Description: The Recon, Infiltration, and other Covert Ops Dog, or R.I.C.O. Dog as it would soon be called, was designed with the military and security force teams in mind. With advanced senses such as sight, hearing, and smell, it was the ideal partner for armed forces needing an edge, but not wanting to lug around a ton of extra equipment.

It's bulbous eyes are are equipped with radiation scanning/detection capability. Thus making it very difficult for anything to sneak by this droids line of sight. It's advanced sonic receivers allow it to pick up the tiniest out of place sounds or signals. And its sense of smell make it the perfect candidate for tracking, bomb/drug detection, and a host of other things.

Although technically not armed, it does have a few features that should make any enemy wary. The razor sharp retractable claws will make anyone think twice about trying to go a couple rounds with it. Its teeth are not rounded like normal K-9 teeth. Instead they are triangular like an old world bayonet. The reason is, if this thing needs to use its teeth, diplomacy has failed. The triangular shape of the puncture holes that a target would receive are extremely difficult to stitch back together as apposed to a standard slash. Thus there is a small, but still greater chance the enemy will bleed out if they do manage to get away. With set of jaws that have a bite force of 3700 lbf or 16,000 N (the biting force of a salt water crocodile, military model), it is unlikely the target will get away. The civilian model has a significantly weaker bite at 1,000 lbf. The metallic teeth also sport another trick. They act as a stun gun would. So if the crushing force of the teeth and jaws don't bring a target down, the stunning sensation of 50,000 volts coursing through their body sure will. Though the fact that this voltage is set to 4 ma means that the target will never get fried. merely stunned into submission.

The final offensive/defensive weapon in this units arsenal is a sonic rifle "bark". Using ultrasonic frequencies, R.I.C.O. is able to emit a focused beam on a person, or group of people. The effects can be as mild as an annoying ringing sensation in the ears, to a sudden nauseous feeling, all the way up to death if the frequency is high enough. Though this feature only goes up to non-lethal levels for the civilian models. To ensure the units own hearing doesn't get damaged, we also installed a fail safe system where the sonic receptors shut off for just a split second while the "bark" is being used. It then immediately turns back on so it can continue to hear.

Speaking of the civilian model. For those wishing a more lifelike unit. The customer can request synthskin and fur be added to their unit to make it the perfect family pet. Fur color is left up to the customer. A holo of what you'd like is recommended when requesting more specialized fur styles.

To allow for better agility, R.I.C.O. is lightly armored. However, if the customer wishes. We also have a fitted armor "jacket" that can slip over either the civilian or military model as an upgrade. It also has a lightweight interior lining making it airtight. The "pads" on its feet are also magnetic. Thus allowing it to walk aboard a starship that has lost his artificial gravity. Though only at a walking pace as it would need to have paws on the floor at all times.

Military model - Comes as you see in the picture. Though it can be ordered with extra padding, synthskin, and fur to create a lifelike dog. The sonic rifle "bark" has max setting capable of lethal shots. The bite force is maxed out at 3,700 lbf. (The bite force of a salt water crocodile)

Civilian model - Can be ordered with extra padding, synthskin, and fur to create a lifelike dog. The sonic rifle "bark" has a max setting of stun. The most severe effects of which would be an almost instantaneous feeling of nausea from the target. The crushing power of its bite is also tone down to 1,000 lbf. as apposed to the 3,700 lbf of the military model.

