THE OPEN SKY // PERSONAL HISTORY
DENFRANDI // A LIFE ALOFT
SORAVAR
OF THE GALES // TALORAAN
Soravar of the Gales, better known as Sora, spent his first sixteen years among Taloraan's sky-dwelling tribes. Twelve years later he serves as a Jedi Knight with the Jedi Order of the High Republic, though he still feels most at home beneath open sky. He enjoys meeting people, exploring places he has never seen and finding out how others live. Oboe, his small sleft-chuff companion, is rarely far away.
SORAVAR // DENFRANDI JEDI KNIGHT
01
Appearance
At 6 feet 1 inch (185 cm) and 176 pounds (80 kg), Sora has the lean, hard-muscled build of a lifelong climber. Years spent hauling lines, swinging between gondolas and riding through Taloraan's upper winds have left him strong without much bulk. His skin is tanned, his eyes a clear blue, and his sandy-blond hair falls to his shoulders, usually in some state of disarray.
He favours the clothes he grew up wearing: layered cream-coloured fabric, a weathered blue scarf, wrapped forearms, hard-wearing boots and leather straps securing his gear. Grappling hooks and rope remain part of his usual equipment. His lightsaber has a sky-blue blade and is generally carried at his side. He has never seen much reason to trade the practical clothing of the Gales for formal Jedi robes.

Temperament & Beliefs
Sora is sociable, easy to approach and genuinely interested in people. He will happily spend an afternoon listening to someone explain an unfamiliar trade, custom or place, and is just as willing to ask questions when he knows very little about a subject. He likes company, conversation and doing things for himself instead of only hearing them described. Curiosity sometimes takes him into situations he might have considered more carefully if he had stopped to think.
He grew up learning to read the winds and practising the Blind Sail, long before he knew what the Jedi meant by the Force. The True Wind remains his natural way of making sense of it. He is especially attentive to the Living Force, taking an interest in the immediate world around him rather than spending much time worrying about distant possibilities. His Jedi education broadened his understanding without displacing the traditions in which he was raised.
He has almost no instinctive fear of heights, sudden drops or fierce winds. He is capable of taking risks that would terrify most people and can misjudge how much danger he is actually in. Enclosed spaces are another matter. Cramped speeders, sealed lifts and windowless rooms put him on edge, particularly if he cannot see a way out. He can keep himself under control for a while, but being trapped brings him close to panic. Jedi discipline has helped him live with the fear, not cured it.
THE SMALL ONE AMONG THE GIANTS
Oboe
SORA'S YOUNG SLEFT-CHUFF COMPANION
Oboe was born among the sleft-chuffs kept by the Gales when Sora was about eight. Sora helped care for the little creature, who soon developed the habit of following him from one gondola to another. The two grew up together. Oboe remains unusually small beside the immense adults of his species, with a round, lightly mottled body, wide-set eyes, small fins and tentacles beneath him. When he inflates himself to float, he generally settles somewhere near Sora's shoulder.
Their attachment caused considerable trouble when Sora left Taloraan to join the Jedi at sixteen. Oboe was meant to stay with the flotilla, but followed the departing ship into the upper atmosphere. The Jedi pilot had to bring the vessel back down before the little sleft-chuff climbed high enough to put himself in danger. After that, keeping him behind was no longer seriously considered. He accompanied Sora to the Academy and has travelled with him ever since.

History
Soravar was born among the Gales, one of the Denfrandi tribes that travel Taloraan's powerful wind belts. He grew up aboard their flotillas, surrounded by family homes, workshops, gathering decks and the enormous sleft-chuffs that carried them. Life was communal and busy. Sora learned to work ropes and harnesses, keep his footing on moving decks, lend a hand with ordinary repairs and cross between gondolas without thinking twice about the clouds below. Music, visitors and long conversations were everyday parts of home.
The Gales also had a strong tradition of aerial defence. Their fleft-wauf riders caught Sora's attention early, and he spent much of his adolescence learning to ride and handle the winged creatures. By sixteen he was a capable young rider, with the makings of a much better one if he had remained among his people. He also showed an unusual awareness through the Blind Sail, sensing movements and danger that could not always be explained by his knowledge of the weather.
A visiting Jedi recognised that sensitivity as a connection to the Force and offered him the opportunity to train. Sora was sixteen when he left Taloraan, old enough to have grown up thoroughly Denfrandi and young enough to want to see what lay beyond his homeworld. He entered the Jedi Academy with Oboe in tow, a consequence of the creature's refusal to let the departing starship leave him behind.
Academy life was an adjustment. Sora was already confident in the open air, comfortable with physical challenges and accustomed to working alongside people of all ages. He found the enclosed training rooms and long journeys aboard starships considerably less pleasant. His instructors worked with the instincts he had brought from Taloraan, giving them the discipline and wider understanding expected of a Jedi. He spent ten years as a Padawan, studying the Force, lightsaber combat and the responsibilities of helping people beyond his own tribe.
Sora became a Jedi Knight at twenty-six. Now, he serves with the Jedi Order in the High Republic, still relatively new to working without the regular guidance of a Master. He takes opportunities to travel, meet unfamiliar communities and put his training to practical use. He keeps in touch with the Gales and returns to Taloraan when circumstances allow. His old riding skills have suffered from years away from the flotillas, though he remains fond of the creatures and the people who taught him. Oboe continues to accompany him, just as he did at the Academy.

Skills & Possessions
Sora is an excellent climber, comfortable on narrow platforms, suspended lines and moving structures even in difficult winds. His Denfrandi physiology gives him exceptional endurance, quick recovery and an innate awareness of movement in the air. He also handles high acceleration, sudden pressure changes and severe cold far better than an ordinary Human, with increased resistance to environmental radiation. He can still ride a fleft-wauf, though ten years away from regular practice have left him well behind the riders who stayed among the Gales.
In lightsaber combat he favours the mobility of Form IV, Ataru, drawing upon his climbing background, balance and comfort moving through open space. His Force training places particular emphasis on sensing his immediate surroundings and recognising danger as it develops, building on the Blind Sail he learned as a child. He is competent with ordinary Jedi telekinesis and using the Force to enhance his movement, without unusual mastery over weather or limitless foresight.
His possessions include a lightsaber with a sky-blue blade, Denfrandi windwraps, climbing harnesses, rope, grappling equipment and the usual supplies needed for travel. Oboe tends to travel alongside him rather than in a carrier, and is considerably less willing to be left behind than any piece of equipment.
