Even Knights could learn new skills. Jairdain was a master, and she still realized she had things she could improve on as well. However, today she had been asked to teach another Jedi some of her abilities. Her student was very much like her, from what she gathered, and he wanted to use a few more offensive powers. She had focused on things of the mind and knew only a few ways to attack another person. Knowing that, she was happy to share and waited for him to arrive.

Her estate in the province of Juniper on Commenor was large, filled with nature, and a place she was most comfortable. It was also large enough to house a shuttle, and a landing pad was ready for her newest apprentice. While this might last a straightforward lesson, he would then be able to teach additional people and pass on her knowledge. This might be the life she was meant for—one of a calm master passing on her knowledge.

Once Shan arrived, she would meet him so he wouldn't get lost among the flowers and lead him inside her home.

"Have you seen war? Why is it you want to learn more attack and offensive skills?"

Her tone was far from hostile, and it was friendly. Underneath it was a sound of sadness, but also one of understanding.

"Do you want a drink or any food?"

When he answered, she would take a seat and take the time to get to know the man behind the request.

Shan had carefully landed his interceptor as always. Safety was something that had always been of the upmost importance in his mind. He made sure to turn everything off before he hopped on out and took a look at the estate. It was always impressive to him whenever he saw homes of this size, and if it wasn't for Jairdain meeting him when he got out of his interceptor, he felt like he could have gotten lost quite easily.

Though as they walked, he couldn't help but tilt his head at her question. He knew some who would have been aggressive at the question. Seen it as a sign of disrespect but he didn't see it that way. It was an important question to ask as he kept his gaze ahead of himself, keeping his hands hidden in his sleeves, carefully folded along his front.

"I'm a doctor. A healer. I've seen plenty of war. And death. I've prevented some deaths, and been powerless to stop others. Even when I've broken my own morals and killed to save lives, it still hasn't been enough. In some cases, a healer needs to know how to fight more than some of those on the frontlines. Because whilst those on the frontlines have each other to rely on, sometimes the only person a healer can rely on for protection is themselves."

At that, Shan took in a deep breath. That was a lot more than he had expected to say than he thought. As he took a seat however, he tilted his head at her question once more.

"Some fruit and water would be much appreciated, thank you. I don't eat meat, unless I have to."

She could have easily gone the route of a healer. That wasn't totally her path, though, and Jairdain knew that. When she was a young Jedi with the Silvers, she had wanted to be a consular and diplomat. That was precisely what she had grown up to be. Through her life, she had also seen war but had only helped end lives. Her one kill had been requested, and it haunted her to this day. She had also helped save them, and those were far more important. Nodding in total understanding, she led him to her kitchen.

"That is a commendable position, and I'm sure you have done your best."

Getting him the water he asked for, if he was watching, she made sure to touch everything with her hands before dispensing the liquid. It was almost the same for the fruit. Because she knew where all the furniture was located, she did not stumble, but he might notice her eyes were unfocused as she walked back to him.

"I have also seen war and death. It changes a person, and sometimes there is no recovering from it. I can help you with a few means to keep yourself safe.

"Do you know the barrier?"

This was probably the best one to start with, maybe the most surprising.

Shan was watching and took notice of how Jairdain seemed to be touching everything and how her eyes appeared to be unfocused. He had his own theories as to what could be going on, but he didn't pry. It wasn't his position to ask questions like that. It wasn't any of his business, in the same way he didn't expect to pry into things.

"It's not as commendable as most might think. I've failed. Both in saving lives, and not taking them. I thank you however."

At that, he took his glass of water and sipped at it for a moment. It was more to give him time to answer her question. It might not have seemed like a question that needed much thought. A simple yes or no would have been enough for more people, but Shan always liked to give more of a complex answer compared to something simple.

"It is something I know. Yes. I use it in combination with my Lightsaber style when it's needed, to make sure I can act as an unbreakable wall...It hasn't always worked either but it makes it easier to take a few hits. I've...never used it on someone else however"

Shan could recall the amount of pummelling and beatings he had taken. How many would he have more than likely died in if it hadn't been for the Force powers he used...For now he just shook his head and tried to sit back, to focus on relaxing.

"Such is the price we pay, Shan. Nobody can do everything, and you don't carry the burden alone. Remember that."

Her tone was soft but firm in its conviction. This was one of the first lessons she had learned on the field. They worked together, and each person helped the others. What one might not be able to do, another person could, and they would step forward to perform what was needed. Lessons were traded and knowledge was passed along.

