OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Starseer Jellyfish
  • Designation: Non-Sentient
  • Origins: Kal by way of Greystone
  • Average Lifespan: 5-20 Standard Years
  • Estimated Population: Rare; rarely seen outside the aquariums of Greystone's clients.
  • Description: An unusual new breed of Jellyfish created through creative alchemy with the assistance of the Weavers, the Starseers are made to bolster Force Sensitives in various ways (indeed, their presence has been known to cause a "pleasant tingling sensation"), but have also earned the appreciation of certain subsections of the artistic community, who insist that the dreams they induce are quite the muse.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type 1 (Aquatic)
  • Average Height of Adults: Variable.
  • Average Length of Adults: 5-30 cm (Width)
  • Skin Colour: Shades of red, pink, blue, and purple.
  • Hair Colour: N/A, jellyfish are not known for their luscious manes.
  • Distinctions: Pretty jellyfish with a strange aura and an innate fondness for Force Sensitives.
  • Races: N/A, differences are too minor for true categorisation, but colours may diverge from the norm.
  • Force Sensitivity: All Starseers are Force Sensitive, though they lack the intellect to develop this further.
    • The Force Sensitive or Attuned often report experiencing a pleasant tingling sensation in their presence.
STRENGTHS
  • Forceful Symbiosis: The very presence of Starseers bolster the abilities of nearby Force Users, especially telepathy and associated skills.
  • Eye of Prophecy: Meditating or sleeping in the presence of Starseers has been known to inspire creativity or even full-blown visions.
  • Sweet Dreams: Starseers seem to inspire vividly lucid dreams in those that sleep nearby; better quality of sleep has been reported.
WEAKNESSES
  • Harmless Critters: Starseers are more or less defenceless on their own and their ability to bolster the Force is ill-suited for combat use; Force nullification might well be an excellent weapon against them, but given their utterly harmless nature this seems an unnecessary precaution.
  • Eye of the Beholder: While they may rarely cause true visions in nearby Force Users, it can be difficult to separate these from the usually vivid dreams they induce, especially for amateur seers. Furthermore, interpreting such visions is difficult and vulnerable to individual prejudice.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Carnivore; subsist primarily on planktonic organisms, crustaceans, small fish, and fish eggs/larvae.
  • Communication: N/A, though the vivid dreams they cause may be interpreted as such.
  • Technology Level: N/A, they're jellyfish.
  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A, they're jellyfish.
  • General Behaviour: Swim around their enclosure by way of rhythmic pulsations of their bell; they are able to hunt various smaller organisms but lack the necessary toxins to harm or even inconvenience humanoids. They seem to be strangely drawn to Force Sensitives, altering their colours and patterns in response to their presence and dancing around them or even caressing them should they enter the enclosure. Direct contact has been described as "a tingling sensation above and beyond their usual aura, but not in a bad way".
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The first creatures created (or rather, permanently altered in such a way as to be clearly distinct from their original species) by the Shadow known as Kal, the Starseers are fairly simple creatures both mentally and biologically and thus well-suited to serve as a first major project - that said, their creator did succeed in imbuing them with some rather unusual properties, notably an aura beneficial to the Force Sensitive/Attuned.

Considerably more niche than the Force-countering aura of a Ysalamiri though it may be, this aura has a number of noncombative uses, most of which require a meditative state or extended concentration. Telepathy and attempts to scry the future/distance are key applications.

Even in the non-Sensitive/Attuned, their presence may encourage better sleep, more vivid dreams, and heightened creativity - some knowingly or not Force Attuned artists (and, for that matter, blue sky researchers) have found the creatures particularly useful in that capacity.

Thanks for taking the time to use the Codex. I'm going to be the Codex Judge going over the review and approval process for this submission with you. Overall, this is a solid concept, just a quick not to make.

As they're an entirely Force sensitive species, would you be so kind as to include a weakness revolving around how they are in Force Null fields, such as those introduced by Ysalamir, Void Stones, etc?
