Fragile Construction: Armor isn’t the corvette’s best spot, and if its shields are bypassed or penetrated somehow, it won’t take many hits to tear it apart, especially as the hangar space and fighter pockets leave quite a bit of open space.

 • Slow: For a ship of its size the Syren-class is exceptionally slow and lumbering, making it a very easy target for starfighters and especially larger ships.

 • Limited Weaponry: Light turbolasers and ion cannons may be good defenses from incoming fighters, but serve poorly against larger, better defended ships, making it almost useless offensively and entirely reliant on escort ships to keep it protected from larger craft.

 • Short-Term Deployments: Due to the hangar and fighter bays taking up the large majority of the ship’s body, and the bridge, barracks, and various ship systems, there is limited space for much else, namely cargo and consumables. This severely limits the long-term deployment options for the ships, requiring them to resupply after a week or rely on dedicated transport ships in a fleet to keep them stocked.

Description:

With the allegiance between EODD and the SJO solidified, in addition to their primary market products EODD began producing ships and weapons directly for them. The Syren-class Corvette is another product designed for this, stripping down the speed and maneuverability typical of corvettes in order to supply more space to stuff as many starfighters into the craft as possible. Its extensive hangar space is a major feature, with the standard hangar capable of holding two squadrons of fighters all at once. In addition to this, both above and below the main hangar there are smaller auxiliary storage pockets capable of holding a squadron each, making its full total four, a significant amount compared to other starships of its size class. Each of these bays are fully accessible, allowing crew and pilots to work on the ships even when there is no space in the main hangar, and both have lifts designed to move the fighters from the bays to the hangar when space is available for launch.

Towards the rear of the ship there are barracks for use by both the crew and pilots, though it isn’t much more than bunks in a large room, with a dining hall beside. Due to the large amount of space taken up by the hangar there isn’t much room for cargo and consumables as well, with it carrying food and beverages to supply the crew and a full pilot complement for approximately one week before requiring resupply. Due to this the Syren-class is better suited for operations in a larger fleet, as materials can be transported from ship to ship as needed during longer deployments.

Weapon-wise the Syren-class is about as well-armed as a typical corvette, sporting several dual turbolaser and ion cannon turrets with a TAT system for self defense against starfighters, though neither of its main weapons are particularly effective against larger ships, again reiterating its optimal use in a fleet rather than on solo deployment. It’s much better armored than armed, however, carrying molecular shielding and missile deactivation transmitters in addition to several ECM options. It also benefits from its extensive fighter complement in that they can protect it when under attack.

Crew: 15
Passengers: Maximum 100 Starfighter Crew
Cargo Capacity: 300 Metric Tons
Consumables: 1 Week