Just because they weren't in battle didn't mean Jairdain couldn't help Shan.

"Normally, the barrier is used as a defensive tactic. It also helps if you know pyro or cryo kinesis. If you don't, I can teach you those as well. Watch this, though. I also promise no harm will come to you."

Holding out one of her hands, she placed a round barrier above the palm. Inside it, there was a fast flare of fire, and when she dissipated the barrier, some of its heat reached them where they sat. The second time, she placed a barrier around his hands where they held the glass of water. Focusing on the water, it soon became frosted and began to freeze.

"Put that around your opponent and you can disable them without killing them."

"Geokinesis is my main strength. I'm used to making structures out of the ground to protect myself. It also helps with the somewhat electrokinesis I learned from a Wilder. I can redirect electricty, but I can't...make it myself."

That skill had saved Shan more times than he cared to admit. If he ever saw Vulpesen again, Shan would need to thank him for that class. He couldn't help but grin to himself, as he thought fondly back to that moment. He missed those moments back as a Padawan, not feeling all of the pressure he felt now. He shook his head however, turning his attention over towards the usage of the Force, taking it in.

"I see...It makes sense. The pyrokinesis could arguably cause someone to pass out from the heat, whereas the cryokinesis could freeze someone to the point of unconsciousness. It's a similar effect to a lightsaber crystal I've seen some people use. It drains the heat and energy from a being to cause them to pass out...I don't have it in my saber however..."

Shan rubbed his chin, letting his more inquisitive mind work at trying to come up with ideas on how to use these techniques and how he could apply them. The Mirialan couldn't even hide the grin slowly spreading across his face as he felt like a Padawan all over again.

She listened to him as he spoke and stopped him just after he said Wilder.

"That wouldn't happen to be Vulps, would it?"

Waving for him to continue, she wondered if she could teach him lightning. It was one of the things she learned while growing up. It might help him, but it might also be too much to teach all at once.

"I normally use cryokinesis over pyro, but it depends on what I'm up against. Humans and near-humans are susceptible to both, so you should use your judgment. I never knew some crystals could accomplish pretty much the same thing."

You learn something new every day, and Jairdain was no exception to the rule.

"If you can manipulate air concentration, you can also remove the oxygen and cause the person to pass out. Given enough time, that would happen naturally as they breathed in the air inside the barrier. Might take too long, though, and you need something to act quickly."

His reaction pleased her, and she was happy to know Shan was enjoying himself.

"Yes. He came to the Temple once when I was a Padawan. Taught some of us techniques on controlling the elements. He had like an entire...course set up. I worked with the Electricity. Got zapped a few times...but sometimes pain is important for learning."

Shan gave a short nod at that. He wasn't the kind of person to complain about pain anymore. Though he tilted his head as Jairdain spoke. She had plenty of interesting ways for him to apply his techniques that he hadn't thought of before. Removing oxygen was a great way to make someone to pass out, that was true. The Doctor part of him was worried about the potential damage that would cause, but it was better to fall unconscious than to get yourself killed...Hm...

"I'm surprised everytime I hear about the new gear and crystals some Jedi have. I don't have anything like it. The only fancy crystal I have is a healing crystal of fire. I got it for my birthday a while back."

It was something he always carried with him. He didn't use it to help heal something that was simple, but you never know when you might need to push yourself. So that's why he kept it on his person. There would come a day where he'd have to push himself as hard as he could and then go beyond that. That's the day the crystal would come in handy.

"That's my brother."

Jairdain did not interrupt him as he spoke, nodding in understanding about pain. That was how the Sith had taught her. Their instruments of pain were entirely different than hers or Vulps though.

"I have various artifacts and talismans from my time as an active fighter with the Jedi."

She hadn't thought about them for a while and decided she would have to bring them out more often. Even if only for situations like this, when explaining what they did to another person.

"Do you have any questions about anything so far? Would you like to practice?"

"Huh. It's strange how the Galaxy works Who would have thought your brother would have taught me something that saved my life, and now I'm here learning from you."

Shan nodded slowly at that. A small grin spread across his face at that as he sat back for a moment and tilted his head at the mentioning of various artifacts and talismans. Unfortunately for Shan, he didn't have anything as fancy like that. The crystal was all he really had if he was honest to himself. And it's all he really needed.

"Some practice would be helpful. It's all well and good for me to understand the theory, but until it's put into practice, I believe knowledge can be quite...useless."