Before I get down to the nitty-gritty stuff, I am going to ask that you elaborate on the following:
  • Pressure of the bite (kilogram of pressure)
  • How thick is the durasteel coating of the droid's body? This is used to measure the general durability of the droid, such as resistance to blasters - or lightsabers as far as the time it would take for a saber to fully cut through it.
  • How the droid's superior sense of smell is being handled/done, this needs to be rather elaborate as most droids are generally incapable of picking up scent. (I am using the 4th degree droids as my basis for this, and have not found any mention of it in the Star Wars: The New Essential Guide to Droids by Daniel Wallace)
  • What is the ampage on the electricity that is exerted through the teeth?
  • How/Why is the droid capable of both extremely sensitive hearing, while also capable of producing sonic waves? The question on this is more of: Why use both features, and how does this not damage the droid due to the increased sound receptors picking up the sound generated from the dog.
I also need the following changed prior to going in to the development thread portion of this:
  • Sound-weapon technology is not identical in the star wars universe as it would be in real life, and thus LRAD equipment works entirely different in real life than the equivalent technology does in star wars. LRAD also does not function in the way you described (beyond the nausea and pain). Please remove this and replace it with something more in-line with Star Wars technology. Here is a link to the equivalent technology that you should find suitable.
Suggestions prior to moving toward development thread requirements and such:
  • Replace vision enhancements with radiation detection/scanning, this would accomplish everything you are looking to accomplish and more without relying on three different settings. (You also don't run the risk of permanently damaging the droid's vision with a burst of light in the dark - Night Vision causes ultra-sensitivity when exposed to regular sun-light, and a single bright light can cause eye damage and blindness in a human, and potentially damage the photoreceptors in the droid's "eyes".)

Links for current research:

Bite pressure added
Vision changed to recommended (nice idea btw, thanks)
Weight changed (derp gotten to used to height and length)
Ampere rating added (I knew about the volts not being the issue, but had no idea what amperage to put it at. So again thanks for the link)

Sonic weapons don't emit sound everywhere. It is a very focused beam. That's why even in the games you can fire one without a helmet or any protection of any kind. However, just for arguments sake, I went ahead and explained further how it for sure doesn't get affected. Still thanks for the link. It was actually more effective than my Lrad system, and far more compact and standard. :)

The droid is lightly armored. Think B-1 battle droid. I went ahead and added a small paragraph about being able to purchase a armor "jacket" to give it extra protection.

As for the smell. I have no idea how to describe how it works. Does it really matter? I only ask because I highly doubt anyone is going to question how the droid smells. lol I know the tech exists though. Think about it. How would an HRD be able to smell? Or one of those chef droids? Its also technology that exists today. But again, I don't know how it works.

Edit:........Erm...Ok. Somehow, the ton of changes I did this morning didn't take.... >.< That's annoying.

Ok. NOW it's updfted. Sorry. I still don't know what happened with my earlier updates.

You can disregard my request on the subject of scent.

Approval Without Development Thread
  • Lessen the pressure of the bite considerably (the double whammy of that much pressure and the electric shock that the bite delivers warrants this request).
  • Choose between the sonic weaponry or the stun effect.
If sonic weaponry defer to approval with development thread.
Approval With Development Thread
  • Include a 10 post development thread involving the testing of the proper amperage, voltage, and pressure applied as to not cause too much stress on the droid's functions.
  • Include a 10 post development thread, or an added 5 posts if you included the previously mentioned thread, on the method of sonic weaponry that you are using in the form of testing and/or research, you can focus this on the fail safe mentioned in the description.
Suggestions
  • Make a clear split in the description between what the civilian/pet model is versus the military grade, such as the lack of x y and z and so on. I don't think a civilian is looking for a family pet equipped with a Sonic bark.

Also, one last question, is this going to receive some financial assistance from STI? If not, I will need this lowered to minor production as per the tier of this company.

Production changed to Minor. Though I'm now concerned. This is not that big of a droid. Nor is it high tech or exotic. The requirement to get to tier 3 are to create 3 mass produced items. Are you saying I can't create mass produced items without the financial aid of a second company?

Suggestion entered. A definite distinction has been added at the bottom to show the differences between the civilian and military models. I know quite a few civilians that would go crazy over a dog that has a sonic rifle "bark". lol I think you underestimate the redneck side of people. hahaha

I'm going to try and work on that dev thread. But, although I believe I can make it to 15 eventually. I do request only 10 posts actually be required to get what I want, considering all of the tech on this droid is in all honesty, archaic. Having been around since the Old Republic.
