Strike the Golden Dawn

Location: Ank Kit'aar
Primary Objective: Construct two dams to ensure year-round water supply for two cities, and upgrade an existing dam to prevent calamity at a third.
Secondary Objective: Explore several subterranean networks located during geological surveys. Determine how they were formed, and if they pose any danger to nearby communities.

Outside the perimeter of Construction Camp Theta, set on an open plain within sight of the dam under construction, stood several works calmly organizing supplies for the next phase. Shouts rang out to convey instructions from afar. Laughter rippled among those awaiting their next task. Others stood or lay about collecting physical or mental energy for grueling work ahead. An assortment of risen structures sat nearby where they would sleep at night with a cool fire pit among them. Tracks of heavy machinery had begun to blunt from local weather with the metal beasts moved into position; with fresher tracks of small vehicles ran to and fro, and more planned in the near future.

To date, their efforts had been progressing on schedule. Work to divert the water, secure the site, and begin laying the foundation were well under way.

Meanwhile, several miles distant, another team had made for the nearby network of caverns discovered while surveying the best site for the dam. What made them and where they led no one knew. A collection of science-minded individuals, among others, had been led there for detailed examination. A pressing concern was how they might threaten future developments in the nearby region. Potential utilization of the caverns might also be possible depending on their geological construction.

The most recent report from the survey crew suggested the exploration continued with little to no danger evident to either them or the construction project.

Several hours later, the communication station noted a lack of status report by the survey crew. This was noted by the supervising on-duty officer, who held off on alarm for 'a little while longer.' They would not, however, need to wait long...

Just outside of the camp a strange, black cloud of churning smoke slowly spilling from a single spot in mid-air. A few within sight drew attention to it, and a murmur moved through a growing crowd. Once the strange phenomena was roughly seevn feet tall and about as wide the currents became increasingly erratic. Moments later a tall, serpentine form emerged from the inky depths; it surged outward until its length rested atop the fertile soil of the world. A short cry of surprise rouse from those present before all went silent. Every breath was held unsure of what to make of whatever had happened right before their eyes.

Some fidgeted with whatever tool happened to be in reach. Others glanced at one another and slowly positioned themselves in case of attack.

The silvery-white mask of the serpentine arrival pivoted slightly. Pitch black, narrow eye sockets seemed to scan the area where the assorted Knights Obsidian and volunteers stood. Without prompting, a what might be considered a raspy pattern of noises soon followed its arrival. "Svaklar ui wer warden meagear? Clax ve ekess jacion. Lyriki re persvek korth." Only a few seconds would need to pass while people stared blankly or took no action it deemed appropriate before even sharper hisses followed, "Astahii re persvek korth! Svaklar re astahii?" The long, scaly body coiled and thrashed behind it.