"He always did like teaching. I guess I got that from him."

Shrugging slightly, she was pleased that he could apply the knowledge they had taught.

"Next time we see each other, I'll have to make sure to bring the items out and show you.

"Do you know cryo and pyro kinesis? I suppose I should have asked that first."

Letting out a breath through her nose, those had been among the first skills she had learned from a Jedi Master with the Silvers. Another lifetime ago, Jairdain smiled at her fond memories of Jessica.

Shan Shan

"I suppose he did. I remember he teased me because I used his full title in the class when he introduced himself. I was a bit...too polite as a Padawan."

Shan rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly at that. It wasn't a memory he looked back on fondly. Back when he was a stickler for rules, and believed the Jedi were infalliable. Of course that wasn't something he believed in anymore but he didn't like to think back to it...

"No. I've never had the right aptitude for either of them. I'm not...hot tempered enough to be able to use pyrokinesis, nor am I cold enough for Cryo. I'm sure I could still use them of course. They just aren't...skills that I think I'm well suited for."

The same way he wasn't fully suited to fighting with a lightsaber. He could do it, yes. But it would never be something that felt natural to him. Defensive manoeuvres were what felt the most natural to him but that had always been it. He shook his head however, trying to keep his attention focused on the here and now.

"I still call people by titles when the situation warrants it. Among friends and in private, I am much less formal, and I don't expect people to call me 'master.' You don't need to do that with me."

Getting that part of the conversation out of the way, she was also once a stickler for rules and titles. As she said, even today, she would call a master, Master.

"I understand when something isn't natural. However, if you ever choose to use the barrier as a defensive attack, you're also going to need to combine either cryo or pyro with it. It's how I froze your water or heated the air earlier."

Statements that were also advice from her. Jairdain spoke with the confidence of a woman who had needed to do exactly what she described.

"Don't think of them as skills where you need to be angry to use them. Just think of them as a tool to accomplish your escape."

Shan Shan

"I can agree with that. I didn't always. A friend of mine helped me to realise that I've worked hard for the titles I've earned, I should take pride in them instead of hiding them in the dark as if I don't care about them."

Shan shrugged his shoulders at that. He was still a stickler for the rules either way. It was practically who he was at the core of things. And unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately for him, it wasn't something he could ever see himself changing.

Though he raised an eyebrow as he listened to Jairdain speak. Her advice was going to be important to take in, no matter how much he might have felt like a fish out of water. After all, she knew more than Shan did and life was always filled with new lessons. Hm...They could be tools to accomplish his escape. Escaping wasn't exactly Shan's idea, but he could understand it at least.

"That makes sense. I feel like I'm a bit too...stubborn in the techniques I use. I'm not a fan of change, as amusing as that might sound."

Jairdain Ismet-Thio Jairdain Ismet-Thio

When he mentioned he was stubborn and didn't like change, Jairdain gave a small laugh with a nod and pointed at her eyes.

"I'm the blind one here, and I dislike change a lot as well. Stumbling around in what should be a familiar place is hazardous to me. Well, to anybody but you, get the idea."

Some of that humor she occasionally displayed shone through as she replied to his comment.

"What techniques do you use?"

Teaching went both ways often enough. What he used might be something she had never thought of.

Shan Shan

"You say that, but more often than, I find those that are blind see more than the average person does. People more often than not end up relying on their visual skills as opposed to their other senses."

Shan gave a small shrug of his shoulders at that, tilting his head at her question about what kind of techniques that he normally used. He cupped his chin in thought, trying to figure out how to answer it. Most of it had been just stuff he had picked up in the past. He didn't exactly have any names for his techniques.

"There's Soft to Solid I learned off one Jedi. I use it to help protect myself, or to make it easier to knock people out. I use a lot of geokinesis. Force enhancement. I don't have anything...too fancy."

Jairdain Ismet-Thio Jairdain Ismet-Thio

"I do believe you are right, Shan, but that can be our secret."

Her touch was as sensitive as was her hearing. She also relied on her intuition and, of course, the Force. That was how she saw the world and moved through it.

"Explain to me how that one works, the soft-to-solid technique. The phrasing isn't one I'm familiar with. However, some mental attacks can knock out people. So maybe it is one of those, but you know it by your name. Earth magic?"

Wanting clarification on what Geokinesis was, she asked exactly that. Jairdain wasn't opposed to learning new techniques herself, and maybe he could teach her as well.
