Stardreams and Night Visions

"I understand, Aleks," Thais said, using his first name now, a less formal touch. "A businessman doesn't always get to experience the arts on Kuat as they were meant to be experienced. I am often in that same position myself on Isis."

As much as she was trying to relate to the older man, she was also thrilled that he was accompanying her as his date. She had no idea to his playboy reputation or former dalliances with women like the Hapan Hussy. Like the youthful figure she was, Thais was genuinely happy for his company this evening.

She took Aleks's hand as he helped her into the speeder, which they entered right from the apartment. They would be attending an opera based on a gothic romance of sorts, full of lust and passion, stimulating to the senses.

As they entered the ornate Opera House in the middle of Kuat City, near to the picturesque Tekshar Falls, Thais thrust a program into Aleks's hand to show him what the Opera was about.

"This troupe is supposed to be almost the best in the galaxy," said Thais. "What do you think?" she asked Aleks, already seeking his council and guidance. This is what the Princess did when she wanted to annex someone and have them closer to her. She asked many questions and sought advice.

And hopefully he would provide her with the council she sought, even if, at the end of the day, it was a physical kind.

Alek took the programme, looking over the listed details. In truth he knew not what to make of it, he'd never been to such a show and thus had nothing to base his opinion off of. Yet he had to have an opinion, and not just for her sake, but his own. If one didn't have an opinion on something then they were uninvolved, and one wasn't involved then they were irrelevant. Alek intended to be relevant; always.

"I'm sure it'll be a memorable experience," he glanced at Thais, "as will the show." She smirked slightly at his own remark. Certainly this date would be a memorable experience, she just bought from him his greatest creation yet and more importantly was someone whom he could see himself with. That was rare.

Only a few people in his past have ever intrigued him this much, those few being either dead, out of touch, or wishing to kill him.

Quite sad.

As they sat together in one of the box seats reserved for the elite and wealthy, Princess Kallisto tried to assess the audience's reaction to the pair of them together. She thought she saw a few heads swivel around and some furtive whispers at the duo, but honestly, she couldn't tell just how much of a public presence that Aleks had. She didn't find him to be as eccentric as some would, but that was because Thais was young and had no one to really compare him to, except a dozen Princes and some random Barons whom she had rejected in some capacity. It was likely she was also eccentric, but again, she was prideful like the shipping mogul. She didn't characterize either of them as quirky, weird or reclusive. In the Princess's mind, they were celebrity - nevermind that no one on Kuat knew who she was.

And if one was going to take a Princess to the Opera, she was going to look every bit the part. She managed to change ahead of time into a long, black gown with a gold-leaf tiara.

Abruptly the lights dimmed, and the Opera began. Princess Kallisto tried to pay attention, but every now and then, she would try to steal a glance at her handsome date. At a rather tense aria between the soprano and the tenor, she clutched at Aleks's arm. Unsure if he was bored or as enthralled as she, during a quieter moment, she leaned into him and found his ear. "Are you enjoying it so far?" she asked in a whisper. Thais was in her element - Isis had its arts scene, but Kuat's Opera was ten times better than any production in the Outer Rim! But of course, why shouldn't everything be bigger, better and more lavish on the Core Worlds?

Alek followed the act, observing the way they moved, all that they sang and sunk into the deeper meaning between what was being represented. The Balmorran had a habit of trying to see beyond face value, to witness beauty and value underneath what was obvious. For a playboy, that likely seemed to be uninteresting, but as a designer it meant everything. One needed an eye that could look beyond what most people saw.

Yet what did his eyes see? Those artificial, orange orbs, which seem so fixed on the Opera that he failed to notice a single glance sent his way. Only when she whispered into his ear, did his concentration relent enough for himt o remember that she existed. "It's interesting," he mumbled, his attention returning to the act once more. He had no thought to how it might've seemed rude, certainly they were there for a show--but they were there together. And she was a customer as well.

Despite that, his mind wandered around, his musings bounced off of every possible thought.
