Description: The Stingray-class Cloaking Package is a hibridium cloaking device...with a twist!

  • Like all hibridium cloaking devices, it renders a ship completely immune to all known types of sensor except Crystal Gravfield Traps. Its bubble is wide enough to mask drive glow entirely, if the installer is not an idiot.
  • However, a hibridium cloaking device, unlike stygium or all those bargain-bin deniable pseudo-cloaks, is double-blind. It blocks all sensors and sight from inside the field.
  • The Stingray-class Cloaking Package thus comes with a periscope.
  • The periscope contains high-capacity passive sensors (mostly limited to speed-of-light), and some active sensors (activated only rarely, as they can get you detected).
  • The periscope head is about one metre across, too small to register on capital ship sensors except at close range. (Precedent: Loronar CCIR needles tearing the crap out of capships because they were too small to be detected.) At close range, or on advanced sensors, the periscope head largely registers as a small asteroid or chunk of debris unless the active sensors are, well, active. Thus, the ship should restrict itself to a ballistic course to avoid detection; chunks of space junk aren't known for their spontaneous maneuvering capabilities.
  • Thus, the periscope head is painted black.
  • The Stingray-class Cloaking Package is also capable of adjusting the girth and center of its cloaking bubble, either to include other small ships or to use the double-blind limitation as a feature by dropping the bubble over an enemy sensor/comms array. This would only work at extremely close range, if the ships are more or less stationary relative to each other. This tactic was observed by the Imperial Remnant during a Mandalorian conflict ten years back.
  • The Stingray-class Cloaking Package is only suitable for ships of corvette to cruiser size.
