  • Prevents electrical/emp or ionic attacks from rampaging across an electronics system, shutting it down.
  • Can clear a system of electrical or ionic energy that would normally prevent it from functioning.
  • Can prevent short circuits from shutting down a system.

  • Blast Door: The implant has the ability to prevent electrical or ionic energy from travelling across a system, confining it to a small area so the rest of the system can continue to function.
  • Cleaner: Can scrub parts of the system of ionic or electrical energy, allowing it to keep functioning despite suffering attacks that are normally designed to take them down.

  • Shutdown: While the system can prevent electrical or ionic energy from running rampant through a system, that doesn't stop it from temporarily shutting down any systems hit till the energy can be cycled out of the system.
  • The bigger they are...the longer they take: While capable of protecting and clearing a system, the stronger an attack, the longer it can take.
  • Knock you out: The system depends on small implants spread across the electronics that need to be protected. However, any damage they take would result in the system rapidly losing it's efficiency.

It was the greatest fear of every cyborg, every user of power armour. The EMP, the Ion attack. that attack which will leave you vulnerable and helpless, unable to move, or use any of the systems which you rely on. So, the question Locke and Key Mechanics had to face was how to handle that?
The answer to this lay in the starships that plied the galaxy, the warships that often came under attack from those very ionized weapons John was attempting to protect his creations from.
The pre-existing Lornal Implant was designed to prevent surges of electrical current from travelling up into the brain, to protect the user from injury. However, there was nothing that specified that it had to only be used to protect the mind. a series of lLornal implants spread out over a set of cybernetics or armour would in effect have a similar effect to blast doors on a ship. Any electrical attacks could therefore only affect the specific area in which they hit before the Lornal implants would prevent the current from travelling any further, protecting the delicate electronic systems from damage.
The question then becomes what to do with the electrical charge that has been contained by the implant, left in place it would still prevent the use of electronics in the area and prevent the flow of current to other electronics. While this could prevent damage, it effectively would shut down a system as easily as anything else. To that end, the engineers also included miniaturized cap drains and combat de-ionizers. Able to clear out the electrical currents and ionic energy that would normally shut down a system.
A series of these small implants spread across any system would help protect it from those attacks that were normally designed to shut down an electronic system.
