PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Manufacturer: Visanj T’shkali
Affiliation: Closed-Market
Model: Star Hunter Mk. II Sensor Array, SF-3.0M
Modularity: Yes, may be sized to different classes of ships.
Production: Mass-Production
Material: Reinforced Duraplast, electronic components, sensor components

COMPONENTS:
*Only used aboard ships with atmospheric flight capability.
**Contains the following: Full Spectrum Transceiver, Dedicated Energy Receptor, Hyperwave Signal Interceptor, Lifeform Scanner, and an automated external deployment pod which housed six (6) reusable Orbital Relay Satellites.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Combining a variety of scanners, sensors, and related systems, it forms a powerful sensor suite designed to provide the maximum range of sensor capabilities to a starship and is well-suited to a variety of purposes from general sensor array to planetary survey, exploration, risk awareness/assessment, stellar cartography, and more.
  • Uses modern miniaturization technology to allow the system to be sized to fit aboard a broad variety of starship types and classes, and to lower normally heavy power consumption requirements for this number and variety of sensors.
  • Capable of providing a broad-range sensor array, allowing for precision and comprehensive awareness and assessment to ships’ crews far beyond the capacity of most conventional sensor system designs, so that - for example - this system is capable of counting the number of leaves on a particular tree on the surface of a planet from orbit, identifying that tree, and the lifeforms inhabiting it (i.e. insects, avions, mammals, species of fungi, etc.). This is a next-generation similarity to the sensor suites used in the MRX-BR Pacifier, which had been the mainstay of the Galactic Empire’s Imperial Survey Corps.
STRENGTHS:
  • Powerful sensor package allows optimal range, precision, and performance standards and capabilities for both hyperspace and realspace.
  • Signal-boosting technologies and deployable orbital relay systems allow far greater range and precision than most conventional arrays now in use.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Systems’ range is proportionate to ship size, meaning that when sized to fit a smaller vessel, say 20-50m it will not perform to the same level as when sized to a larger vessel such as a heavy cruiser or frigate.
  • Cannot be installed on ships below 20m in size.
  • The array relies on cooperation with the ships’ computers, ECM, targeting, and communications arrays to maximize effectiveness, and if and when these systems become damaged or compromised, so too will the effectiveness of this array.
  • The array, due to the sheer number of miniaturized components involved, requires a com-scan and droid brain to manage it, both of which are included into the design. However, these are vulnerable – with sufficient skill and adequate time – to dedicated slicing attacks and carry the risk of compromise and possible partial or full deactivation through this means.
  • The array still requires a notable amount of power despite its design improvements, and can only achieve maximum performance on ships which have excellent power plants and / or power management, or else if a separate power source is used.
  • The array is complex, due to the advanced design and number of miniaturized and combined systems involved, which makes repair often beyond the scope of less-skilled boffins or general maintenance droids.
DESCRIPTION:

Continuing the success of the Star Hunter Sensor Array, the Mark-2 is meant specifically for larger ships. Where the Star Hunter (Mark-1) could be adapted for larger vessels, it was originally conceived as a starfighter array, so the Mark-2 was designed for larger ships and would include significant upgrades and expansion over the original system.

Inspired by the ancient MRX-BR Pacifier, used by the Imperial Survey Corps, which was noted for its powerful and precise sensor capabilities, the Mark-2 was designed for use as a survey and exploration array, projecting well beyond the scope and range of mere starship sensors used in more conventional ships. The Mark-2 operates on the same two-stage concept as the original: Providing an excellent set of hyperspace sensors, navigational scanners, and awareness-enhancing systems, the Mark-2 is capable of offering solid advance-warning, tracking, and navigational aids to pilots and crews, thereby increasing hyperspace awareness and navigational efficiency beyond the scale of more conventional designs. In realspace, the Mark-2 truly shines, giving ships a tremendously powerful assortment of sensor capabilities which offer exceptional range, precision, and scope, making them perfectly adapted for survey vessels, exploratory ships, scientific and research vessels, and much, much more. They also offer enhanced capabilities for tracking, targeting, and identification of potential threats, enemy ships, and more, allowing captains and crews a broad range of resources to bear, adaptable to a variety of circumstances and needs.

An advanced sensor array, offering greater power, precision, and versatility than most anything in contemporary use, the Mark-2 is a strong choice for most any size and class ship!
