PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS

Ever the eager learner and having always possessed a passion for acquiring knowledge, Solomon is always collecting bits of knowledge to add to his growing library. He has a quick and calculating mind and excels at problem-solving. He enjoys piecing together information and learning new skills. He is ambitious and generous in giving his time to help others if they prove to need help, though this often comes with the caveat that they must be willing to help themselves. A warrior in name and career, Solomon tends to leave the rough exterior on the field and fights with ferocity while on it. Battles are often hard-won, whether they be physical or intellectual. Strength is measured by one’s mental capabilities, social interactions, and physical prowess. He has some regrets in never truly following his passion for exploring the depths of the knowledge available to him and wishes secretly that things would have worked out differently.

  • Determination can leave him dead set on his goals, with a stubborn refusal to change course
  • Has a tendency to spread himself too thin in an attempt to help others

HISTORY

Solomon was born into a nomadic tribe in the harsh deserts of the Mid Rim world of Thelea. From a young age, he showed a keen intellect and a thirst for knowledge. His tribe's elders, alongside his parents, taught him everything they knew about the desert, from how to survive its harsh conditions to the stories of its ancient gods and heroes. He kept meticulous writings on these topics, eventually saving them in a bound book which he kept with his personal belongings.

Solomon also excelled in the physical arts. He was a natural athlete, and he quickly became one of the more decorated warriors in his tribe. He fought alongside his fellow tribesmen in many battles against rival tribes and bandits, leading the charge at times. Outside of training and field operations he was one of the mentors for the aspiring warriors of the tribe, passing down the knowledge that’d been given to him. He specialized in close-quarter combat and in administering some of their rites of passage. There was an ever-present, underlying tension between the Thealean and his commanding officers. He wasn’t exactly favored, as far as they were concerned. There were plenty of other, more seasoned warriors that deserved the opportunities that he was granted based on more accrued merit than he’d accumulated in his relatively short career as a warrior.

One day, while out hunting, Solomon's party was ambushed by a group of slavers. The warrior fought bravely, but was outnumbered and captured alongside the younger members that volunteered to join him on the hunt. He was taken to the capital city of Kesh, where he was sold as a gladiator. He was horrified by his new life, he had so many regrets. Why didn’t he see it coming? Why couldn’t he protect those that relied on him for leadership and guidance? Life or death was a thin line to walk on the desert world, caution was never to be thrown to the wind. Yet, somehow, he’d been caught off guard. He would never learn of the betrayal of the tribe’s acclaimed warriors who were responsible for bribing the slavers with fighters for show in exchange for a cessation of capturing members of their tribe for a time. They, of course, would claim ignorance to the elders and the mourning families. Solomon quickly realized that they all needed to adapt if they were to survive and escape with their lives. He trained hard and continued to train those who were with him on that day when they weren’t locked up or dealing with sly sponsors that wanted as many credits as possible from their work.

Solomon quickly became one of the most popular gladiators in Kesh, earning the moniker of The Asp for the quick manner in which he typically ended bouts. He was known for his skill, courage, and fierce determination. But despite his success and renowned in the capital, the goal posts were always moved even as those who were captured with him were released. There were always excuses as to why he hadn’t quite earned his freedom yet. Solomon’s only solace was his love of learning and the hope that he could one day leave the forsaken arena behind once and for all. He often used his earnings to buy books and scrolls, and he spent what free time he had studying everything he could about the world beyond the arena walls.

Suddenly, Solomon was no longer on Thelea. He wasn’t sure where he was or how he got there. A Voice called out to him to break free. He followed it, intrigued by the strength it granted him, wondering where it would lead if anywhere at all…
