Private Splitting Rocks to Find Jade

Jakku Enclave was home to a select number of beings. A handful of Padawans including herself along with a Master Jedi that were overseeing their training. She'd spotted a few that she needed to refer to a roster to identify. Fewer that she knew by either name or reputation.

But a name kept cropping up on her roster that never appeared for anything besides food it seemed.

"I thought. Probably shouldn't think on it too much." Rubbing her each eye with careful precision as she moved into the living quarters to find the elusive other Jade.

Romi apparently had a son of some sort. She'd seen him only in passing really, barely more than a what felt like a sight in her peripheral with everything going on.

Having discarded the cloak of her Robes, she strode over to the quarters that had been assigned to. She blinked, mind drawing a blank as she tried her little trick.

"Stomach, me, shy." Realization slow to dawn as she refined each word in a quiet mutter before knocking on his door. "Abishai!"

It felt incredibly silly to be knocking when she had to run the place.

But a lesson long ago with her cousin had taught her the value of knocking to someone else's room as she waited. Wondering silently now if they needed to put a three knock rule in place for such situations. Hand on her hip as she turned her head to think.

Did she need to talk to the masters in person about this, or would a message be sufficient? Maybe put it to a vote? Probably could talk to the padawans to explain the why before just making it a rule.

There wasn't any kind of precedent for what she was doing. At least none for her personally.

Suddenly having to find and regulate training for others was difficult enough given her own nature. Telling others what to do. That chewed on her exhaust port a little as if she'd betrayed something in herself on that matter. Then again. This wasn't Denon, and she wasn't here to raid a space.

Merely to check in on a concerning development. Or situation. Whichever presented itself first.

His second shiv had been finalised, and was carefully tucked into a second hiding place.

It had taken many days for Abishai to understand why he had so much freedom within the Enclave, and learn the true nature of those that watched over him. They were indeed captors. The dessert itself were the bars of his cell.

The captors smiled, and faked their kindness in an attempt to break down his walls. He would not permit this to happen. He would sooner die than succumb. Perhaps the dessert would assist in that one day soon too. He would do anything but betray his mother, Valara.

The child did not know the truth. But would the revelation of his true parentage actually change his mind. It would be assumed as another deception, a trick from the sinister ones on the dessert world.

The grill across the air vent was replaced just as a knock came at the door.

”One moment, I’m just getting dressed!”

An outright lie, of course.

He stealed himself for the continuation of his own deception. His own role in the theatre of this prison. That of the harmless young boy.

”OK. I’m good,” he said as his feet quietly found the floor again and he pushed the chair in toward the desk.

Not having much else to do besides wait for a reply, she stood in a silence that seemed to stretch on as long as the stars during a jump through Hyperspace. Her hand raised to knock again when a voice from within finally made itself known.

A recluse maybe? Possible given his parentage. Or maybe that was what made it seem off.

Most everyone had already been dressed for the day, but then again schedules here were dictated by the students largely.

"Al-alright." Bemused by the wonder as she idled and picked at the hem of her Robe. The subtle sound of something gliding across the floor after he spoke making her eyes rise from the troublesome hem an affix themselves to the door.

A half grin as flustered amusement filled her. Was he hiding something? Casting her eyes about at the structure around her at his potential craftiness to find a hiding place in the place meant to be as straightforward as possible.

Her own past as a sneaky padawan the only reason she even vaguely recognized the subtle sound. Shaking the thoughts free before she announced herself.

"Coming in." Swiping her hand over the controls as the door opened, rose colored eyes falling on the boy in question.

A brow rising as she took measure of him. Blond hair, a lean physique, and seeming little more than a waiting student before her. Suddenly finding herself at a loss of where to even begin with the boy.

"Chit, you're as tall as I am."

Head canted slightly as her single arm propped against her hip. A slight frown forming as she realized she was closer to looking him in the eye rather than being in any way significantly taller.

Was everyone going to tower over her?

"Anyhow," Clearing her throat a she tried to do something other than frown. "You had breakfast yet? Got a day ahead of us." Nodding to the corridor for him to join her, fixing an awkward smile in place of the slight frown she'd worn.

Still silently fuming about his height.

“You don’t talk like the rest of them.” Abishai didn’t say. But he wanted too.

Abishai paused for a moment, eyes squinting to take in the one before him. She wasn’t like all the others. She was. Different. He felt his guard rise even more.

”I’m not hungry,” he said, more curtly than he intended. Internally, he chastised himself for not playing the part of friendly wannabe-Jedi.

