DESCRIPTION

The Sovereign-class star destroyer is a KDY warship reminiscent of many of the firm’s most iconic capital ships. Like many of those models, the Sovereign-class is intended to form the backbone of the Sith Covenant’s naval doctrine. It is a large, very capable warship, but simple enough for the Covenant to produce in number.

They can be found defending the Deep Core or patrolling the outer reaches of the Tapani Sector, and as the standard vessel in any battle line. Armed with an array of heavy guns and lighter batteries, the Sovereign-class has firepower enough to hold its own against a variety of threats. Each ship is all well-defended by a combination of laser-reflective armor, redundant shield generators, and other countermeasures expected for a ship of its class.

The inclusion of a gravity well projector sets the Sovereign-class apart from its battlefield competitors, giving each star destroyer the means of interdiction. This offers tactical flexibility and makes the Sovereign-class well-suited to antipiracy and planetary blockades. However, the projector draws an extraordinary amount of energy. To both streamline and prevent catastrophic energy shortages, the gravity well projector is hardwired to draw energy directly from the engines, immobilizing the warship when the projector is active. Even then, great energy consumption limits sustained use to around twenty-four hours.

Like many star destroyers, the Sovereign-class is a forward operating base as much as it is a warship. Military-grade sensors and sensitive communication systems allow each destroyer to carry out raids and small-scale invasions on its own. The starship can house up to 11,000 soldiers, accompanying vehicles, and the means necessary to deploy and support them.
