So what was actually being said was that Katherine hadn't felt personally fulfilled until she had found Torin. Colette listened but she found the difference between happiness and her work difficult to distinguish from one another. It wasn't that she didn't desire these things — the hormonal response to this very conversation was proof of that — but in the long run it was more that she saw duty as being the foremost experience someone like her could have.
It was a great honor to live for others, and she didn't really want to change that.
"I'm sure I will, some day." Colette shrugged and took another swig of her bottle. "I would love to have someone around that was there when I went to bed and when I woke up. Someone that was there, who I could hold and kiss and rely on, but…"
"I also know the kind of life I lead right now, and I don't want to stop that either. And my duty to others outweighs my desire for love. At least right now, you know?"
