Sparring, Generally (Daella)

Second Floor Training Room
Jedi Temple, Coruscant

Phil Treymore sat on the bench nearer the door with a warm towel around his neck. Today was open Sparring Tuesday and he was anxious to see who showed up. Rumor had it that a one Master Apparine was on the prowl for victims, and that was just fine for him. The other Apprentices made for such inexperienced partners. He could use a good lesson from a combat veteran. Even if that lesson was a butt kicking.

Tall, dark, and handsome; the thirty-something Apprentice rubbed his hands together with vigor. Ugh. Waiting was not his specialty.

As Daella usually when she stayed at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, she went to the sparring center for training. Some Padawans have begun to wait for her in the sparring center lately - even those not assigned to her for training. Those such as @[member="Tavjurn Phil"] viewed fighting Daella as a test of strength - a good means to learn from experience. Others sought training that was more dedicated.

Once Daella entered the room, she took a moment to scan who had gathered. Several other Padawans had begun spars among themselves. A few others turned their heads once Daella entered the room. She gave no response to them.

Due to the nature of this particular day, Daella noticed an increase in the amount of Jedi within the sparring center compared to other days.

As she normally did though, Daella simply walked to the side of the room. Frequent visitors of the sparring center knew that Daella had to be approached before she agreed to fight anyone else.

Phil had eyes on the prize. He smirked to himself and threw the hot towel against the bench. This was going to be fun. He stood up with a smile and approached the veteran Jedi member. He paused to bow, then raised his chin to introduce himself.

"Knight Apparine. I am Apprentice to Knight Equa Dominator, Phil of Treymore. I would be honored if you would join me in a spar."

He bowed again and took a step back. The Coruscanti was overtly formal in his approach but the smile on his face showed a childish delight. It had been years since had sparred with another Jedi of experience. Far too long in his book. It was time to refocus and train his body in the Force. It was time to remember why a Jedi keeps nothing but a Lightsaber at his side.

When @[member="Tavjurn Phil"] walked up to introduce himself, Daella looked up to the man. She kept a relaxed face as her eyebrows lifted in curiosity - she never met Tavjurn before.

Then, Daella turned to an empty ring. Or, at least a soon to be empty ring. The fighters that occupied it had finished their spar and began to depart.

Turning back to Tavjurn, Daella flatly replied, “Okay.

After saying that, Daella walked to the empty arena. It was a perfect circle roughly 10 meters across outlined with white paint on the floor. The ground seemed to be a hard plastic floor to allow for ease of movement yet still mitigate some pain and damage from a fall. If Tavjurn required one, a rack of training sabers stood just a couple meters outside the ring - yet Daella did not inform him of its existence. Two smaller circles with a diameter of one meter had been drawn just inside the ring. The circles were perfectly lined up and on opposite sides of the ring. They marked where fighters took their spots before a fight.

Once Daella took her spot at one end of the arena, she unclipped her lightsaber hilt and dialed a knob on it. By doing so, Daella’s lightsaber would have similar strength to a training saber and not threaten Tavjurn’s life. She then relaxed her arms - with her lightsaber hilt in her right hand - and waited for Tavjurn to take his spot as well.

For a combat veteran Apparine sure seemed the quiet type. It gave him memories of Vanagor all over again. Though, Dealla didn't look like she weighed 300 pounds of solid muscle. But ya never know. She could have been an HRD in disguise. Ooo. Now that thought brought a playful smile to the Apprentices face. Robot Dealla. Hot.

Phil was dressed in black and had acquired a real lightsaber some time ago. So he dialed down the settings of the blue blade and smirked. It was a single hilt with nothing fancy in the setup. Perfect for a practice session.

Now, the Apprentice had never used a formal sword mat before. The circles were a new concept to him, as sport or competition training was something he had never done. Master Bannon had always preferred live fire exercises in the snow. But Phil could do this. Never hurts to try new things. He nodded to himself and took an opening stance on the small circle opposite Apparine. Form V for today.

Daella could announce or begin at her leisure.

((Sorry for the late reply))

As soon as @[member="Tavjurn Phil"] readied himself, Daella ignited her yellow-bladed lightsaber. The hum seemed different than normal lightsabers due to the adjusted power of the plasma blade.

Taking her stance, Daella kept her feet at shoulder width and nearly straight. Her right foot was forward. She grasped the lightsaber in right hand. The blade pointed toward the ground at an angle and she held the hilt at waist level.

To three strikes,” said Daella - a standard spar.

Go,” she told Tavjurn with a nonchalant tone.

Then, Daella stepped forth. Slowly, she approached Tavjurn. For those that have seen her spar, they would know that she generally maintained a passive style - at least in the beginning. Step by step, Daella closed the gap between her and Tavjurn. She reached a distance where either fighter could dash forward in an attempt to strike.

As she neared Tavjurn, Daella kept a stern, calm look on her face - a serenity that Daella normally bore.

Phil would practice Form V today. So that meant the Apprentice needed to form a rhythm, counter attack often to keep Daella thinking, and attempt to leverage his opponent by using their own balance against them. His posture would be forward centric and his cuts would lean into the blow. His partner seemed rather passive to began so Phil decided it would also be a good idea to try and fake a few openings to attempt to and control when she attacked him, and where.

With this in mind he jumped forward and attempted to bring a few high cuts towards her upper body. Single blade, double grip, quick arcs.

His posture, cuts, and eyes were experienced, and well-executed. Though he didn't mind telegraphing these fast attacks. Phil need not be subtle. Not just yet. First he needed to create a tempo that he could exploit later. His footwork could remain mildly static as he didn't mind holding his ground and slugging it out either. He could be physical today. He could hit hard. However, if his partner proved elusive he most certainly would not give chase either. After all, the lion should not chase the cheetah. He would excel by making her come to him and then leveraging with cunning brawn.
