So two mutes walk into a forest...

Silence coated the ground and canopy of Endor, the forest moon. Everything seemed to stand still, even time itself. However, someone was watching. Waiting. More like two someones. Two pairs of eyes peeked out from the darkness of a bush, one set blue, the other more slanted and golden. A deer wandered into the clearing, oblivious to it's watchers. Suddenly, a wild boy and wolf sprang forth from the brush, startling the deer, and it began to run away. Remus ran alongside his brother, Cainis, both racing each other to keep up with the prey. The hunt was on.

Katar stood motionless for what seemed like forever. Her eyes were bright, tense, alert. Every muscle in her body tingled, waiting to move. The last time she had been to the Shadowlands of Kashyyk was when she was three. But, she had come back on numerous occasions in her nightmares. She could still see her old master once he discovered that she had freed the animals he had caged. She could still feel the open wounds and the bruises as he beat her. For several weeks, Katar had been reliving her life there in her dreams. She had finally decided to come back, in a sense. It was useless to run from fear. Facing it wasn't easy, but it was better than never sleeping again. And though Endor wasn't quite Kashyyk, it was similar enough to give her the same feeling of uneasiness. So, here Katar stood, facing a forest similar to the one she feared most. Without a second thought, Katar began running. She let her fear melt away, replacing it with the raw majesty of the wood. She let her senses loose. They allowed her to feel everything, see everything, hear everything, smell everything. Her instincts grew sharper with each stride.

A light smile formed on Remus's face as he drew closer to his prey. Cainis had made the last three kills. This kill would be his, and he would show his brother that he was in fact worthy of his wolf skills. Then, something caught his attention. Stopping mid-stride, he brought his nose up to sniff the air. Something else was close by. A little farther ahead, Cainis tackled the deer and sunk his teeth into it, killing it instantly. However, the boy was preoccupied in finding the source of the new scent. What was it?

Katar ran faster, sinking further into her instincts. That was when she realized that something was following her. She glanced behind her, just as a Boar-wolf tackled her. They rolled into a small clearing, clawing and biting each other. Katar was thrown backward, but she used her claws to keep herself grounded. She met the Boar-wolf in the eyes, growling. She locked her gaze with it for several minutes, not moving a muscle. Then, the Boar-wolf made a kind of grunt and sat on its rump. Katar went up to it and stroked its neck. It let her, panting a bit.

Noticing his brother's pause, Cainis looked back and sniffed as well. He smelled not only another being, but another member of his race. Taking off into a sprint, he dashed to the pair as fast as he could in anxiety. Remus ran too, following his brother, but the wolf would make it a full two minutes before him.

Katar and the Boar-wolf sat together in the clearing, just relaxing now. It had warmed up to her, and was laying next to her as she stroked it's head. Then, a third wolf appeared. Katar looked over at it, the wolf next to her doing the same. Another wolf? Maybe there was a pack nearby?

Minutes later, Remus arrived, stopping just behind his brother. The wolf's interest seemed to be in that of a little girl around the boy's own age, petting another wolf. The closeness of the two led Remus to believe that she and the other shared the same bond as himself and Cainis. Acting upon this, he smiled and walked forward, letting out a small series of yelps and howls.

Katar stared strangely at the boy. He appeared to e trying to tell her something, but she couldn't tell what that was. She tilted her head, absorbed in her curiosity. He appeared to be slightly younger than her, but just as 'wild' as she was. Cautiously, she walked over to him, smelling in his scent. Mmmm...... nothing but forest. Green leaves and soil and fur and bark. It was a good scent to have.

As the girl walked over to sniff him, Remus sniffed her back with a small smile. She smelled interesting, Ike forest but there was something else. Something he couldn't quite place. Cocking his head to the side at this, he pondered the new smell. Was she possibly from another wolf pack? Another tribe? Maybe that explained the weird smell. If not, he had no idea how to describe it. Nevertheless, he continued to examine her, her tiny sharp claws and her luminescent green eyes mostly. He was almost errands fixed by the eyes for a few seconds, the brilliance of them contrasting with the azure calmness of his own. This was an interesting pup.

Katar blinked a few times as the boy continued to stare at her eyes. He seemed hypnotized by them somehow. She looked behind the boy, at his wolf friend. The wolf was obviously a bit confused. She was probably the first human it had seen besides the boy. Katar gently reached out a hand to the wolf. It backed even further behind the boy and gave a nervous growl. She got down on her knees, letting a sense of soothing come from her. She tilted her head slightly, letting the wolf know that she wouldn't hurt it. Cautiously, she reached out again, this time gently stroking its head.

What the girl was doing really surprised Remus, and he took a step back. Cainis hardly trusted anyone but him, but she had managed to calm him somehow. Looking to his brother, his eyes flashed in anger, and he moved forward to slap her hand away. He didn't like that she could become so close so quickly, as it made him feel uncomfortable. Looking at the strange girl, he bared his teeth a little.

Katar's eyes flashed to the boy as he slapped her hand away. The Boar-wolf she had met before growled at him from a ways away, thinking that the boy was going to hurt her. Even the wolf in front of her eyed the boy warily. Katar studied the boy's expression. He was jealous. But, of what? Well, he was obviously close to the wolf she had just petted. Perhaps he didn't want to share its affection with anyone else. She stood up again, and looked at him apologetically. She didn't want to steal away a friend.

Looking between Cainis and the girl, Remus sighed and dropped his head. He didn't want to be selfish, and the look she have him just broke into his soul. Looking back up, he spoke two syllables, while pointing to himself. "Re-mus." That was the extent of his speech, as he had been born with it, knowing it from birth. Looking at the girl anxiously, he waited for her name.

Katar looked slightly confused. Re Mus? What was that? Then she noticed he was pointing at himself. Oh, that's his name. Hmmm..... How to tell him hers....... She looked around. Squatting to the ground, she used a claw to scratch her name. She pointed at herself, looking up at Remus. What she did next was slightly difficult for her. She formed her mouth awkwardly, making a sort of clicking sound and a growl of some kind. The end result was something like "Kt-arr".

As the girl stumbled upon her name, Remus nodded and tried to repeat it. "Ka....tar? Kataar. Katar." He said the name per and over until he finally got it right. Smiling once he did, he moved a little closer to her. "Katar, Remus", he said pointing to her then himself, respectively. He'd made a new friend.

Katar nodded eagerly when he said her name right. Good, he understood her. A small smile came to her lips. It was nice to meet someone new every now and then. She took his wrist and led him over to her new Boar-wolf friend. The wold looked at him suspiciously. It slowly sniffed his hand. Seeing nothing wrong with Remus, the wolf relaxed and lowered its head, allowing him to pet it.
