DESCRIPTION

Designed on commission, the Sphynx-class Reconnaissance Corvette is a lightly armed and armored military craft capable of high speed maneuvers and rapid hyperspace transit. Borrowing heavily from the successful technological achievements of the Csilla-class Light Star Destroyer, the Sphynx inherits a comprehensive stealth system and a highly specialized sensor suite. Using the same highly specialized sensor system as the Csilla-class, the Sphynx-class of ships is capable of detecting ships hiding within nebula and other stellar phenomena and is, to a limited extent, even capable of locating hostile stealth ships operating in normal space.

Though this ship is not intended to operate within Nebula as any form of dedicated role, the ship is capable of navigating dangerous nebula and other stellar phenomena with ease.

Designed primarily to operate within and around nebula, (this ship) is equipped with advanced sensors capable of detecting the varying density of the gas and cosmic dust that makes up the nebula around itself. At its most basic level, these sensors look for ships hiding in nebula by looking for the holes or tunnels they make in the radioactive gas and cosmic dust that makes up a nebula itself. While the thick clouds of a nebula block traditional sensors, it is known that these clouds often build up energy charges when particularly turbulent or dense. Likewise, it is known that solid objects moving through the dust and gas of a nebula will cause increased electrical disturbances.

The sensors of (this ship) track areas of high frequency electrical disturbances and scan areas of interest with Electrotelescopes, Dedicated Energy Receptors, Magnetic Signature Sensors, and Doppler Sensor Arrays. A dedicated computer array analyses these sensor readings and looks for doppler effects in energy waves and red/blue shifts in electromagnetic readings that would indicate that an object is moving closer or farther away from the observing ship. Likewise, the ship's sensors look for areas of consistently low radiation and unusual interaction with the ambient electromagnetic fields of the surrounding cosmic matter. These readings are run through pattern recognition software to look for consistent readings (indicating a point of stability among the constantly shifting signatures produced by the nebula) that would indicate either a solid mass is blocking a percentage of background radiation or that a solid metallic object is interacting with the electromagnetic fields being created by the turbulent and electrically charged dust and gas that surrounds it.

When not within a nebula, these advanced sensors still prove highly useful in the detection and tracking of ships. Instead of looking for areas of low radiation and voids in gas clouds, these sensors begin looking for areas of radiation that are greater than background levels. Likewise, instead of looking for areas of low-density gas and cosmic dust, these sensors track the high concentration Ion Trails left in the wake of a passing ship. Due to the high power put into these sensors and their finely calibrated nature, they are often able to detect Ion Trails in spite of Vectrals, Thrust Trace Dampers, and other ion dispersing technologies at close ranges. And while a ship with a military grade cloaking system would be able to mimic its surroundings well enough to avoid direct detection in most cases, the finely tuned sensors of (this ship) are capable of detecting the minuet doppler effects and red/blue shifts in the energy and electromagnetic emissions of ships utilizing sensor masks as they move closer or farther away, even if (this ship) is unable to directly detect the ship itself. Though, (this ship) must first gain a general idea of where to look for the cloaked ship.
The interior of the ship is highly luxurious for a military craft and could easily be compared to that of a yacht. Intended to be operated by a crew of five, the ship is poorly suited to initiate or withstand boarding attempts but leaves plenty of room for the crew to comfortably enjoy themselves during downtime. The galley of the ship is large and comfortable with a well kept pantry, a full bar and lounge, a pool table, and a pair of very comfortable chairs in front of a video-monitor large enough for leisure purposes.

The mechanical components of the ship are top of the line and primarily made of Laminanium, enabling most of the ship's electrical and mechanical systems to repair themselves should they become damaged. This self repair is limited in scope and function, however, as the ship's systems are incapable of repairing complex components that have been heavily damaged.
The ship is designed with a small cargo bay and is capable of carrying a single ground-speeder or a healthy supply of cargo.

Sorry for the delay but after a review of the ship there are a couple of things that'll need to be worked on before passing this through.

First the weaknesses presented do not balance out the strengths.
  • Not having a crystal grav trap is not a weakness, remove this.
  • Not having laminanium is not a weakness, remove this.
Second due to the ship size and energy consumption, having a hard time beliving that this ship is going to run both a disruption field generator and full stealth, so drop stealth completely to put up the disruption field or drop the disruption field and keep stealth up to you.

Finally even with those changes the ship would need to be adjusted to unique given all the strengths provided.

If you would like to maintain a semi-unique rating, please provide more adequate weaknesses.

You know... I had intended the Shields/Cloak/Disruptor to be "only one active at a time", but had totally overlooked specifying that. Gonna get that worked in.

Gonna drop the two weaknesses and see if I can work in a replacement weakness to keep it at Semi-unique.

EDIT:
Edits made. Let me know how it's looking currently.

Only tier 5 and above companies can produce starships with restricted materials at semi-unique production. Further, only tier IV and higher companies or Major factions may produce starships with restricted materials.

Please replace the manufacturer or remove the restricted materials (or get a tier promotion posted, which I can read today while I do the rest of factory modifications and likely approve as long as everything is included that is required).

Huh... Apparently I misunderstood the whole semi-unique / restricted materials thing.

As tempting as it is to shotgun the factory with eight submissions and spam out four low-grade negotiation threads just to tier up an off-brand starship manufacturing company, I think I'll pass on that avenue...

How about... I add a second manufacturer that meets the RM / Company Tier requirements and say that (IC) they supplied the Stygium?
