SPECIAL FEATURES
- Force Imbued (Lightside of the Force)
- Solar Powered. The solari crystal absorbs solar energy, which is stored for later use in the Rhylith power cell, making this a clean energy device.
- Shield-Bash. Containing many of the same components as a Jedi training lightsaber, the energy shield has a tactile presence that can be used to stun an opponent or knock them off their feet.
- Force Imbued. The pieces of Brylark wood are imbued with the Lightside of the Force, bathing the wearer in a sense of harmony that is akin to Center of Being meditation.
- Solar Powered. When used underground, on heavily overcast planets, or in places of limited natural light, the power reserves will be unable to sustain prolonged functionality.
- Non-Lethal. The power level of this device is no more than that of a Jedi's training saber. As such, the cutting power won't even cut through a paper bag.
- Lightside Restricted. Due to the Solari crystal, a Darksider who comes into contact with the bracer will experience a stinging sensation. Prolonged exposure may result in physical burns. Because the crystal responds to the Lightside of the Force, a neutral or grey Force User may be unable to get the crystal to function.
- Weak Against Ballistics. While the energy field is sufficient to stop a lightsaber, blaster bolt, or other melee instrument moving at ordinary humanoid speed, a small projectile at high velocity will pass through the energy field without suffering any ill effect. Something as small as a bullet would pass straight through, while an arrow with a long shaft might become stuck in the shield owing to the surface area of the shaft passing through the magnetic sheath. Similarly, a spear/javelin or other physical object of sufficient force may penetrate through the energy shield.
- Vulnerable to Ion Energy. The electronics housed within the device are shielded against static discharge, but a directed ion energy strike will render the emitter matrix inert.
Svaalin is a traditional Jedi light-shield, intended to serve in lieu of a lightsaber for the pacifist Beorni Jedi Artisan, Kiriko Howlingfjord. The energy field that the emitter produces is 1.1 meters in diameter. The light-shield produced takes the form of a round shield, which glows a pale pink color due to the rose quartz coloration of the Solari crystal at the heart of the device. The crystal matrix is finely detailed, like the inner workings of a watch. Rhylith solar cells around the outside of the emitter, and the Solari shards, absorb solar radiation. The solar power is then stored in the Rhylith power cell, which appear on either side of the bracer. Due to the use of Solari crystals, Svaalin is only able to be handled by someone with a lightside or neutral Force presence, though only a wielder of the Lightside of the Force will be able to get the crystalline matrix to function properly.
At its most basic, Svaalin is essentially a deconstructed training lightsaber. The emitter matrix is non-lethal by design, sustaining a tangible presence that is unable to produce any cutting power. Objects that come into contact with it react the same as they would if they had come in contact with a lightsaber blade, albeit one on a low power setting. That is, blaster bolts would be deflected, while a paddle-beamer ray would bend around the contour of the shield. Objects capable of passing through a lightsaber pass through the light-shield.