“Who are you? And what do you have planned for me?” Again, he was doing a poor job of the act. His words sound more an accusation than a sincere query.

Adding to his annoyance, he had started for feel the course robe like garment against his skin. It annoyed him. Just like everything else Jedi. He squirmed a little, revealing his discomfort.

Her eyes narrowed at his words.

"You aren't hungry?" Clearly not believing the words but not pushing him. Not having a decent gauge yet of just how to speak with him or really anything about him.

Letting a brow arch as he questioned who she was and what she had planned.

"Lossa Darcuhl. And I wanted to see what you're learning. Learn what you're interested in. I used to run around the Outer Rim as a freighter pilot you know?" Trying to dangle conversation topics in front of him. Flying blind had never been too much of an issue in space.

And it felt like she had better luck with the black pressing down around her than trying to get this particular kid to open up.

He shook his head to confirm that no, he was not hungry. HIs stomach growled in protest. He tried hard to keep his eyes from narrowing suspiciously at this ‘Lossa’ character. He was not great at keeping his head from leaning away from her and glancing slightly sideways at her. His defences were clearly still up.

”You are a pilot?” He said, cautiously, “can I see your ship?”

Memories of his mother‘s warnings came to mind. Valara would always caution him about beings with off the norm skin tones. Was this one of those Zeltron? The ones with the pheromones? Abishai would have to watch his reactions to insure he was not having his senses dulled by their seductive ways.

“I mean…if you have time…”

Even with the obvious sign of his hunger, she didn't press the issue. Even without tasting the emotions in the air, she could tell he had a guard up for some reason. The food wasn't horrible, at least not compared to some of the places she'd passed through in the outer rim at least. Even some of the food places towards the core needed a lesson on what was a passable meal at times though.

Maybe a particular allergy?

But for his guard to be up even with just a simple meeting. A strange thing given the highly isolated location they were in. Maybe others had been poking fun at him? Was he worried she might also? He was a scrawny thing. But most of the younger kids could be considered scrawny really.

Idle thoughts that didn't end with anything productive as he seemed to brighten at the idea of her being a pilot.

"Yeah. Definitely!" Feeling as if she might have found a vein of interest without even having to make a day of it. "It's a bit of a trek but we can go have a look."

She wasn't going to mention what a poor state the Skiptown was in at the moment. Being hauled here under another ships power to be worked on when she needed a break or found students interested in learning about starship maintenance maybe.

"If you would like, we could make that the first part of our day?" A question to allow him to choose. This was a place of odd schedules after all. A happy smile forming at the thought of maybe seeing a special interest form.

He tried to hide his enthusiasm, but failed. “Really? Do we have to do anything else?” He was already spinning about and grabbing his coat, that was quickly pulled up over his arms. He seemed ready to go.

Pushing past Lossa, Abishai found his way into the hallway. He spun about on his heels. “Lossa…right? Lossa Durj-ical?”

This was the closest he had gotten to a pilot since arriving on this dust ball, and he wasn’t going to allow her to think him unfriendly. Best to have this one on side, for his sake. If escape meant, being nice to one of his captors he would happily bite the bullet.

His hands crossed, pointing in both directions. “Do we go left…or right?”

Genuine excitement.

It really felt like she'd struck the vein with talk of her ship and showing it off. Or at least what remained of it. Sure. It was misleading in some way to mention the Skiptown as a sight-seeing event. The hull was still getting panels shipped in to be replaced. And the engine was in a few pieces given the intricate nature of the Hyperdrive and the Reactor itself.

It was still her ship and still her joy.

Maybe he'd even want to work on it with her. The thought brought a smile as she watched him push on ahead and into the hall, leading him right towards the turbolift.

"Follow me." A shake of her head as she grinned. Maybe this wouldn't be so hard after all. Maybe a little dash of disappointment when they arrived, but nothing she couldn't smooth over hopefully.

"There's a few other things we can do today but we'll make this the first stop." Leading him forward until they reached the turbolift in question, pinging it for the surface as she looked him over.

"You have any hobbies? Any instruments or like, art?" The lift dinged, opening to let them on before closing and making the short trip to the surface before opening once again.

A large quickly assembled shelter on the surface greeted them. Crates were stacked around it with parts waiting for assembly and to be properly put into place. All the crates sealed shut as she pressed her hand into the latch and pulled apart the doors.

They groaned against the small piles of sand before shuddering open, revealing the half repaired ship in question.

"It's a mess right now. Got blown up by some less than kind people. But working on fixing her back up to spec." A wide smile on her face as she turned to Abishai.
