Suggestion: Code of Conduct

I came up with an idea that could help get writers to work together better and gives staff an avenue to encourage everyone to... get along. I am interested to see what others think of the idea and if they have any additional ideas for this.

Code of Conduct

When engaging in Player vs Player roleplaying, allow a fair allotment of time for your opponent to post before continuing. Waiting 48 hours is a suitable amount of time before posting again. Should you PM the other writer, and they see it but do not respond, writing may continue 24 hours after the initial post. Should the writer request a reasonable amount of additional time due to reasonable complications, this time allotment is to be honored. Should you feel that the other writer is 'stalling' purposefully, you man contact an RPJ to resolve the situation.

Requesting additional time before posting in a thread, or asking to leave a thread due to 'real life issues', then continuing to post in additional threads is frowned upon.

When engaging in Player vs Player roleplaying, allow opposition an avenue of escape. Losing an engagement does not imply death or capture unless agreed upon by the defending writer.

When a bounty is involved, or when the plot of the story denotes capture as appropriate, the defending writer is 'encouraged' to be more willing to accept being captured.

If another writer's character is captured or surrenders, their character is to be treated fairly. Rape, molestation, and torture are not allowed. (Interrogation may be done if the opposing writer agrees to it.)

If the story progression denotes capture as the logical outcome, but the defending writer insists escape, a separate thread my be began to cover the escape attempt, or a RPJ can be contacted to review the thread and determine if the defending player is captured or escapes. Godmodding and power gaming are highly discouraged in these threads. Writers are encouraged to remember that writing is not about 'winning', but telling a story.

Do not force another writer's character into a situation where death or god-modding is the option left to them.

Do not attempt to 'bully' or harass another writer to write with you. If you are requesting to write with an individual or a group, fair and open discussion before hand is encouraged.

If another writer or group of writers wishes to negotiate different conditions, both sides are encouraged to find an avenue that is agreeable to both sides. If an agreement cannot be reached, an RPJ can be contacted to mediate or the thread can simply be scrapped. If either side is found to be 'uncooperative' in the sense of refusing to negotiate fair and mutually agreeable conditions, an RPJ may issue a mark of reprimand on the responsible parties.

A mark of reprimand is a negative mark given to a writer or character when they are found to be violating the code of conduct. A mark of reprimand can only be given when a group of three RPJ's vote on the matter and find the conduct of a writer (IC or OOC) to violate the code of conduct.

A writer or character that accumulates 5 marks of reprimand in a 60 day period will not be allowed to post in IC threads for a two week period.

Honestly, everything you've said here is more or less obvious, and indirectly mentioned in the rules. It's common sense to do most of the things you said, and people already usually do them.

I don't know if it is clearly followed. I just had someone basically behead me in a thread and then ask if I was ready to die.
Thats just straight up against the rules!

So what prompted this?
I got tired of Popo bitching to me about the OOC drama of this website at work. This would provide an official avenue for staff to encourage writers to 'play nicely' with each other and prevent me from hearing one complaint or another. Also, in all honesty, this is something that I thought was already in place on the board. I went to try and find it the other day and realized that there was no 'official' list of do's and dont's. I had run into a few issues myself from time to time and had seen others encounter similar problems (mainly involving PvP writing). So I'm proposing that either staff come up with a list, or the writer base comes up with a list. Either way... It would cut down on the amount of drama that takes place and give staff a way and reason to reprimand those that are abusive to other writers.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

There are multiple instances where people on this site, sometimes including myself, have broken "Don't be a d_ck." Relying solely on that for guidance is rather pointless since there is rarely if ever any active punishment for the breaking of said basic rule.

See this is the thing.

This.

Is.

A.

Game.

A Game.

Those people that get caught up in the OOC politics of this need to remember that while we do put our heart and souls into some of the work on here, it as, at the end of the day, still a game. We are all guilty of having some pissy moment over a game. Hands up how many of you have ranted and raved when your playing a console or PC game and you just keep fething dying? All of you. Yes. I am guilty of it too.

So here's the thing, what you need to learn to do, is put the controller down, and walk away for five minutes. Common sense, morality and everything else that is supposed to make us good human beings do not need to be codified.

1) Non-unique. We have a system in place already. There are these things called reports.
2) There will always be OOC drama, it's human nature. The more rules there are the more conflict over the rules there will be.
3) More bureaucracy means people will post less. Interest will drop and the site will experience a drop in activity from people "afraid" to post for fear of breaking one of the many rules.

Use common sense. If the other person doesn't, pm them. Still don't? Report them.

It's not rocket science guys.

I'm already afraid to post half the time I'm on this site considering the level of OOC affecting IC on everything from wars to intra-faction politics. If more bureaucracy helps decrease that occurring, I see little issue.

I can guarantee, that every little bit of this issue you have you brought upon yourself, by breaking wheatons law in the first place.
