"We should be out there, looking for him," the Padawan said with a frustrated sigh as she turned away from the cave entrance and looked at her Master, who had been busy setting up a small camp for them. The two had been tracking a Sith Beast Lord for days through the New Cov jungles after reports came in about a dark figure twisting the already dangerous wildlife into even more brutal monsters. But somehow, the man always seemed to remain ahead of them.

"Patience, Valery. You know how dangerous these jungles are. We will wait for this storm to pass and get some sleep in the meantime." the old Jedi Master said as he made himself comfortable near the fire he had started.

"But Master, he's so close and you know he's been trying to avoid us for days! We can take him together,
" she said with that familiar, fiery determination in her eyes. It didn't matter that they were tracking a dangerous Sith Lord; she was always up for the challenge and she could feel him out there. He was so terribly close and any minute wasted would only bring more suffering to the animals, right?

"No, it's too dangerous." the Master said as he looked at the young woman by the cave entrance, his tone sterner this time to make it clear she wasn't going anywhere. "Lay down and get some sleep; we'll head out in the morning."

A defeated sigh followed from Valery, who nodded her head and muttered a quick "Yes, Master." before making herself as comfortable as she could within her bedroll. But no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't shake the feeling that she should be out there. The idea of letting the Sith potentially get away was almost infuriating, and it made it impossible to sleep. So rather than closing her eyes for the night, she kept herself awake and waited. Only when her Master finally fell asleep about an hour later, Valery carefully and quietly crawled out of her bedroll, clipped her lightsaber back to her belt, and moved over to the entrance of the cave.

I can do this... I'm the best duelist in the Enclave and this Sith has only been running...

She took a deep breath and right as a flash of lightning illuminated the night sky, Valery stepped out into the heavy rain and began her search alone.

"M-Master?"

The shivering young woman asked as she stood alone within the dark jungle. The large trees around her towered over the Padawan, casting an almost eternal shadow on the ground beneath with only the light of the full moon shining through their leaves. With no response to the question she asked, Valery slowly moved around again, no longer sure about where she had to go. The feeling of the Sith Lord she had tried to follow felt much fainter, and it was no longer the sole source of darkness within the jungle.

"Master, is that you?"

She asked again with a frightened tone, as her orange eyes frantically looked around the jungle, trying to find whatever was causing small branches around her to snap. But these sounds in the dark were quickly reduced to background noise as streams of pure white crackled through the moonlit sky, its light revealing moving figures in the shadows that sent a feeling of terror and shock through her spine.

Nothing remained of her earlier confidence or her fiery spirit in the face of danger. She was just a scared girl, alone in a jungle full of deadly fauna, flora, and now Sith as well.

Silence followed the sky splitting apart but it did little to calm the mind of the Padawan, who stood still and shivered from both the cold rain and fear of what she had gotten herself into with her stubbornness and arrogance. Her heart was racing, her breathing heavy and her mind shaken by the thoughts that passed through her mind.

Then, as her gaze extended into the jungle again, her eyes would widen and for a brief moment, she held her breath completely as intense shock paralyzed her. From the darkness around her, three pairs of bright yellow eyes slowly stepped out towards her, like predators ready to jump their prey.

A blue blade of plasma flashed into existence between the girl's pounding chest and the beasts moments later but the light did not affect them, nor did it shake their resolve. These weren't normal predators one could scare away — they were twisted and commanded by something so dark that nothing could ever frighten them again.

"S-stay back..." Valery called out while she swept around the blue blade to keep them away. But while the beasts briefly stopped, danger still lingered in the air.

Finally, after the short pause in their approach, the beasts jumped out at her from the darkness, their mouths wide open and their razor-sharp teeth on display, ready to tear their way through flesh and bone. Valery tried to scream as loud as she could but it was in vain, as her cries for help were lost beneath the rolling thunder up above.
