SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Provides excellent protection against corrosion, acid, and toxic environmental damage, as well as superior protection against blasters and lightsabers.
  • Offers limited self-repairing capabilities, enabling equipment and droids to which this material is applied to outlast their usual lifespan and correct usual wear and tear and minor damage rather easily.
STRENGTHS:
  • Built Tough and Ready for Action: Objects to which this paint has been applied are very resilient against blasters, lightsabers, radiation, toxic environments, corrosion, and thermal energy. An ideal choice for combat vehicles, battle droids, and anything you intend to put into harm’s way!
  • Sure, I Can Fix That: Self-repairing qualities in the material allow equipment and droids using it to repair minor damage, routine wear and tear brought about by everyday use, and to maintain functionality and performance levels far beyond their usual downturn or expiration dates.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Any Color You Want, So Long As It’s Red: SunFyre Paint comes in just one color and one hue only, which limits the versatility of its application on objects where this color might be out of line with the color scheme (say, TIE Fighters) or the intent (say, Stealth vessels).
  • Nothing Lasts Forever: Routine wear and tear, exposure to the elements, and battle damage will take their toll over time, and require ‘touch-ups’ or new coats of this material to be added in order to maintain protective benefits.
  • Easy Fix, Long Day: Reapplication of this material must be made painstakingly by hand, basically in the form of a paintbrush and ‘elbow grease’, as its thickness and texture make it difficult for application by sprayers and other automated means. This means repairs to things will take longer and require more personnel than normal.
  • Not Everything Can Be Fixed: The self-repairing quality of this material is limited, and will not repair beyond minor damages and routine wear and tear. Dings, scratches, everyday damage, usual wear and tear, sure it’s all good. Applied to a droid, and barring serious damage, the droid will continue to remain in good working order long past its usual time. Shoot a hole in that droid and no amount of SunFyre Paint in the world is going to help.
  • Expensive Addiction: Normally, cost-prohibition isn’t much a weakness, but in this case it just might be. Due to the time involved in preparation of this material and the exacting processes used to manufacture it, there is – like most things – a hefty cost attached. Segroth shamelessly passes this on to its customers, and thus, having more than a small can or two of this stuff lying around is unheard of beyond large repair stations, corporate warehouses, or government facilities. For a military ship, reapplications of this material on equipment and droids isn’t an issue, but for a freelance spacer working on the Fringe, getting more of the material to fix a droid or other vital piece of equipment is harder to do, and once damaged, the erosive nature of damage being what it is, the protective and self-repairing qualities begin to breakdown fairly rapidly, opening the equipment to much increased vulnerability. This is because, once SunFyre is used on something, it must continue to be used on that something, or without it, not only do the protective qualities evaporate but the self-repairing effects begin to wear off, often resulting in accelerated breakdown of products which have survived past their prime because of using this material. For that Freelancer, just skimming by, his bright shiny red astromech might begin to lose its luster, and with it its protected-ness and performance levels rather quickly if he can’t scrape together the credits to get more SunFyre.
  • Cover Is Important: What isn’t covered by this material isn’t protected and doesn’t benefit from self-repairing qualities. Simple as that.
  • Limited Insurance Policy: This paint protects against toxic environments, corrosion, extreme thermal energy, radiation, and against blasters and lightsabers, and it does all of those very, very well. However, against sonic damage, kinetic damage, electrical or EMP/Ion threats it doesn’t do very much at all. Also – of course – it is nothing in comparison to the power of the Force.
DESCRIPTION

SunFyre Paint was created by the scientists at Segroth Materials Corporation to enhance its growing line of protective paints and lacquers. Meant to help protect items from everyday wear and tear, but also to guard against radiation, acids and other corrosive substances, blasters, and lightsabers, SunFyre does exactly that, making it the perfect choice for droids and machinery working in dangerous environments such as mining, construction, or elsewhere. Able to offer self-healing as well, use of SunFyre Paint to extend the lifetime of these machines, droids, and other equipment is a perfect choice, however, it was found that while this did an excellent job at repairing and protecting these abilities had limitations.

First, once applied, the paint must be continued to be applied for protection and self-healing to continue, and if stopped, droids and other equipment already past their prime would begin to break down very quickly without a fresh coat. Of course, Segroth didn’t mind, as the paint was expensive to produce, and with sufficient markup, the company stood to see many very healthy quarters ahead.

Secondly, while it repairs daily damage and everyday wear, it won’t heal serious damage. Using it to protect a generator, for instance, is great and it will do so, shielding the generator from all manner of atmospheric, environmental, even weapons damage. But, if you do shoot a hole in it, or slice it through with a lightsaber, the generator takes the very same damage as one without this protection and it won’t repair these kinds of damage.

Also, it only comes in red.
