Twelve in total, the Svalinn-class Shield Gates were designated for specific use.
- Shield Gates 1-4: Designated for Iron Imperial vessels.
- Shield Gates 5-8: Designated for Trade & Commerce vessels.
- Shield Gates 9-12: Designated for all other vessels.
To protect the station, each Svalinn was equipped with multiple Deflector Shields, and a reinforced hull. Similar to the Gjallarhorn-class Battlecruiser, the deflector shield generators were not exposed atop the station. Rather, all were safety housed within the shield gate itself.
However, this combination of spectacular defensive capability, and extreme hangar capacity, left the Svalinn with little space for offensive weaponry. As such, the station was equipped with a relatively meager arsenal, and relied on the Arondier Defense Fleet for protection.
In the event that a Svalinn-class Shield Gate was destroyed, a large hole would tear open in the planetary shield. In time, the remaining stations could fill the gap. However, in this period, the attacking fleet would have ample time to reach planetside.
