In many ways the Caduceus class Medical Frigate is both an upgrade and downgrade compared to the Nebulon-B Escort Frigates that its design is based off of - with the most noticeable change being that the central shaft of the vessel is upgraded and heavily armored - thus removing the capability that was often taken advantage of when combating the Nebulon-B Frigate (being the destruction of the central joining shaft to split the vessel in half).

Sorenn-Syrush Fleet Ordnance understood that the need of dedicated medical vessels as the continued Galactic Conflict spreads from system to system - likewise with the view of the Commeonr Systems Alliance being purely defensive - it designed these vessels for the sole purpose of rending medical and relief aid to those systems that require such assistance. However - due to this ideal - these vessels lack any kind of armament, as much of the vessel's interior is taken up by the myriad of medical facilities and units with what little space remained being crammed with shield generators.

This means that each Caduceus class Medical Frigate must rely on an escort or multiple escort vessels to keep it safe while it is undergoing its relief and aid missions.
