PRODUCTION INFORMATION

Manufacturer: Visanj T’shkali
Affiliation: Closed-Market
Model: StarPorter Starship Cargo Package
Modularity: None
Production: Minor Production
Material(s):
SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Allows automated loading/unloading, movement, transfer, and storage of cargo – including live creatures and perishable items – aboard starships.
  • Can be adjusted to fit various sizes and configurations of cargo bays and ships.
  • Ideal for spacers, smugglers, pirates, and others who regularly deal with various kinds of cargo that might require special accommodations to safely transport and deliver.
STRENGTHS:
  • Enables single pilots or small-sized crews to automate the loading and unloading of cargo or transfer cargo between vessels, as well as ensure the secure storage and prevent cargo from shifting during transit.
  • Can carbon freeze or place into stasis perishables and other freight, including humanoids and other live creatures, preventing spoilage during long trips.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Tractor beam emitters can only lift up to 900kg and operate within 10m, meaning that starships must be in close proximity to load/unload freight, and larger and heavier items must be moved using other means.
  • Living creatures placed into carbon-freezing or stasis are vulnerable to the usual risks involved with these technologies.
  • Cargo netting can be broken loose by cutting or small weapons fire, and in the event of severe turbulence may become loosened or give way entirely, requiring crews to replace them and secure them once more.
DESCRIPTION:

Have you ever tried to load one hundred cases of Corellian whisky? How about moving a flock of Endorian chickens from one planet to another? Cargo-handling can be dangerous, tedious, and troublesome. This becomes even more apparent in smaller ships with single pilots or small crews or with cargo bays that require freight to be kept secure and organized throughout long trips. The StarPorter was designed with these concerns in mind. The package can permit automated loading and ensure freight remains safely stowed away, even carbon-freezing or placing perishable freight into stasis for longer voyages.

While the StarPorter makes life easier, reducing workloads and helping to make for safe, easy trips and secure deliveries, it isn’t without risks and limitations. Cargo nets break, freight shifts, and sabotage can cause a big mess. Even severe turbulence can cause containers to move and netting to become loose, requiring it to be secured again. Stasis fields that are improperly calibrated or carbon-freezing not performed correctly can result in hibernation sickness, even death. Also, it’s important to know that the carbon-freezing chamber won’t accept a bantha or some other very large creature or container, meaning you’re just gonna have to deal with mess of moving such creatures about the old-fashioned way!
